To be fair...Smarties were founded in 1949 in New Jersey, and then the same company started manufacturing them in Toronto under the name Rockets...soooo Smarties are the OG. Love your videos!
Because the product name "Smarties" was already in use. The chocolate smarties have been around since 1937. :)
The idea of these is super cute. They kinda are. It's like they got almost there and went that's good enough. Sometimes companies try so hard to get in on a trend they rush. This is a perfect example of that.
Yep. But at the same time I hate those blind bag toys. Gambling for the kids trying to get that rare ones and to "collect them all". $$$ flowing for the toy companies.
I almost wonder if we’re running into an issue a la Kinder Egg here - they’re specifically only making products that are in the package (even if it results in a redundancy where you’re getting a mini packaged product holding even smaller of the same packaged products) to avoid any lawsuits for any of the food looking too “edible.” Because I can definitely see some kid swallowing plastic candy hearts and their parent getting sue happy because it looked like it was an actual candy heart, even if it clearly wasn’t given the theme of the toy.
Then that begs the question... why not make them not food or like the smarties, look wrapped???
Yeah, the packaging decisions scream lawsuit avoidance. lol.
I'm personally not super mad at the itty bitties sometimes being smaller versions of the packaging. It'd be awesome to get mini candies every time, but you still get cute packaged items for smaller dollhouses and such.

This was hilarious 😂 I loved Jackie roasting the minis. These were really disappointing. From what I can remember, the only ones that they did good were the lollipops and the smarties..and even the ice pops even if they were the same. At least they weren't a box inside a box. 🤣
Just a few thoughts while I remember:
Dum-Dums are smaller than your usual lollipops, and are round (at least I've never seen them in any other shape). They come in many delicious flavors in one bag.
You know those Sweethearts candies for Valentine's Day? They're made by the same people who make Necco Wafers, and are basically thicker, heart shaped Necco Wafers.
Bosco's, like Hershey's, syrups can be used for making chocolate and strawberry milk, besides being a topping for ice cream and other treats.
One time, you thought a milkshake was Black Forest flavored because it had a cherry on top. It's very common for there to be a cherry on top of the whipped cream on sundaes, banana splits, other ice cream treats, and sometimes milkshakes and drinks like that in the USA.
Otter Pops were fun when I was a kid. Each flavor had an otter character on the package.
Those Peanut Chews? I forget if caramel or something else is in them, but they're very chewy and horrible for your teeth.
You asked which is best, American or Canadian Smarties? I've never had Canadian Smarties (which sound like M&Ms), but as an American, I can assure you, American Smarties are the best! (They're a tart candy, in case you didn't know.)
You asked If we like sour candies. I love them, but I avoid them, because they eat away at my tongue, and it's sore and I'm miserable for a couple of days while it heals.
American smarties are not tart

On the plus side, the larger mini containers are good scale for 12" dolls and the tiny minis are the perfect size for Barbies!
So glad Jackie realised it's 6 minis in total, that drove me mad in the last video 😂 another thing, I think the dum dums pack is only the wrong way round because the lid is on upside down, so not a printing error after all. Still believe this set is lacking though
Part of the surprise is not knowing how many minis you will get for each product. You will always get 6 minis per package but the ratio is random. Example: 3 and 3 or 4 and 2.

In the uk 🇬🇧 we actually have the chocolate smarties (which are so good) and the “rockets, smarties” here are called fizzers 🍬 But it’s so great to know that most things here in the uk are international. Dum dums are actually also called chupa chups here too!!!! 😊😁 Sweethearts are also called lovehearts too 🥰

Hi Jackie! Canadian Smarties sounds like what we in the US call Sixlets. They aren’t super popular but they were my moms favorite so that’s how I know :)

Having had both sixlets and "Canadian" smarties, they're not really similar at all. The smarties are more like an M&M, both in quality and shape, but bigger, like the size of a peanut butter M&M, but entirely chocolate.
I have found smarties once in a while here in California; mostly at stores that specialize in imported foods, but there's also a movie theater near where I grew up that at least used to sell them as one of the candy options.

I think by now out of all these miniatures being dumpster fires, Jackie could have bought molds and made her own out of resin and paint.
In Mobile, Alabama they make a giant moonpie during Mardi gras and split it up to serve everyone. They also throw them off parade floats. I love moonpies

Jackie, as an American, we don't have the UK/Canadian Smarties here. While the US Smarties have both a New Jersey factory & Ontario factory, they did rename Smarties, Rockets because of trademark. HOWEVER, because of same said trademark, the UK/Canadian Smarties aren't sold here. Why don't they just rename them like they did Rockets & sell them here... not a clue. But... there you go.
The "surprise" Jackie is how salty these products will make you. They achieved that goal admirably.

