Ebbit's Field was a band box stadium and needed to be replaced. Back when the Dodgers were looking for a new place to buld and all they could come up with was to move to Queens, and Brooklyn landlords told O'Mally to piss off about buying their properties to expand into a new stadium, that, was when Brooklyn lost the Dodgers. My Father use to quote from the book "Boys of Summer" and say "in a perfect world, the Dodgers would have gotten a new stadium in Brooklyn and LA would have gotten the Mets".
It's interesting to speculate. Had O'Malley been agreeable to Queens, in all likelihood there's your two NY teams to the present day. The Giants probably go to Minneapolis, as they were rumored to in the 50s. Maybe the (old) Senators move to LA or SF in the early 60s, with the other city getting an expansion franchise. In the NL, Houston is joined by an expansion replacement for the Senators, and the DC area hosts NL baseball a full 40-some years earlier than what actually happened? Does LA being a one-team (AL) city into the mid-sixties attract the Braves' owners, and Charlie Finley looks to Atlanta rather than Oakland? Fun stuff.
The Dodgers leaving was a perfect storm of circumstances. On one hand you had Robert Moses basically doing everything he could to make the Dodgers leave Brooklyn and on the other you had the Giants who were in such horrific shape up and down that they jumped at the opportunity to leave NY. Because had the Giants not wanted to leave, the league would have never ok’d the Dodgers move to LA. The Dodgers had to do very little to convince the Giants to go with them. To this day letting the Dodgers and Giants leave is arguably the worst municipal disaster ever.

I disagree...the Dodgers and Giants leaving was the best thing for two franchises that had been smothered by the Bronx Bombers...no one wants to admit that save for 54 and 55 the National League in New York City was a corpse...both franchises took turns getting beaten in the series while playing in substandard stadiums while the Yankees had a marvel in the Bronx! Once Shea opened in 1964, the Mets started to outdraw the Yankees every year to 1976. If say the Giants were offered The Flushing stadium, they would have stayed and with the good young talent coming up would have been the dominant team in New York. The Dodgers would have convinced either the Phillies, Pirates or Reds to move to California. Those teams were having attendance problems too. Walter O’Malley does deserve the blame with Moses as the land that he demanded for his stadium was not going to be offered to him and he knew it. That land wasn’t developed until the Barclays Center. It took 50 years for that parcel of land to be freed up.
Hey Brooklyn - rubbing salt into the wound! The Dodgers departed just before a local kid named Koufax kinda became a big deal! At least you got an opportunity to cheer for him in the 1963 World Series when he struck out 15 Yankees!
That's what is was like in Cleveland when the Browns announced they were moving during the 1995 season. I attended a few games there in the early 1990s and to learn about their move was very sad. I'm from Pennsylvania but I like all of the "rust belt" teams. Best fans in the world here.
My dad stopped watching baseball. He never liked the Mets since they were marketed as a team to replace the dodgers which they did not nor could they ever. He became a Yankees fan later in life because at least the Yankees never left
Alan Sands-Technically the Brooklyn Dodgers joined baseball in 1883, the same year as the Giants, before becoming a NL team in 1890. So all in all the Dodgers were in New York City the same amount of time as the Giants, even though they didn't join the NL until 1890.
We feel the same way some of these fans felt in '57 when we had to get rid of the old Yankee Stadium. I mean, how could anyone want to get rid of pieces of history like that?
@@ramenlover1727 Not really. The Isles are leaving Nassau Coliseum after it just got renovated, and it's not being torn down. At least not yet. Even the Meadowlands Arena is still around. Ebbets Field should've been preserved for its cultural significance. It's one of New York's greatest landmarks and that's saying something. Tearing down Ebbets Field is like tearing down MSG. Plus, the Yankees and Mets can still use it from time to time for some special games. Imagine a Yankees vs Dodgers game in Ebbets Field, despite the fact that their still the LA Dodgers now. It'd be like how the Carolina Hurricanes still preserve the Hartford Whalers legacy annually with Whalers Night, where the Hurricanes where the old Whalers jerseys and even play the classic brass bonanza theme. Those games are like a real OG Whalers game pulled straight out of the 90's.

