They made Layla extremely pacifist. That's why she didn't do jacksht with her powers up until near the end. Out of everyone in the cast, her and Warren had the strongest powers.

Plant powers have insane possibilities and on one hand its kind of sad she doesn't tap into their full potential, but on the other hand I think thats the difference between someone whos peaceful and somoene whos harmless and giving her insanely powerful abilities drive home that she chooses not to fight

One thing I did appreciate about this movie is that, while it becomes a moot point, once Will’s parents know that he doesn’t have powers the two of them talk to each other over it. Will’s Dad realizes that, although disappointed, he doesn’t love his son any less. And as for the family business “He can always go into real-estate!”

one thing about this movie that nobody talks about- ethan (the kid who can turn into a puddle) is actually ridiculously op??? by the end of the movie, he has learned how to move as a puddle *vertically*, that means he can move in any direction in 3d space. hes basically a waterbender who uses himself as water
he is shown to be especially invincible when in puddle form, as someone slipping on him causes him no pain or damage of any kind, he can switch forms instantaneously and even choose his position when he transforms back (shown once again by the end, he went from puddle to hanging off the stalls unless he turned into a puddle like that he chose to reform hanging that way) its implied he can move throughout water without harm (once again that bathroom scene) like the final fight showed just how incredibly powerful ethan can be if he just uses his ability creativity. he has dodged attacks with ease, he can be used to basically cc enemies by making them slip, and with his ability to move vertically as a puddle his skill ceiling reached the damn moon. he could, in theory, wrap himself around the heads of enemies to literally suffocate them. he could force himself down their throat and turn back to human, blowing them up from the inside. the possibilities are endless
    justice for my boy ethan

One thing that really bothered me about this movie was that for the second half we’re supposed to believe that Will becomes a jerk after his powers kick in. However, Will never actually does anything mean to his friends or anyone, he joins the friend groups of the Gwen and the “hero’s table” and forgets his date with Layla, but aside from that he seems kind of passive. Gwen was the real jerk, isolating Will from his sidekicks in some boarder line abusive tactics. There is this one scene where Will goes to great his sidekick friends and Gwen just yanks him away like that is really messed up when your think about. Also, knowing that Gwen is technically an adult manipulating a high school boy and by extension his friends their interactions come off as extra creepy.

Will we ever get to see Baron Battle?
For that matter, what's the full story on the other villains Steve took trophies from?
Did Gwen have genuine feelings for Will? If she did, is this heartwarming or incredibly squicky?
Did Warren have genuine feelings for Layla?

I definitely remember this movie because for some reason every substitute teacher without a lesson plan I had in middle and high school thought that they could "introduce" us to this movie, not realizing that we had already been shown it by every other teacher lmao. It's a good movie but god I got so sick of it. (Shoutout to the teacher who played The Princess Bride instead - now there's a movie I'll _never_ get sick of)

Sky High is amazing for a 2005 superhero parody movie. It has some funny lines and scenes, it's action packed as something constantly happens and there are no boring scenes. It teachers some good lessons as wel.. It's not a cinematic masterpiece but you will definitely have fun with it. I've seen it like a 100 times when I was a kid. Also it's a kids movie and don't forget that. That's why it can be goofy a lot of the times. The only thing I dislike is the cliche of making gym teachers assholes. In my experience and from my other friends experiences gym teachers were always the best and the coolest ones actually.

It's actually one of the best superhero parody (?) Movie ever. Even as actual super hero movie it's very good. The drama is good, the comedy is good, the story is good. And if i don't mistaken, the plant lady didn't show her power that's why she's in sidekick class. It's so good to show her character that didn't like the class different and her character that didn't want the fame. And it shows how she love the protagonist at the same time. It's wonderful movie. Much better than the superhero movie we got now days

One of the main points with Layla was that she was super powerful. The movie acknowledges it, Layla just refused to 'show off' during gym so she got placed in sidekick class. Honestly, her refusing to show her powers to the coach was kinda silly but also 100% a hill that a fourteen-year-old girl would die on so it tracks.

There's another movie that actually predates this one, also from Disney with the exact same plot. "Up, Up, and Away" also about a kid who is the son of two famous super heroes who doesn't actually have any powers of his own. The difference with that movie is he also has super hero grandparents that appear in the movie, an older brother with super powers, some how no one in the family have the same or even remotely similar powers, and there's actually a deadline that if he doesn't develope any powers before his 13th birthday he never will have any powers.
