  • Many of you will do the famous "Fira to Oia" hike (aka "Caldera Trail") when in Santorini. It's easy to get lost however, since there aren't many indications. But this video is here to help :-)

A fabulous hike thanks to Sebastian, it’s definitely not a walk but it was made a lot easier with your guidance and good humour. As a group of 7 we all agreed that it was the highlight of our trip to Santorini. We highly recommend this hike, it’s not too hard if your reasonably fit.
Your the knowledge of the local area, the history and all your tips on how to get around Santorini made our holiday memorable.

ευχαριστώ Sebastian.. I was in Santorini this week (March) and hiking from Fira to Oia based on your video.. I took a rest at St Markos church with a great view of both side of santorini coast (referring to your video at around the 6th min) as well as the church at the top if 3rd hill... it was sunshine and very windy but I enjoy it. And as it is a low season, I was completely alone hiking from Fira to Oia..

Another excellent video. We just did this hike a few days ago starting from Caldera’s Memories hotel and I think this video gives the most clear and helpful outline of the hike. This can certainly be challenging in some points with the loose, cobblestone and rocky trail. It would be too easy to twist an ankle on a lose rock if you are not paying attention on the downhills. The day we did it was super windy so hold onto your hats!!
Once you get to the little all white church you can go up to the right behind the yellow building for some great photos of the church overlooking the caldera.
It took us a while to finish the hike as we stopped for photos and resting a bit along the way. It took us 3 hours without the Fira and Imerovigli sections starting about halfway along, so unless you plan of walking past everything and not stopping at all it will take longer than 3 hours to do the whole thing in my opinion.
    Great stuff. Thanks Sebastian!!

I am wondering if you decided to return after 40% hike and take the bus to Fira terminal (but have to go to Oia bus terminal first as you stated), then will you be charged €2 as 1 fare (despite not getting off the bus at Oia terminal waiting to depart for Fira terminal destination) or it will be counted as €4 as 2 fares?

The sight of those two other big hills on the path was too much. Stunning views nonetheless. Next time will attempt to start from Imerovigli instead.

We are still pondering after doing the 60% hike,
    1) From the video 7:22 where you said you can stop the hike and go back by bus, how long is 40% remaining if we opt to keep walking to Oia? 1 hour? 30 min?
    2) Is it worth the remaining hike given we will be in Oia at the first few days and that time is limited? Or you recommend to go all the way if we can?
    3) What time do you recommend to start (end of Sep/early Oct) in the morning?? Because we also want to return back to Fira in time for cable car and walk around if have time (given time will be tight for us)
    4) Is Skaros Rock worth it? How long extra do we need to allow hike as well (and then keep on going from Fira to Oia)? 1 hour? 2 hours?
    Thank you again!

    • @GreeceExplained
      @GreeceExplained  Před rokem +2

      1) 1 hour
      2) If you're on a tight schedule, I wouldnt do it. You will already have seen gorgeous views, the remaining 40% wont be very different.
      3) Start 5-6 hours before the moment you want to be back at the cable car.
      4) No