I lived in Brooklyn, but was born in the Bronx (1934). I was winner all the time in the forties. My older brothers and 3 additional children all were born in Brooklyn after my parents went back to Brooklyn. I do miss Red Barber and Connie Desmond, the ticker tape; Red and Connie reading the broadcast,(NOT at the out of town game, but in the WHN studios) the old Goldies, etc. I was comfortable with Mel Allen and Russ Hodges and Mel's southern accent; '' hello there everybody", White Owl cigars, Ruppert Beer...etc. Yeah, Dimag.....

I'm a Mets fan. Long Island born and raised. My father was a Dodgers turned Mets fan. When I was little I asked my dad why he was a Dodgers fan and not a Yankees fan before the Mets showed up? He said there's no way I'm molding you into being a Yankees fan. Lol. This stuff is a tear jerker seeing how old Brooklyn was like and how my family got to see all of that. Very sad tearing down a baseball cathedral like that. I actually got to see Mets vs. Dodgers at Shea. Valenzuella vs. Gooden. I go around the back of Shea with my two brothers and the Dodgers bus stops. Here comes Garvey, Lasorda and Vallenzuela in like $5,000 maybe $10,000 3 piece suits. They were all no bigger than 5ft 5. Lol. Later we bump into this Dodgers fan. This old fella bled Dodger blue. He was nicd, wasn't rude at all but we weren't change how he felt and goes "I hope the Dodgers kick the shit out of the Mets".... 😂😂 Still a little bitterness left in him and probably took it with him to his grave. I was a Dodger fan and lived in the southern part of the Midwest where most everyone was a Cardinal or Cub fan. As teen I would drive 160 miles to see the Dodgers play in St. Louis at least 2- or 3-times year and at that time they played in Sportsmans Park home park of the St. Louis Cardinals. I was so glad when the Dodgers beat the Yankies in 1955. I guess was for the underdog and really wanted them to beat the Yankies and they did.
But they give a damn now, wishing they still had the team in San Diego. But the Chargers originated in Los Angeles and their move would be as if the Dodgers returned to Brooklyn, back to where they started from.
A kid in NC watched the Dodgers on TV with Dizzy Dean calling the game, telling how Snider cpuld hit it a "Country Mile", great times, then it all ends with them going to lala land.
Interestingly enough my grandparents arrived in Los Angeles before the Dodgers but they were Dodger fans because of Jackie Robinson, who ironically, was a Los Angeles sports icon in college, but he never played for the Dodgers in Los Angeles!

The Lakers were just itching to come to Los Angeles in 1960 as they grew weary of their Minneapolis Home, along with their low attendance. As for the Rams leaving Cleveland, in 1946 the San Francisco 49’ers became An Expansion Team in the NFL. With a team in San Francisco, the NFL wanted to put a team in Los Angeles to be a rival of the 49’ers and they chose the Rams. Reeves wanted to leave Cleveland anyway considering the Frozen Weather and the Lousy Attendance. Considering that this during WWII when Rams Owner Reeves wanted to leave, he was forced to wait until The War was finally over in 1945 since travel was prohibited during the war.

After losing to the Pistons in the 1955 Championship, combined with the domination of the Boston Celtics, the Lakers were just flat out terrible after 1955 and all through their final days in Minneapolis. There was a rumor that the St Louis Browns were looking to move to LA as early as the '42 season, but Pearl Harbor & the threat of a possible attack on the west coast took care of that.
Sad thing for the fans, for sure. And I love diving into this stuff because I love baseball history. But it bothers me a little bit when there's so much attention given to the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn, like they're the only fan group to ever lose a team. Had both the Dodgers and Giants not have left New York, the Mets wouldn’t have been A Twinkle to the Eyes of the New Yorkers. Only God Knows what kind of Baseball Teams we would be having in Los Angeles and San Francisco because eventually Major League Baseball would want to put teams in those two cities sometime after 1957 long before the A’s moved to Oakland in 1968 and the San Diego Padres were born in 1969.
I don't know which team would have moved to San Francisco, but the St. Louis Browns were the first team that was looking to relocate to L.A. before they ended up moving to Baltimore and becoming the Orioles. The other team would have been the Washington Senators who later moved to Minnesota and became the Twins.

