I don’t like to throw around the term “favorite band” too much because I hate choosing favorites, but Kreator is dang close to being my favorite band. They pretty much helped me survive my senior year of high school and they’re a very sentimental band for me. I got the chance to see them live last week with Sepultura and Death Angel and it was a dream come true for me! But anyway, that’s enough rambling, here’s my ranking with scores out of 10. I went through all their albums recently and rated each song and averaged them out to get the album scores. Great video by the way!
    15. Renewal - 6.4
    14. Outcast - 6.4
    13. Cause For Conflict - 6.8
    12. Endorama - 7.1 (I for one really dig this album)
    11. Hordes of Chaos - 7.9
    10. Violent Revolution - 8.2
    9. Hate Uber Alles - 8.2
    8. Endless Pain - 8.4
    7. Terrible Certainty - 8.5
    6. Enemy of God - 8.5
    5. Pleasure To Kill - 8.5
    4. Coma of Souls - 8.8
    3. Gods of Violence - 8.8
    2. Phantom Antichrist - 8.9
    1. Extreme Aggression - 9 (one of my all time favorite album)

Cool ranking. Band really was incredibly consistent up to early 90's and then returned to being more consistent in mid 00's. Also hot take but I actually like Endorama. I'm generally more gothic metal guy than thrash guy.

A few years back I had a major spinal cord injury and it was a long, hard road to learn to walk again. Through all that, Destroy What Destroys You off of Hordes of Chaos was my power mantra that kept me going. Just saw Kreator a couple weeks ago, and they still destroy every time.

Just discovered your channel... nice ranking, I pretty much agree with what you said. I always loved Coma of Souls, because back in 1990, this was the Album I discovered Kreator with, when I was a Teenager (omg!). I pretty much enjoyed their last ALbums from Enemy of God to Gods of Violence. I was a bit disappointed about Hate über alles, although it is quite solid. Anyway: Great review, cool video

I have a soft spot for Renewal. It came out the same year as Ministry's Psalm 69. And I f*cking loved that record. I was surprised to hear that Kreator kinda ventured into this terrain and I could relate. I'd give it happily a 3.5 out of 5.

Though is saying that, first 2 albums are just goated imo, their really fun. Pleasure took me awhile to get into since I preferred Sodom (still do) and used to view kreator as a weaker Sodom, but I've grown to love pleasure a lot now, it's a very fun death-thrash album

For me, Kreator’s best material came after terrible certainty as while it is extreme, I will take more tight & melodic sound they started with extreme aggression (and went back to in the 2000s) really weird that one of the most uncompromising thrash bands became debatably the best songwriters and melodic bands of the revival era but I couldn’t be happier that it was them.

  • @DamnableReverend

These guys were my favourite German thrash for a long time. I thinka t some point for me they did get eclipsed in my listening by Sodom, but of course I still really enjoy kreator. They always seem fully commited to what they're doing and MIlle's vocals sound like they really hurt him live. Not totally into the melodeath-ish-sounding stuff (but ti's still pretty commendable) and I wish albums out Outcast and Endorama were better -- I respect them but don't enjoy them much, pretty much for the reasons you mentioned. My favourites have always been Pleasure to Kill and Extreme Aggression. The latter was the first one I heard. "Some Pain will Last" still blows my mind.
It seems like every time something changes in the guitar realm there's a bit of a change in the band's sound. I think they've had the same lead guitarist now since Violent Revolution, so everything since then has sort of sounded like a development of that approach.
Terrible Certainty is an odd one -- first Kreator album with a second guitarist and he was only there for the one album. The solos all sound out of tune with Mille and it bugs me more than the crazy stuff Mille played on PTK. It's clearner too but also less heavy. Extreme Aggression they were back to just Mille on guitar (I think) and yet it's so much better.

I will always defend ENDORAMA. If you are familiar with earlier German alternative rock/metal scene and bands like LACRIMOSA or XMal DEUTSCHLAND ,you can definitely understand this album better. It is just...a different type of music and I am glad the band has a record like this in the catalog.

I love their early stuff, unpolished, raw, innovative, I saw them in New Haven, CT on the Extreme Aggression tour with Coroner in the late 80's. It was awesome...there were some fights with some skinheads throughout the show that came to cause trouble, but other than that it was an epic show. The mid to late 90's were forgettable and highly experimental...they have been pretty consistent since the early 2000's using a formula that works....great live band to this day!!

Terrible Certainty was my gateway-record into Kreator. I was always more into the more melodic and progressive form of Thrash metal, especially early on, and this album had just enough hooks and polish - and compositional quality - to win me over at that stage of my journey. I love that album.
Since then I of course love all of their early stuff up-to-and-including Coma of Souls. The 90's made me lose sight of them, but they had a nice return to form in the 2000's (starting shyly with Violent Revolution, then in full force with Enemy of God) and since then they've held high form although none of their newer albums gained my feverish obsession like their earlier stuff (where listening to them gave you that deliciously evil feeling, like you are probably tainting your soul with darkness just listening to it, unleashing demons in your room, but you don't CARE lol!). Like old 70's horror movies, those earlier thrash albums have this inherent sinister feeling to them that feels kind of lost in the newer albums.
