The main components of wood are cellulose, a polysaccharide that constitutes about half of the total material, lignin (approximately 25%), which is a polymer resulting from the union of various acids and phenylpropyl alcohols and that provides hardness and protection, and hemicellulose (around 25%) whose function is to act as a union for the fibers. There are other minor components such as resins, waxes, fats and other substances. CELLULOSE It is a structural polysaccharide made up of glucose that is part of the plant cell wall. Its empirical formula is (C6H10O5)n, with the minimum value of n = 200.