@@Jiltedin2007 The Browns were looking to move after the 1941 season, the vote was supposed to come up on Dec 8, 1941. Obviously wasn't happening then. The Browns owner thought he could outlast the Cardinals in St. Louis, but in 1953, Anheuser Busch bought the Cards and Veeck knew he had to move. The AL forced him to seel the team and the owner moved them to Baltimore.
If they didn't have the dual move to the coast with the Dodgers, the Giants probably would've wound up in Minneapolis. They had a AAA farm team there & were rumored to be looking into that possible move. Perhaps even Toronto had a shot. IIRC they were a distant second to Milwaukee when the Braves left Boston.

I've written a few books on baseball history. In my research I've discovered a politically incorrect truth about the Dodgers and Giants both moving out of New York City. The neighborhoods surrounding their ballparks became crime-ridden. Fans no long felt safe in travelling to and from the games. This was especially true of the Polo Grounds. Few people talk about this issue, but it was a huge factor in the Giants and Dodgers relocating to California.
If that's the case, why did the Dodgers still draw over one million in attendance in 1957? They are still the only team to have drawn over one million in attendance in their last year in their home city. In fact, the Dodgers outdrew the Red Sox from the end of the war until 1957. Imagine if Tom Yawkey decided to move west at the same time. Would he have been justified?
@Matthew Brooks If you go through The Sporting News archives from that era, the owners of both the Giants and Dodgers often talk about urban decay around their ballparks. The neighboring surrounding Polo Grounds was especially bad after a low-income housing development was built nearby. A fan was killed by stray bullet one day. No one wanted to park a car anywhere near the ballpark. Young thugs demanded protection money to watch your car. if you didn't pay up, the car would be vandalized while you were at the game. I cover the subject in depth in my book The Games that Changed Baseball. i can also recommend The Giants of the Polo Grounds as an excellent book not written by me.

As more and more white families left Brooklyn, fewer fans came to the games. TV and radio ratings were still good. The Giants only drew about 600,000 fans in 1957. They only had six radio stations carrying their games that season.

Because the Mayor of New York told Dodgers Owner Walter O’Malley to go ____ yourself when O’Malley requested a new stadium for the Dodgers to play in forcing O’Malley to take the Giants with him and move to California. Why did the Lakers leave Minnesota? Because attendance started getting poor there in Minneapolis forcing them to move in 1960, as happy as they were to arrive in Sunny Southern California. The Chargers originated in Los Angeles in 1960 when the AFL was born. The following year they moved to San Diego and stayed there until they were pushed back to Los Angeles in 2017 by The City of San Diego. The Raiders came to Los Angeles in 1982 because Raiders Owner Al Davis was squabbling with The City of Oakland about something I don’t know about, and with the Rams in Anaheim Stadium he knew that his Raiders will definitely steal the show once in Los Angeles. The Rams had already spent 50 years in Los Angeles and Anaheim before the bitch Georgia Frontiere moved them to her hometown of St. Louis. Eight years after her death, Stan Kroenkie moved the Rams back to Los Angeles because The NFL wanted to bring a team back to Los Angeles and in 2016 the Rams were their first choice, with the Chargers coming second. Although the Raiders also wanted to return to Los Angeles, but they were flatly turned down by the NFL. Those are your reasons why our current teams are now residing in Los Angeles.

Maybe, but the Expos never really drew enough crowds. Especially after 1994 for obvious reasons. The team wasn’t a success either (only won in the playoffs once in 1981). Granted they finally pulled through as the Nationals in 2019.
@@RB01.10 We drove up to Montreal from Boston one Saturday. That day the Expos played the Blue Jays and only drew about 5,000 fans. The next day the Expos played the Red Sox and there were 28,000 fans at the game. Most of them were not Expos fans. The Expos fans that were there looked shell shocked to see so many people there. The lines to the refreshment stands were 45 minutes long because there were only two of them open in the whole stadium.

