How do you get away with building that wall without a permit and engineering plan. That wall is a load bearing wall taller than 4 foot to the base. Why is the first coarse not below ground? If that’s AB block it should be backfilled and compacted every 2 rows. Engineering would require 6 feet of geogrid every 2 rows with a minimum of 2’ of clean rock behind wall with remaining grid compacted into the soil. That wall needs to be removed and replaced it will toe out.

      We only use bidirectional geogrid

Most ppl don't understand how geogrid works. If your 24 ft up u don't just put 4-8ft of gg you lay down 24ft of gg extended back

Compaction of the original soil has nothing to do with the walls stability. They didn't properly compact the gravel, only way that happens unless you ordered the wrong gravel entirely.

And we had fixed so many walls in east tn cause nobody knew how to install correctly .it's really sad shit still going on this was earlier 2000s .and noticed nobody ever did proper drain and locking into land every other row .trust me we built some cabins off side of mountains that we had to put a 30 by 50 Deadman Pitt in the street with steel connections to foundation so cabin wouldn't slide off mountain and ive seen few cabins slide its crazy how it was wild west .by the way we were reason the roads can't be as steep as used to be .and no fun taking 64 feet off top of mountain to get road in .then we got smart and used I beams hell yea no more piers .and beams and metal then pour driveway go look at black bear ridge what's left in pigeon forge since fire alot got rebuilt I haven't been there long time

Oh yes it does ask me how I know we were doing walls 60 to 90 courses tall .this type and the 2 and half ton retainer wall block had over 70 foot wall of those had to fix off side of mountains that was a nightmare .in Gatlinburg .

@mechanictaft4848 my thoughts were similar. We didnt get to see how drainage was done or if the wall was tied into the land at all. Let alone every other course. Most walls i have seen fail, were due to no, or improper tie in support. I also am not a fan of hollow blocks for a wall that high. I hope the issue is easily fixed. Because we dont see 100% of the work, everything could have been perfect and its just a minor issue... hate to see them rip it out and see corners were cut to save time. That would really hurt me as the boss.
