I own the numark mixtrack platinum fx and this mixer is practically the same thing... mixer wise. I picked this up for my turntables today and if it’s anything like the numark controller mixer, this thing will be a treat.
For under 500 bucks this mixer is the best solution if you are in the market for a budget friendly mixer with serato functionality. I own one and I' m very happy with it.
@@digitaldjtips Yeah! What is really annoying though is the fact that the pads just light up in red colour. I colour code my cue points in Serato DJ and would have loved that those are reflected on the mixer. Soledered line-faders (so, non replacable) are a bummer, too.
Thank you for this detailed review, it just made me think of a better workflow with this mixer! MIDI remap the loop mode since the encoder loop is enabled anyway which make it redundant. For my setup, I’m thinking of remapping the right deck’s pad’s to cue 5-8 for deck 1, and then put deck 2’s cue 1-8 on the loop mode. I think this would be great for 1deck users since you will rarely use cue points anyway on your non dominant deck.

I have a competition coming up, and for some reason I can hear the DVS tone through my mixer, it does not come out the master, though the sound is concerning. Only one channel, nothing has changed, any ideas on what I have done?
mic is probably picking up the tone coming from the needle. If you listen closely to any record play and vinyl, you can hear the music coming from the needle when playing - especially for high output needles like M44-7s
I have used a controller in a month now (I practiced with mouse and keyboard). Do you recommend any beginner-CDJ’s to use with this or the Numark M101/M2?
@Digital DJ Tips, hey man I've had the Numark Scratch Mixer for couple months now. I really enjoy it but I'm always left wanting more like the DJM-S9. The 4 pads are just not enough and red is soooo boring after a while. However, i LOVE the paddle toggles, I'm very glad they included these because effects is something I always use. What's really strange is these scratch mixers were so difficult to get in the beginning and sometimes I feel like I wasted 500 because I could have used money for something like the S9 or 72.
Compared to something like the DJM-250mkii it's nice to see some performance pads. Wish Pioneer would market something similar... something like the excellent Traktor Z2.
A version of this mixer with a color fx and beat fx section instead of the scratch style fx would be an industry shatterer for the entry level mixer range... Numark please

Martin, I owned the djm 250mk2. And I like the numark scratch alot better. More features than the pioneer 250mk2 and DjmS3. Which both s3 and Numark Scratch have built in Serato. As for the 250mk2 has a built-in Rekordbox soundcard. The s3 and Numark scratch are the same price. Numark has more features then the s3.
Thanks guys, excellent review! I just bought this mixer with only a couple hours of research before buying, normally I spend months, and you've helped reassure me I've made the right choice! I had the S11 in my sights but I have never used serato before so wanted to start with something a little more simpler to see if I even like it. Only thing I need now is a laptop just for serato. It's a bit off point but what specs are the minimum required for serato and my Numark scratch mixer to work without any hindrance? Big love guys

It seems like many reviews on this don't mention the volume of the microphone. I've found that no matter how high the microphone level is very low, and some others have mentioned this. Did you guys have any issues with the microphone levels?

@@digitaldjtips Thanks. I was about to buy this mixer and the mwm Phase. Nobody explains exactly that you need this and only this when using old school turntables. (apart from having the Serato vinyl) It should be so simple but as a beginner to "serato" I didn't know what was needed to go digital and keeping my turntables. Theres a lot of new terminology and the Numark or Serato website doesn't make it exactly clear that this is all you need if you have turntables. It should be a big selling point to market to old school vinyl DJs. Then they should build on that by showing all the new stuff you can do while still using your turntables. I've been mixing vinyl on 1210s since 1996. I skipped the whole CD deck era because the decks were dog crap through the 90s/early 2000s, and paying 2k for a CDJ scratch set up didn't float my boat during the mid 2000s. In 2020 the mwm Phase Essential peaked my interest in going digital from watching Jazzy Jeff live streams and how fluid it looked compared to CDJ's. Its an evolution, not a step back then a couple of shuffles to catch up. Its a revolution. If this mixer can let me go digital and keep my 1210s without mwm Phase Essential or denon dj ds1 it's pretty amazing.
Looks like a great Serato battle mixer for the budget price of $500! Of course there’s the cream of the crop mixers from Rane, Pioneer & ReLoop, awesome mixers but also at 2-4 times the price of this mixer. I’m considering getting this dope mixer but I’m wondering is there a way to access cue points 5-8 with those 4 pads, is there a button you can click on so you can switch from cue points 1-4 to 5-8? I really hope there is a way to do that because I got used to adding up to 8 cue points on some tracks. And before people start saying 4 cue points is more than enough when doing regular mixes and that back in the day you didn’t even have one cue point, that’s all true BUT when cutting & scratching tracks it’s really dope having up to 8 cue points for cuing specific parts of a track to cut & scratch, specially classic funk breakbeats and scratch sound effect tracks. If this cool mixer has access to all 8 cue points then I’m getting it! 😊