LA wanted a stadium regardless to lure a team. Who’s to say the senators would’ve got the ok to come to LA and get a stadium there. Also an expansion team would have been out in LA
The residents in Chaves Ravine had been moved out before it was decided to put Dodger Stadium there. Originally, a public housing project was supposed to be built on the site but plans for it fell through. This left a large empty space because the people had already been relocated and the buildings had been torn down. Then Walter O'Malley flew over the site in a helicopter and decided it would a perfect place to put a baseball stadium. From what I've read, the old elementary school is buried under third base.
After a half century with no teams moving, the Braves went from Boston to Milwaukee & drew over 2 million fans in 4 of their first 5 years. That got the attention of O'Malley, and a lot of other people.
Lifelong L.A. Dodgers fan who grew up in the shadow of Dodgers stadium and as a kid watched the great Dodger's infield of the 70s from the left and right-field bleachers. I don't even acknowledge that the Dodgers ever played in Brooklyn. As far as I'm concerned, they've only ever played in L.A. for L.A.
It was a necessary business decision. LA has far more people than Brooklyn and the Dodgers have the highest attendance in baseball now. The fans weren't showing up in Brooklyn. If they don't go to LA, another team goes to the second biggest market in the nation.
Thankfully, the Houston Astros beat the LA Imposters to win the 2017 World Series. Time will never change what really happened that resulted in the hijacking of the Dodgers out of Brooklyn.
True fans stay loyal to a franchise that stays local to a community. This franchise betrayed the Brooklyn Dodgers fans. 68 seasons in Brooklyn didn't matter to Walter O' Malley. Being the most profitable franchise in the National League in 1956 didn't matter to O'Malley either. When a team moves, they shouldn't be allowed to take the name, logo, and team history with them. Much like was the case when the Browns left Cleveland following the 1995 season.
Corny as this may sound, when the Dodgers integrated baseball, their "community" transcended Brooklyn to the hearts of those around the Country mindful of the evils of segregation. The borough of Brooklyn is and always will be a part of the Dodgers, but truth be told, the Dodgers' story is bigger than Brooklyn. They touched the souls of individuals in every corner of U.S., and I'm sure some the world over.
Walter O' Malley had no choice. The area around Ebbetts Field there was no parking only sat 30k too small even by 1950's standards and many of a long time Dodgers fans had moved out of Brooklyn. He tried to get a new stadium but keep the team in Brooklyn ,but Robert Mosses only wanted to offer him land in Queens today where Citi Field is

Ironically, one of the greatest Dodgers ever who lived in LA County and played at UCLA, Jackie Robinson, never played for the Dodgers in LA!

Ebbit's Field was a band box stadium and needed to be replaced. Back when the Dodgers were looking for a new place to buld and all they could come up with was to move to Queens, and Brooklyn landlords told O'Mally to piss off about buying their properties to expand into a new stadium, that, was when Brooklyn lost the Dodgers. My Father use to quote from the book "Boys of Summer" and say "in a perfect world, the Dodgers would have gotten a new stadium in Brooklyn and LA would have gotten the Mets".
It's interesting to speculate. Had O'Malley been agreeable to Queens, in all likelihood there's your two NY teams to the present day. The Giants probably go to Minneapolis, as they were rumored to in the 50s. Maybe the (old) Senators move to LA or SF in the early 60s, with the other city getting an expansion franchise. In the NL, Houston is joined by an expansion replacement for the Senators, and the DC area hosts NL baseball a full 40-some years earlier than what actually happened? Does LA being a one-team (AL) city into the mid-sixties attract the Braves' owners, and Charlie Finley looks to Atlanta rather than Oakland? Fun stuff.
If the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn, I would be a fan. I know how it feels when your team moves.
The Dodgers leaving was a perfect storm of circumstances. On one hand you had Robert Moses basically doing everything he could to make the Dodgers leave Brooklyn and on the other you had the Giants who were in such horrific shape up and down that they jumped at the opportunity to leave NY. Because had the Giants not wanted to leave, the league would have never ok’d the Dodgers move to LA. The Dodgers had to do very little to convince the Giants to go with them.
To this day letting the Dodgers and Giants leave is arguably the worst municipal disaster ever.

I disagree...the Dodgers and Giants leaving was the best thing for two franchises that had been smothered by the Bronx Bombers...no one wants to admit that save for 54 and 55 the National League in New York City was a corpse...both franchises took turns getting beaten in the series while playing in substandard stadiums while the Yankees had a marvel in the Bronx! Now the Dodgers are as Los Angeles as bacon wrapped hot dogs!

@@kgizzle92 I don’t agree with this, the Yankees were just about to end their run as the dominant team in baseball. Once Shea opened in 1964, the Mets started to outdraw the Yankees every year to 1976. If say the Giants were offered The Flushing stadium, they would have stayed and with the good young talent coming up would have been the dominant team in New York. The Dodgers would have convinced either the Phillies, Pirates or Reds to move to California. Those teams were having attendance problems too.
Walter O’Malley does deserve the blame with Moses as the land that he demanded for his stadium was not going to be offered to him and he knew it. That land wasn’t developed until the Barclays Center. It took 50 years for that parcel of land to be freed up.

