NorthLight (G5 aurora borealis over Colorado, May 10th, 2024)

First Wave. G5. Dark, calm, and clear. Stayed up late shooting pictures, video, and time-lapse from the amazing first night of the aurora borealis, the Northern Lights, on May 9th, 2024. Eastern Colorado. The show was almost non-stop, and ever-evolving!
The song is of course home-brewed as well, the first half of an experiment... I recorded it about a month back or so, using two Halo handpans made by Pantheon Steel. The pans are (C)Limoncello and (E)Golden Arcadia. I also used a Korg ESX-1 groovebox, Fender P-bass, and my cajon/brushes drumset.
My camera is a Sony a6400. A few shots from the Sony kit lens, but most are from a wide-angle Rokinon lens. Also some iPhone 13 shots in there. Most exposures are about 2-4 seconds, with outliers from 10 seconds to a quarter second.
I also uploaded a brighter version, but this one is far less processed and I like it more. There is more processing on the time-lapse ones that clearly show a repeat, and they show the raw footage first, but then also show a yellow tint version, and a blue tint version, but not always in that order, and then maybe a pass with some extra effects added like saturation and contrast or brightness. The different exposure times melt together nicely in the photo transitions, giving a lifelike movement at times, almost better than the actual timelapse versions.
It was an amazing night and I was learning a lot about how to shoot this phenomena as the night progressed... There is also some raw VIDEO footage in there where you can see the movement and "flashes" of the aurora, but it was very difficult to capture and I was having too much fun with the long exposures.
A totally unforgettable night! This was shot in Northeastern Colorado. Thanks for watching.
