  • Hey lovely people! I really hope you enjoyed watching my first week as an AP. I do quite like vlogging but I feel like my life isn't that interesting but then I like watching vlogs where people are just doing mundane things??? So. Many. Thoughts. Do let me know if you want more videos like this :)

I’ve just started as an AP in a learning disability partnership. I’m on Day 4! Your videos are really helpful and it’s nice to see how far you’ve come from your first week to your last!

Great channel! I’m so glad to have found your videos. How much of the job consists of psychometric testing and would you be able to do a video explaining how some of these are scored ? I’m really worried about this part of the AP role. Thank you❤️

Thanks for the comment! For one of my roles I only do psychometric testing. I could do a video on it, however, there are so many different assessments which are all scored differently. Please email me if you have any specific questions: sharonlinb@gmail.com and its normal to feel worried about a new experience but it's never as bad as you think!

Thank you for providing an update!! Hope you are doing ok with all thats all is going on in the world! How did you qualify to become an aba therapist? I was looking forward to applying for some jobs but because of covid-19 everything has been pushed back and there are very few jobs in an area near to me :(( do you think if nothing comes up going for a mental health healthcare Assistant role/ support worker would be a good backup option? Did you have to move location for your AP post or did you wait for one to come up?Hope you are still enjoying it now!! ☺️

Hey! Thanks, I hope you're staying safe! I received training on the job (most ABA jobs provide this). I feel for you so much, I would not like to be job hunting in this current situation HOWEVER I'm assuming there is a big need for health care assistants. Even though it's not a AP job, I gained so much valuable knowledge from my ABA job and working in a dementia specialist care home. Luckily, I did not have to relocate but one of the hospitals I work at is an hour's drive away so I did have to compromise. Due to the virus my role is changing, as with a lot of other AP's, it's a very interesting time to work for the NHS and I'm still very much enjoying it!

Sharon B i am and I hope you are too! Yes it would be even better if there were jobs to apply too but there are literally none even close to me ☹️ i have noticed that there is an increase for HCA right now but they are mostly full time permanent and i want to see if i could get an AP role first! Stay safe as you work in the nhs and I am glad that you are still enjoying it ☺️

Can I ask what experience you had before getting your AP job? I’m worried I don’t have enough varied experience

In my latest video I go through all of the experience I had before getting an AP post. I don't think its necessarily about the amount of experience you have but rather the skills you've got!

Hi Sharon, I really enjoy watching your video so far. I am going to have a video interview with NHS trust in the upcoming Tuesday and preparing some questions. I noticed that you used to come across the question of what to do when some professionals have different opinions in the multi-discipline meeting and you didn't really know what to answer at that time being. Stepping into the first month of being AT in NHS, have you ever faced this kind of scenario and what will you do now?

Congratulations for getting an interview! Wow thats a very good question.... So I have seen this play out in an MDT meeting and let me tell you, it's not fun to watch however I did learn a lot from it. If I was placed in a scenario where my view was different to another professional in the team I would firstly remind them that their opinion is appreciated and valid however because (insert examples of why you believe your opinion to be correct eg. cognitive assessment scores/mood screens/behavioural charts) I disagree with them. I would ask them if they have any contradictory evidence to what I have found (If yes, then maybe do assessments again? or ask a 3rd person to conduct additional testing?). I would then invite them along to visit the patient with me so they can observe what the patient is like in my interactions with them. The main aim here is not to be right but to make sure the patient gets the correct care. It is also very important to form good relationships with the people you work with - this is not a "I'm right, you're wrong" situation.

Have you got your master or only bachelor so you know I want to know if I can get init the job only with bachelor degree. What experience do you have from previous? Finally, how old are you?

Hey! I'm 23 and studied Psychology with a placement year at uni. I did not have a masters, you don't need a masters to be an AP or to get onto the doctorate. In this video I talk about all of the experience I had before getting an AP post - czcams.com/video/tBNpU-r4wPU/video.html