That's what is was like in Cleveland when the Browns announced they were moving during the 1995 season. I attended a few games there in the early 1990s and to learn about their move was very sad. I'm from Pennsylvania but I like all of the "rust belt" teams. Best fans in the world here.

My dad stopped watching baseball. He never liked the Mets since they were marketed as a team to replace the dodgers which they did not nor could they ever. He became a Yankees fan later in life because at least the Yankees never left
1890 to 1957. So in 3 more years the Dodgers will have been in LA for as long as they were in Brooklyn.
Alan Sands-Technically the Brooklyn Dodgers joined baseball in 1883, the same year as the Giants, before becoming a NL team in 1890. So all in all the Dodgers were in New York City the same amount of time as the Giants, even though they didn't join the NL until 1890.

We feel the same way some of these fans felt in '57 when we had to get rid of the old Yankee Stadium. I mean, how could anyone want to get rid of pieces of history like that?

@@ramenlover1727 Not really. The Isles are leaving Nassau Coliseum after it just got renovated, and it's not being torn down. At least not yet. Even the Meadowlands Arena is still around. Ebbets Field should've been preserved for its cultural significance. It's one of New York's greatest landmarks and that's saying something. Tearing down Ebbets Field is like tearing down MSG. Plus, the Yankees and Mets can still use it from time to time for some special games. Imagine a Yankees vs Dodgers game in Ebbets Field, despite the fact that their still the LA Dodgers now. It'd be like how the Carolina Hurricanes still preserve the Hartford Whalers legacy annually with Whalers Night, where the Hurricanes where the old Whalers jerseys and even play the classic brass bonanza theme. Those games are like a real OG Whalers game pulled straight out of the 90's.

I lived in Brooklyn, but was born in the Bronx (1934). I was winner all the time in the forties. My older brothers and 3 additional children all were born in Brooklyn after my parents went back to Brooklyn. I do miss Red Barber and Connie Desmond, the ticker tape; Red and Connie reading the broadcast,(NOT at the out of town game, but in the WHN studios) the old Goldies, etc. I was comfortable with Mel Allen and Russ Hodges and Mel's southern accent; '' hello there everybody", White Owl cigars, Ruppert Beer...etc. Yeah, Dimag.....

My grandfather was the biggest Brooklyn Dodgers fan you'd ever know. He was absolutely crushed when they left and cursed the team to never win again.
It obviously didn't work since the Dodgers have been more successful in Los Angeles than they've ever been in Brooklyn where, except for '55, they only delivered nothing but heartbreak to their fans year after year after year.

I'm a Mets fan. Long Island born and raised. My father was a Dodgers turned Mets fan. When I was little I asked my dad why he was a Dodgers fan and not a Yankees fan before the Mets showed up? He said there's no way I'm molding you into being a Yankees fan. Lol. This stuff is a tear jerker seeing how old Brooklyn was like and how my family got to see all of that. Very sad tearing down a baseball cathedral like that. I actually got to see Mets vs. Dodgers at Shea. Valenzuella vs. Gooden. I go around the back of Shea with my two brothers and the Dodgers bus stops. Here comes Garvey, Lasorda and Vallenzuela in like $5,000 maybe $10,000 3 piece suits. They were all no bigger than 5ft 5. Lol. Later we bump into this Dodgers fan. This old fella bled Dodger blue. He was nicd, wasn't rude at all but we weren't change how he felt and goes "I hope the Dodgers kick the shit out of the Mets".... 😂😂 Still a little bitterness left in him and probably took it with him to his grave. I was a Dodger fan and lived in the southern part of the Midwest where most everyone was a Cardinal or Cub fan. As teen I would drive 160 miles to see the Dodgers play in St. Louis at least 2- or 3-times year and at that time they played in Sportsmans Park home park of the St. Louis Cardinals. I was so glad when the Dodgers beat the Yankies in 1955. I guess was for the underdog and really wanted them to beat the Yankies and they did.
Brooklyn did exactly like SD when we found out the Chargers were leaving. No one gave a damn.
But they give a damn now, wishing they still had the team in San Diego. But the Chargers originated in Los Angeles and their move would be as if the Dodgers returned to Brooklyn, back to where they started from.
A kid in NC watched the Dodgers on TV with Dizzy Dean calling the game, telling how Snider cpuld hit it a "Country Mile", great times, then it all ends with them going to lala land.

