- The 1992 Dream Team is considered the greatest team ever assembled. 11 of 12 players are Hall of Famers and some of the greatest icons of the NBA. The starting 5 featured Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson and David Robinson. But before the team went to the olympics Coach Chuck Daly had an idea. See how his crazy idea bonded the Greatest NBA Team Ever!

Would have been 12 Hall of Famers if they had chosen Shaq over Christian Laettner.
He’s in the HOF dummy🤦🏾♂️. All members of the dream team got inducted
@@shotgunoza Shaq was selected to participate in the 1996 Summer Olympics not the 1992 Olympics and @Richard Evins is correct that they chose Christian Laettner over Shaq at the time!!
@@shotgunoza You are wrong. Christian Leitner out of Duke was chosen over Shaq of LSU to be the only college player on the team. Christian Leitner did not make the Hall of fame. Shaq did, so if he was on the team all 12 would have been in the HOF
They didn’t choose the best college player at that time because they had to choose the most deserving which was Christian Laetner as he was the NCAA Finals MVP.
@@shotgunoza he’s not in the hall of fame tho dummy. Know ur facts before u speak.
Nobody forgot about that loss. It’s literally apart of the documentary that went over this team.
Key word is "tried"
Come on. We all know the loss isn’t as broadcasted as their wins so this is news to somebody. Maybe not to me or you but somebody out there.
Honestly there's no way they were trying. In a real 4 quarter game the Dream team would Win by 150 points
News to me
News to me too
You left out one IMPORTANT move by Daily. He kept Magic & MJ out of the game to ensure neither Magic's facilitating or Michael's dominance WOULD NOT bail the dream team out.
Magic baby czcams.com/users/shortsSZz3MK9p_tE?feature=share
Daley
Ya he knew and wanted them to lose to give them motivation
He said Mike, I don't remember him saying anything about Magic
Also, it was just a warm-up practice. Nuttin' more. Nuttin' less
This sounds like the exact thing a sports anime coach would do to knock their team down a peg to teach them humility and then when the win the next day the anime OP plays
Only in anime they somehow wouldnt need to sit out either magic or MJ, they would somehow lose anyways then come back and win
@@Lord_Cynrik nah in anime mj and magic would sit out, it’s the same with what happened in kuroko no basket and slam dunk
@@copaka98 this never happened in haikyuu lol
weeb
If that's the coach plan, it's brilliant.
It's an act of saying don't underestimate your opponents even you are all great players.
No cap
It’s why he refused to play Jordan late in the game
It’s like every movie with a white coach in a poor ghetto high school
@@christopherbenoit5585 only one i know is coach carter and last i checked Samuel L jackson ain’t white
@@edwinyounes4934 you obviously haven’t seen many movies than it’s so common that it’s a trope...
Imagine how good you would have felt after beating that team and seeing deflated NBA stars. Talk about confidence boost
They were definitely confident as hell for 2 days until they got whooped by 100😂. Nah but fr, 11 hall of famers, all franchise players on their respective teams. Must be hard for some players to go from shooting 30 shots a game to having to spread the ball around.
@@purpleirklegrovestreet basically what kd, harden, and kyrie has to go through lol
@@eboyeman8457 Lol well kinda
@Dev how tf are they gone be in the hall of fame if they still playing inna nba
Then get destroyed by a 100
Side note: Chuck Daley made MJ sit because he knew if MJ played they would win 🏆 😏😉
🐐
,,,and Magic.
See, what Chuck did was take the guys off the court that he knew would perform anyway and could get with the program and see the message from the sideline better than from the court, since their ego and personal effort would have taken too much away from the point that a lack of teamwork can cost any team.
Jordan sucks at being a team player , his big headed ways SUCK.
@@leonwood9622 yea those 6 rings must suck to
shows that chemistry really is important
Yup. No matter what you need guys that will do the little things to win. The hardest thing with super teams is managing egos
Chuck Daily was a genius, and doesn't get enough respect, or credit for what The Dream Team did in the Olympics...
