This made me nostalgic. I used to have a green ZRT 800 while my buddy had this blue SRX 700. The oil he used smelled like strawberrys and I can almost smell it through the screen lol. I remember both machines where pretty fast trail sleds but the SRX felt more nimble for sure. Fun times.

I have always had a soft spot for an SRX even as a cat guy. I had a chance to run a SRX engined sxr with a few mods this weekends and realized that I want to keep my CFR1k for the lakes and trails for sure. It wasn't a contest. But what an amazing sled. Both of them actually.

considering the SRX is down 300 cc to the T-cat, it did well. The SRX 700 was at the top of its class, it shamed most every other 700cc sled, (and many 800cc sleds. I owned the 98 T-Cat, and the 01 SRX, at the same time, both of these sleds were the fastest they each made for those models, the 98 cat had triple in triple out exhaust, and was the fastest T-Cat until the 4 strokes took over, gotta say the SRX was unbelievable for a 700, but on a lake, the T-Cat would just keep walking away and it was only somewhat close for about 600 feet, ran thundecats for 10 years as well as the SRX, nothing came close to the Cat, unless it was another T-Cat, stock engines, those sleds would go 118-120 out of the crate, and everything else was lucky to see 110 stock, I don’t care what your buddy said his speedo said, or uncalibrated radar gun said, I watched it for 10 years every weekend at radar runs, Yamaha made the RX1 and stock the first year they made them they barely hit 100, then all the guys started dumping stage 3 turbos and nitris on them and $20 k later they were in the 130’s then that was enough for me, I wasn’t going to spend that kind of money on a sled to win a trophy or a ribbon, and maybe a coupe hundred bucks, even now top prize is like $4000 the money these guys put into these sleds far outweigh what they win.

Yeah the last race when the srx got some traction it was holding its own very well to the Thundercat.
Not bad for the shitty stock 1.00 lug track and 300 less CC. Just goes to show with a good track and some basic mods these sleds were screamers. Keeping up with the big dogs.

The SRX lost by a hair , NOT because of the engine but, because of the skid !. Always the weak spot for Yamaha. The pro action link sucked !.I have an F7 and an SX Viper with clutch can and triple pipes and it winds out a hell of a lot better than my F7 Fighter Pilot but, can't put the torque and ponies to the ground efficiently.

Crashed Xl500 Cat all Ohlins 4 years ago. Handle bars crushed several ribs and ruptured my colon. Had a colostomy bag for 6 months. Bought a ported Viper after they put me back together. Some douche stole it when I was at the beer store getting warmed up. I should just probably buy a 1000 Thundercat and get it over with. Thats supposed to be sarcasm btw. I still have the shocks. Also sarcasm. This is not an advertisement. Kinda.Mmmmm. Snowmobiles

In my opinion the Mt max was a much better trail sled than Mt sled and better than the trail sleds of the time, with the 136 inch 2 inch track you had the traction that the triple 700 needs to accelerate, and with its relatively short track it handled great and was a rocket in straight lines, it did pretty well in the backcountry once you got used to the extra weight.