Interestingly enough my grandparents arrived in Los Angeles before the Dodgers but they were Dodger fans because of Jackie Robinson, who ironically, was a Los Angeles sports icon in college, but he never played for the Dodgers in Los Angeles!

When the Lakers where in Minneapolis Lakers at the time the Minneapolis Lakers move to Los Angeles Lakers in 1960 when the dodgers where in Brooklyn in 1890 when the rams where in Cleveland at the time they move to Los Angeles rams and they left Los Angeles and they became STL Rams and came to Los Angeles for thier first time in 1946
The Lakers were just itching to come to Los Angeles in 1960 as they grew weary of their Minneapolis Home, along with their low attendance. As for the Rams leaving Cleveland, in 1946 the San Francisco 49’ers became An Expansion Team in the NFL. With a team in San Francisco, the NFL wanted to put a team in Los Angeles to be a rival of the 49’ers and they chose the Rams. Reeves wanted to leave Cleveland anyway considering the Frozen Weather and the Lousy Attendance. Considering that this during WWII when Rams Owner Reeves wanted to leave, he was forced to wait until The War was finally over in 1945 since travel was prohibited during the war.

1954 was the Lakers last championship in Minnesota. After losing to the Pistons in the 1955 Championship, combined with the domination of the Boston Celtics, the Lakers were just flat out terrible after 1955 and all through their final days in Minneapolis. Perhaps that’s why Attendance was so very poor then.

Only God Knows what kind of Baseball Teams we would be having in Los Angeles and San Francisco because eventually Major League Baseball would want to put teams in those two cities sometime after 1957 long before the A’s moved to Oakland in 1968 and the San Diego Padres were born in 1969.
I don't know which team would have moved to San Francisco, but the St. Louis Browns were the first team that was looking to relocate to L.A. before they ended up moving to Baltimore and becoming the Orioles. The other team would have been the Washington Senators who later moved to Minnesota and became the Twins.

@@Jiltedin2007 The Browns were looking to move after the 1941 season, the vote was supposed to come up on Dec 8, 1941. Obviously wasn't happening then. The Browns owner thought he could outlast the Cardinals in St. Louis, but in 1953, Anheuser Busch bought the Cards and Veeck knew he had to move. The AL forced him to seel the team and the owner moved them to Baltimore.

They had a AAA farm team there & were rumored to be looking into that possible move. Perhaps even Toronto had a shot. IIRC they were a distant second to Milwaukee when the Braves left Boston.
Fans in Brooklyn were just as upset about a team leaving 65 plus years ago just as much as many in Oakland are now. Except Oakland as a city is not as good as it was in the 1970s and 1980s…
I've written a few books on baseball history. In my research I've discovered a politically incorrect truth about the Dodgers and Giants both moving out of New York City. The neighborhoods surrounding their ballparks became crime-ridden. Fans no long felt safe in travelling to and from the games. This was especially true of the Polo Grounds. Few people talk about this issue, but it was a huge factor in the Giants and Dodgers relocating to California.
If that's the case, why did the Dodgers still draw over one million in attendance in 1957? They are still the only team to have drawn over one million in attendance in their last year in their home city. In fact, the Dodgers outdrew the Red Sox from the end of the war until 1957. Imagine if Tom Yawkey decided to move west at the same time. Would he have been justified?
@Matthew Brooks If you go through The Sporting News archives from that era, the owners of both the Giants and Dodgers often talk about urban decay around their ballparks. The neighboring surrounding Polo Grounds was especially bad after a low-income housing development was built nearby. A fan was killed by stray bullet one day. No one wanted to park a car anywhere near the ballpark. Young thugs demanded protection money to watch your car. if you didn't pay up, the car would be vandalized while you were at the game. I cover the subject in depth in my book The Games that Changed Baseball. i can also recommend The Giants of the Polo Grounds as an excellent book not written by me.

As more and more white families left Brooklyn, fewer fans came to the games. TV and radio ratings were still good. The Giants only drew about 600,000 fans in 1957. They only had six radio stations carrying their games that season.