I like when Barkley talked about him coaching team USA.. he was like he coached the bad boy Pistons, if you could coach those assholes you can coach anybody
Yeah it was the coach not the 11 out 12 all-stars had not one thing to do with it, acting like the coach did anything but host practice for them, did they even have tough games, nah maybe one or two but c'mon man acting like the coach did a fucking thing is a bit crazy
@@daviddavis8773 You know nothing about The Dream team...the players even said it so who are you?!
@@HakeemTheDream616 bro I know all about the dream team don't start, Micky the mouse could have been the coach they would have won still, STFU
@@daviddavis8773 You need to learn how to talk to real MEN. Or STFU!!!
They lost on purpose,
He sat out jordan for almost the whole scrimmage,
He wanted to have the team work better together
Yeah I was wondering why he didn’t add that to the video
You still expect the other 10 Hall of Famers to beat the College team. That still leaves Magic Johnson, Pippen, Drexler and Stockton at guards. Pippen was technically a Small Forward but he'd guard the teams shooting guard if it were the best player so MJ could conserve his energy 💯
@@dickflair4538 yea but Jordan would just start not passing and destroying the college players lol
@@dubble4896 Facts 😂😂
@@dickflair4538 also as stated they didnt play together so they werent use to each others strengths and weaknesses i can go make a pro team right noe and i bet they get beat by college kids too
Chuck was in my eyes, Top 5 best NBA coaches in NBA history. In Detroit, he's the best. RIP Chuck
His mindset to do that is crazy
Miss good Ole Chuck Daly
Chuck Daly was an amazing coach.
You know them college boys was hyped after that W
Rodman would've fit so good that team full of scorers, plus it was his 18rpg year
Damn don’t see Rodman fans too often but respect, the guys a under appreciated beast
@@michaeldavis8175 thx man, appreciated
His shoes are good too
Rodman would probably avg 20 boards during the Olympics
He also lead the league in ejections a record for getting ejected in a season before Rasheed Wallace broke it
They didnt hide that lost..its well documented and almost all the dreamteamers mentioned that in an interview
The one guy that isn’t a hall of famer must feel so left out
The one non-hall of famer is Christian Laettner he averaged like 12 points a game in the nba but was one of the best college basketball players ever
He had a 10 year NBA career. No all star, but a capable rotation player. He was chosen over...Shaquille O'neal, though. Ouch.
"11 of the 12 player have been Hall of Famers"
Amen, the 12th dude
Yikes
He wasn't good enough in the NBA to join the HOF but he did make it to the college hall of fame so there's that at least.
In a great one on one interview Coach Chuck Daily said he had this planned way before the game ever happened. He knew their egos could be an issue and wanted to show them that selfishness like ego could ruin them but a will to win as brothers for one another would show the world a better version of just how great these men actually were. I love that documentary.
In other words, he tried teaching them what Larry Bird (🐐) already knew. The Celtics were very much about team play.
Or maybe Jordan was benched the whole scrimmage???
@@robert2690 Yea that was during a time when team ball wasn’t really what Jordan was known for lol. Plus they ended up playing TOO much team ball without him so they might as well let him play. 🤣
@@jwdathefax377 you need to fix your grammar
@@ommNeptr Says the person who didn’t start their sentence with a capital letter, or end it with a period? Stfu 🤫😂🤣
Was happy to grow up in this era of the NBA to watch these legends in their prime… I’m not even a basketball fan really, or American, but it was hard to look away from a prime Jordan and Pippen in action.
That was actually a great move to keep the players humble 👍🏽
Best USA Olympic mens Basketball team ever. They dominated games and brought home gold. I still have the bball card set and a couple OG Olympic jerseys.
You wanna sell one of those jerseys?... I'll buy/pay whatever the asking price on any jersey you would sell... except for the Christian Laetnner
I had a million of those mcds cards and few jerseys too as kid 💀💀I had friends who worked at mcds then so they'd steal me cases all time
Oliver B trying to trade? Got them food stamps! Lol
@@J53320 I gots Jordan and Pippen but not fo sale. Gonna pass that to the next gen.