Not only does that controller have cool mini motorized platters but it's also DVS ready so I would be able to hook up my turntables to it! I've been having the idea for a while of a DJ controller with DVS and only one of my Technics turntables to the left of it since I mainly scratch on the left turntable anyways. So I would mainly use the controller with Serato but also sometimes use the one turntable on the left to scratch, play or sample some of my old vinyl. :)

@@digitaldjtips Not stand-alone, but I think you can as long as you are using the "through" function on a connected laptop running serato... will confirm when I set up my new mixer, but that's the way it has worked for me with previous mixers when I've been using serato and a Denon serato box connecting the two...
Solid digital mixer from Numark I've mixed on this and scratched it's actually very good Great for all DJ world's But it's worth pointing out it's a software based DJ digital mixer Effects and features You have basically underneath that a standard but solid 2 channel DJ mixer with LPF and EQ, inno fader mini ( I thought it was same fader on Akai Amx) It reminds of Traktor Z2 mixer bit , I'm looking fwd to the new version mk2 of this when native instruments ever announce it if ever? Might not ever happen But if you have option to buy this or the Traktor Z2 , I'm saying Traktor Z2 for DVS and vinyl 👍
It looks good if I hadn't got a db2 for 600 new I would consider this, the fx buttons look like the Roland boss Dr sample sold their old stock to them.
There's nothing wrong with the hardware, it is built for SDJP. Wouldn't want you to sell it and buy something else only to realise the issue was elsewhere.
@@digitaldjtips my DDJ-SX3 connects to SDJP 3.0 and the Scratch mixer will connect to an earlier release of SDJP but I can't get it to work with 3.0. I see others online with the same issue and Serato suggested fixes don't work. If you have any ideas please let me know cheers!

Why does battle mixers get judge as party mixers? All you need to battle is 4 sample pads, not eight. But then again, I'm thinking old school, lol. DJs do more finger drumming these days. Which is not a bad thing at all...
So far, the HUGE difference is that you cannot play vinyl and use any of the features of the mixer. No effects, no loops, etc, unless you are using Mp3's....I wish I did not buy for this reason.

@@LASHH9669 yep, it’s doable. Just make sure to you edit your controller’s settings in Serato to be midi mappable. Then you can reconfigure from there

At 8:35 you could hear the tone from the record. Also while explaining the effects afterwards you could hear it again. How come?

Yes, if using Serato simply hit record in the software - if using Vinyl use a recorder like the Evermix Mixbox hooked up to an output

I used to have a rane 56 mixer with a set of 1210 M. 2 all new, after 12 months made a massive mistake and sold it for £550 for the lot.

Pretty much the whole mixer is Midi mappable, but we've never tried this so can't be sure if it can achieve what you want.

Guilty as charged, we haven't tested the mic socket. Although, have you tried another microphone?
It’s how the mixer is. I’ve seen it mentioned in another video and I have the same issue. I just run it to another mixer and turn up the master

Yes, although time consuming, and the results would never be as good as simply buying the digital copy if available of anything you're tempted to rip.

What happens if a track has more that 4 cue points and this mixer only 4 cue pads? How would you solve that issue?
You don't really, you either access them through your laptop, or live with just 4 or buy a mixer that has 8

Microphone input is horrible on this mixer , really low . Informed by serato that it was a hardware issue.

You're right. A mixer with hardware effects would let you do that, but this replies on software effects.