The UK has the same smarties as Canada. But I think we call those chalky things 'fizzers' because they're usually slightly fizzy. We also have Lovehearts which have the cute messages on like your 'Sweet hearts' but ours are disks and made of similar stuff to the fizzers.
Only half way through the video the 5yo finished a full size chocolate bar that was meant for sharing with her friends and said "mama I don't want the mini anymore". I thank you for saving us money 😅
I absolutely love your kits but because I come from a low income household, I will never be able to get one and that upsets me but that's life, your one of my favourite youtubers and inspire me to draw every single day
Ok, this is gonna be a long one, bear with me!
1: I'm loving the kit, despite dislocated legs. Hoping to get the first one finished soon (at least in the sculpting stage!)
2: My favourite sweets as a kid were sherbet. Didn't matter how it came (penny straws, huge straws you got from Woolworths for 99p, Dib Dabs or Double Dips. I'd then put them all in a bowl together & eat them with a spoon!) but also Rainbow Drops coz I used to get them from the vending machine after swimming lessons
3: I love sour sweets, the stronger the better - Toxic Waste is my fav!
4: Smarties in the UK are the same as in Canada. The US version are called Fizzers
5: Sweethearts are Lovehearts in the UK. I think they weren't quite as suggestive when I was a little grain, but not 100% sure

Hmmm those smarties look more like Canadian smarties because the smarties in the US are very pale pastel colors with flat sides. They are like chalky candies. Not candy coated.

It seems to me (someone who has never even seen these in person) that you get 6 mini surprises.
From the videos it looks like you either get 3 and 3, or 4 and 2. Either way, from where I'm sitting it still adds up to 6... but again I could be wrong about that, I've never had these toys.
Tootsie Frooties were my favorite as a child. We had a local general store that would sell individual candy for a penny each and my friend and brother would gather up our change and ride our bikes there to get a little paper bag full. Oh the memories lol.

I concur Jackie, US Smarties were originally made in 1949 and Canadian Smarties were originally made in 1937 so they came first.
My favorite treat is the strawberry candy that all granny's and aunty's can find but you don't find anywhere

jackie,if you love the "real" smarties ,do you know the tiny version of them...great for cake decorations ...and you can get the tiny ones in little paperboxes with cute pictures on it...f.e different circusthemes....in germany we use them for childbirthdayparties as a give away,or as collectables or at least new painted or decorated for the adventcalender😊
Just have to throw in, love both craft kits. I hadn't really had a chance to more than look at the original, then the super arrived. Well, I decided to take them in to work (Adult Day Health Center, most of the clients I work with are non-verbal and/or wheelchair-bound) and we had a ball. Successfully molded two of the original figure and one 4-legged (well, 3 legs stayed on getting it out) and then used the airbrush to paint a Baba Yaga hut. Hoping to decorate the figures this week. I'll let you know if they put any of the pictures up on the website, but I can't share them.

Got to be honest, the Peanut Chews are actually packaged that way, depending on the size of the package. Each Peanut Chew is an individually wrapped nugget of peanuts and caramel coated in chocolate. The individual chews are packed in larger boxes or bags. The ones in the bags are usually individually wrapped, and the boxes are shaped like, well, boxes.
It’s why they’re called minis in minis , They’re all the wrappers and boxes of the thing inside it. A mini version of the mini. It’s not the actual thing

The new chupa chups from shopkins are sooo cute!
UK Smarties are like Canadian Smarties but we get cool packaging. They currently come in a hexagonal card tube but when I was a little grain they were WAY cooler they came in a cylindrical tube with a plastic lid that had a raised letter on the inside so you could collect the letters. Tubes also had a question like "an animal" that had to begin with the letter on the lid.
The Canadian smarties are the same in the Netherlands. So a agree with you!!

So you asked about Necco Wafers…..they are fairly popular here, well for my (54f) childhood they mean something 😊 Smarties similar to Sweet Tarts…..I think that I have had Smarties from Canada, and they are similar to M&M’s here in the US
The smarties from canada look like a different shape for sixlets. Sixkets are little chocolate spheres with a candy shell. I love them
It’s not inconsistent. It is perfectly consistent with their packaging which tells you that you get 6 miniature mini pieces (total). If the bigger piece has 2 inside, you get 4 inside the other. If one has 3 inside, the other will also have 3.
I imagine M&Ms have such a hold on candy coated chocolate in the US that we just never see other brand names of that type of candy.