@@kingofhisworld1 naw, don’t mess wit food stamps. you can keep dat shhh
Chuck Daly did not play Michael Jordan in the first scrimmage game and that was on purpose but the following day he put the starting five out there with Michael Jordan and they destroyed Chris Webber and the college All-Star team
This is the part that's left out. This fact right here.
Coach is right he let them lose to exposed their weaknesses.
Yeah not having Jordan on the team. He was out the whole first scrimmage and played the second go around and blew them out by over a 100
I prefer to think of this game as Daly’s plan to bring the dream team together. In all honesty, it’s also steel sharpening steel, because that group of college all stars would have been the Olympic team prior to the dream team. And they would have likely been a medal winner themselves, though likely bronze or silver.
They never tried to hide the loss. It's been talked about on countless documentaries. However thanks for the cute video
Tell em how they played the next day and the college team couldn’t even get ball past half court 😂
That was a genius idea, they had to be humble and understand the possibility of losing. They had the talent but needed the teamwork
Point aside, watching older sports clips like this can be an interesting way to observe how popular haircuts have changed over the years. Kind of cool actually.
I wish all the best NBA players still went and played in the olympics every year.
You do know the Olympics are every 4 years though right?
Before they had strictly amatures play.
Talk about steppin your game up. Playing THAT Dream Team was like going up against all hidden characters on a ridiculous expert level 😆.
I still remember watching this on TV as a kid. I remember all the promos that were out especially McDonalds stuff with the dream team logos on it. Man life was good then.
They were a epic team
Rip chuck Daly the best coach in Detroit
Bro i didn't even know laettner was on the team but honestly laettner was a problem in college no bs
Damn, the generation of miracles lookin kinda different in the live action Kuroko no Basket
the 92 dream team were so good, Everytime I think of the basketball Olympics games, I picture this team playing.
The all time best squad ever, hands down.
Losses in practice scrimmages don't really count.
Well that game help them to win while batting their egos & pride
Thats a Coach for you 👍👍
Nothing says subscribe like
“Hit that plus sign and follow for another v-“
The next day the USA team absolutely destroyed them, barely allowing any points. It was meant for them to start taking things seriously and everyone knows about this loss.
Still props to them, true professionals of their craft to lose once and learn from that loss only to come back and to completely dominate
People forget about the 1992 Lithuania team. They got Bronze, but they were INSANE
I love Daley for this he humbled the dream team before anyone else could
Remember they didn’t let Jordan play in that loss
Also Jordan didn't play in the loss, as coach "K" pointed out as well.
Yk it legendary team when MJ, Pippin, and Magic are init 🔥
PIPPEN
Now u know your heroes aren't invincible
One of... Hell No.... THE best team ever!!
This is when sports where amazing! All the new rules slow stuff down. I'll accept instant replay Physical Contact is Sports!
They weren't trying to hide anything, it was a scrimmage.
I miss you Chuck.
Chuck "Daddy Rich" Daly was/is my favorite NBA Coach.
Rejoice In Paradise 🙏
It's kinda resembles the story of kuroko's basketball. (It's an anime btw)
Imagine being the only one who’s not a Hall of Famer💀💀
Christian Laettner in tears rn
I doubt it's even a big deal to him. I've literally never been and never will be an NBA hall of famer and its never bothered me. Not even a little bit.
@@T.R.E.D. but you were never in the NBA and he was so of course it doesn’t bother you
@@PBKappa3 you don't know that 😑

That's a smart move to teach the dream team and push them to their potentiasl as the dream team
Chris Webber was a savage before the injuries took his bounce
Love seeing that UCSD logo- my alma mater. I even saw one of their practices!
How did they try and hide the “loss” thou
No media was allowed to watch.
