    Great video mate. As someone who also drove both, the 981 felt a bit more special. A more raw and visceral experience. That said as a daily, the 718 would be much easier to live with.

      Aesthetically the 981 Cayman is beauty to look at and certain the rear lights were 4 years ahead of the 911 as they incorporated the sculpted rear lights in the 991.2 in 2015.

    Supply and demand meant that I went to a Porsche Club GB track day several years ago and spoke to an attendee who had a 981 GT4 (well before the 718 was available) and he could have sold it for 145K. I think the price he paid was no more than 80K, so that's quite a mark up. Those days are over for either GT4. Or, given the fact that we will all have to drive a silent battery with some wheels stuck on it soon, are they...

    • @invictusporsche
      @invictusporsche  Před rokem

      Interesting to hear this and gosh £145k is bonkers. I can’t believe there were people willing to pay this sort of money for them.

    According to Porsche the majority of any lap time difference between the 981 and 718 was due to the newer spec N2 Cup Sport tires. The 3.8L engine is also the more desirable, as it doesn't have the possible durability issues and unnecessary complications of start/stop and cylinder deactivation of the 4.0L 718 engine. There's a reason why both the 981 AND the 718 GT4 Clubsport models stayed with the proven and reliable 3.8L engine for track use.

    • @invictusporsche
      @invictusporsche  Před rokem +1

      The 718 GT4 hasn’t been around for long enough to know whether they are reliable or not. In terms of performance there isn’t a huge difference esp on public roads.

    You made several comments about the gearbox on the 718 being different,I understand the clutch mechanism is different but I'm pretty sure the gearbox did not change between the generations. Same ratio's,same short shifter on what is essentially the GTS gearbox.

  • @GarageBiljon

      100% identical. I was left baffled by that comment as well. The gearing is the big negative, although fixable issue. Perhaps in the 4.0 it is less apparent? Hard to believe when they both do near 84 mph in second...

      No worries @@invictusporsche, I have a 981 GT4 and a smattering of other classic and modern Porsches. You might not be aware, but ALL manual GT3’s and GT4’s share very similar ratios. You wil find they work very wel on track as you mostly take fast corners in 3 and tighter ones in 2. They really are perfectly spaced.

      @@invictusporsche Yes, and that's incorrect. You can pronounce a noun however you want...like schedule or aluminium. You cannot pronounce a proper noun aka a name however you want. Porsche is a surname and therefore should be pronounced in the way it was originally intended by it's owner, Ferdinand. It is pronounced in two syllables...there's no debate about that.

      @@chopinfan57 …. There’s at least a little bit of debate around that. How do you pronounce Paris? Rimac? Jaguar is a British car company, but jaguar comes from a Portuguese word, so the American pronunciation actually makes more sense.