First of all, get your facts straight before you accuse anyone(Including a city) of stealing!
Why did the Dodgers leave Brooklyn? Because the Mayor of New York told Dodgers Owner Walter O’Malley to go ____ yourself when O’Malley requested a new stadium for the Dodgers to play in forcing O’Malley to take the Giants with him and move to California.
Why did the Lakers leave Minnesota? Because attendance started getting poor there in Minneapolis forcing them to move in 1960, as happy as they were to arrive in Sunny Southern California.
The Chargers originated in Los Angeles in 1960 when the AFL was born. The following year they moved to San Diego and stayed there until they were pushed back to Los Angeles in 2017 by The City of San Diego.
The Raiders came to Los Angeles in 1982 because Raiders Owner Al Davis was squabbling with The City of Oakland about something I don’t know about, and with the Rams in Anaheim Stadium he knew that his Raiders will definitely steal the show once in Los Angeles.
The Rams had already spent 50 years in Los Angeles and Anaheim before the bitch Georgia Frontiere moved them to her hometown of St. Louis. Eight years after her death, Stan Kroenkie moved the Rams back to Los Angeles because The NFL wanted to bring a team back to Los Angeles and in 2016 the Rams were their first choice, with the Chargers coming second. Although the Raiders also wanted to return to Los Angeles, but they were flatly turned down by the NFL.
Those are your reasons why our current teams are now residing in Los Angeles.

@@RB01.10 We drove up to Montreal from Boston one Saturday. That day the Expos played the Blue Jays and only drew about 5,000 fans. The next day the Expos played the Red Sox and there were 28,000 fans at the game. Most of them were not Expos fans. The Expos fans that were there looked shell shocked to see so many people there. The lines to the refreshment stands were 45 minutes long because there were only two of them open in the whole stadium.

LA wanted a stadium regardless to lure a team. Who’s to say the senators would’ve got the ok to come to LA and get a stadium there. Also an expansion team would have been out in LA

The residents in Chaves Ravine had been moved out before it was decided to put Dodger Stadium there. Originally, a public housing project was supposed to be built on the site but plans for it fell through. This left a large empty space because the people had already been relocated and the buildings had been torn down. Then Walter O'Malley flew over the site in a helicopter and decided it would a perfect place to put a baseball stadium. From what I've read, the old elementary school is buried under third base.
Lived it in Montral. Not fun.

After a half century with no teams moving, the Braves went from Boston to Milwaukee & drew over 2 million fans in 4 of their first 5 years. That got the attention of O'Malley, and a lot of other people.
Lifelong L.A. Dodgers fan who grew up in the shadow of Dodgers stadium and as a kid watched the great Dodger's infield of the 70s from the left and right-field bleachers. I don't even acknowledge that the Dodgers ever played in Brooklyn. As far as I'm concerned, they've only ever played in L.A. for L.A.

It was a necessary business decision. LA has far more people than Brooklyn and the Dodgers have the highest attendance in baseball now. The fans weren't showing up in Brooklyn. If they don't go to LA, another team goes to the second biggest market in the nation.

True fans stay loyal to a franchise that stays local to a community. This franchise betrayed the Brooklyn Dodgers fans. 68 seasons in Brooklyn didn't matter to Walter O' Malley. Being the most profitable franchise in the National League in 1956 didn't matter to O'Malley either. When a team moves, they shouldn't be allowed to take the name, logo, and team history with them. Much like was the case when the Browns left Cleveland following the 1995 season.
Corny as this may sound, when the Dodgers integrated baseball, their "community" transcended Brooklyn to the hearts of those around the Country mindful of the evils of segregation. The borough of Brooklyn is and always will be a part of the Dodgers, but truth be told, the Dodgers' story is bigger than Brooklyn. They touched the souls of individuals in every corner of U.S., and I'm sure some the world over.
Walter O' Malley had no choice. The area around Ebbetts Field there was no parking only sat 30k too small even by 1950's standards and many of a long time Dodgers fans had moved out of Brooklyn. He tried to get a new stadium but keep the team in Brooklyn ,but Robert Mosses only wanted to offer him land in Queens today where Citi Field is
That still didn’t stop us by winning 5 World Series here you Moran, New York gave the dodgers and giants away. Either eventually the Mets where founded in 1962 and plus you have the Yankees so New Yorkers didn’t really lose anything is more of a send off and good luck. Fuck you okay