My dad always said chemistry and knowing how to play with your team always makes me win
Good. They needed to be reminded that without fighting hard, they're just ordinary basketball players
What do you mean one of the greatest they were the GREATEST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED
Nope they played against a bunch of nobodies and this was when nobody but the usa played basketball
2012/2016 will beat that team. Their opponents that time were far behind and it showed, theres like 4-5 good international player on the nba at that time. They have 0 competition unlike now.
OMG! Larry Bird!! He is my favorite player!
Me too
No matter how good an individual is, it still is a team sport.
What a great boost by the Coach
I still have my life size David Robinson “the Admiral” poster from the 80s. Wonder what ever happened to him?
Won two championships and the 1995 MVP.
@@iamalive.4321 He was being sarcastic.
MJ was kept on the bench for a reason 🤣🤣🤣
Coz MJ would make it personal
He got the pressure of taking a loss outta the way.
Man that would be like having a college graduate on your team when you were 11
and still losing
Jordan didn’t play in that first game
That's the part he failed to mention...
MJ played just not alot the 1st game. Also not mentioned future NY Knick Allen Houston hit 10 threes to help them. MJ said that college team could go over there with them n win silver.
never think you’re unbeatable because someone in life will humble you.
That coach was smart he knew he had a get their egos out of the way and make them see. hey look it's not about you and your egos it's about you guys coming together as a whole team as one powerful unit coming through and moveing 🌊😎
That team in the Olympics never took a timeout.
Him: here’s some people on the dream team
Me knowing nothing About nba: oh I know 3 of them
They literally talked about the loss in a documentary on CZcams 😂
Hide? This is like the first thing they go into in any documentary about the Dream Team
It most of bin such a honor to meet NBA legends and to play against them
What he’s not telling you about the “loss” is that he made MJ sit out the entire scrimmage
@Dr Porter it was later proven that the coach told them to lose so they could show the world that they could be beat cause everyone didn’t think they could lose so that’s why the second time they played them they won by like 100 points Scottie pippen said
"11/12 players are hall famous"
That one player: 😭
Hall of famers
Technically all 12 are Hall of Famers since the team was inducted also.
Your comment is more sadder then that 12th player..
@@rainrani8421 you are a more sad human being if you have to write this type of comments 😢
Leitner's in the college basketball Hall of Fame, and is on the short list of the greatest college basketball players that ever lived. So many young pups think they know it all when they don't know a goddamn thing!
We know that that's why he was the best person to coach a team like that
They weren't hiding it, the game was a scrimmage.
Chuck Daly also benched michael Jordan for the whole game cause there’s no way Jordan would’ve let that shit happen
Let's just say Michael took that loss personally
Imagine, future Hall of Famers coming off of the bench. Outstanding 🏀🏀🏀🏀
That shows the brilliance that was Chuck Daly.
The college players never played together either so that excuse doesn’t work
Don’t you dare compare today’s “dream team” to these guys
Let's make a dream team from today's players.
LeBron, Curry, KD, Kawhi, Giannis, Harden, Luka, Lilliard, Jokic, Embiid, Klay, and Beal.
I'm taking this team over the 92 dream team. They would shoot them out the gym
Just shows that no matter you got the best players play as a team, they won't win without teamwork
Coach K saying that is bullshit. The Dream Team got beat by the youngin’s but they learned their lesson.
They literally overlooked bird smh he easily was one of the best leaders of that team.
That's only because he took Michael Jordan out of the game I believe he single-handedly could have brought them back to win that game
Mike was in on it
SAS be like: First of all, it's a "Scrimmage" kid
Pippin startin'? nah you trippin'
"The coach had the score bord errased!"
Bruh they probbably turned it off no shit the score was gone
That college all-star team they played were no joke. They could have easily medaled at Barcelona as well.
a reminder to everybody that basketball is a team game that requires playing as a team to win
A Detroit LEGEND R.I.P. CHUCK D.
I'll never forget being six years old and dancing along to Magic Johnson during this Olympics.
Then they got that legendary scrimmage magic vs Jordan
Thats the reality of how good they really were.
Coach was a genius.
