The guy singing at the end is George Michael. He did the backing vocals
"Bennie and the Jets" has a unique groove you can't miss, and "Rocket Man" and "Levon" are two of the most beautiful pop-rock songs of all time.
One of my favorites. Had you lived through the Cold War, you would've understood the meaning behind the song and the video.
"Oh Nikita you will never know anything about my home" before the end of the Cold War hits differently lol, also when you hear George Michael's back up vocals and falsetto at the end of the song (RIP). It's an 80's Elton John classic, my mom loved it back in the day đ
Elton John playing straight.
With Nikita being a male name in Russia, he wasnât disguising much except in the video.
One of my faves from sir Elton.
You missed the back vocals of George Michael at the end đą
I absolutely love this often overlooked song! One of my favorites of his.
Oh yeah!!! Elton John is my long time favorite and hero â€â€â€â€â€
he had 3 decades of success (Bernie Taupin wrote many of his hits).. each decade had unique qualities (70s, 80s, 90s) as he proceeded through these phases.
Some of the smoothest and most wonderful vocals he has ever done. Maybe not his greatest song, but a really fun one with just some of his best singing ever. Helped by Goerge Michael at the end.
DudeâŠSalâŠâŠElton talks about â the wallâ. Itâs Berlin. The Berlin Wall. Heâs passing back and forth from Eastern To Western Berlin. Sheâs an East German soldier. Itâs bemusing to watch this and know that that wall would come down in just a few yearsâŠin 1989.
I stayed up late that watching the wall come down on ABC's Nightline. I just can't get over how it has now been long enough that few young people know much if anything about this.
@@billallen1307 I know, right? It takes me aback that they donât know
â@billallen1307 The youngers are more interested in "likes" on social media for the virtue & deciding if they male on Monday or a woman by Saturday. Just sayingđ€·đ»
@@jamesmorrison4581 yes, but itâs also the fault of our schools. They donât teach history or much of anything of substance it seemsâŠ.
@helenespaulding7562 Absolutely correct. Unfortunately teachers also have their OWN agenda too.
80s my dear lovely song, great reaction, thanks
this was a cold war era song west vs russia
Nothing has changed then infact alot more dangerous world Trump Putin Global Warming nothing to concern us!
When you scrolled right past the list of musicians, I thought, oh no, he's going to miss who else is on this song. Luckily you picked up on George doing the backing vocals. But no curiosity over who this Nik Kershaw fellow was, with his Wikipedia link?
Well, he's only one of the best 80s singer/songwriters in my opinion. Very distinctive style of playing and singing, great hooks. I saw him once, opening for Elton at Wembley. He's still recording and performing to this day.
Suggestions:
Wouldn't It Be Good
Nobody Knows
The Riddle
You Might
Bogart
In addition, the border guard who snatches Elton's passport from Anya Major's hand is Andreas Wisniewski, who went on to play a memorable baddie in my favourite James Bond film, The Living Daylights.
Aw yes, this was a huge hit over here in the Netherlands. Great song and great reaction.
This song has a sick bass line đ„
Good song!
The other romantic one he does The One is fantastic.
He performs songs with such power and honesty.
great reaction! May I suggest another Elton John song?
Nice! My favorite Elton John Song. You should do Pamela or Tale Of A Man from Toto soon.
đŹđ§ "Sacrifice" 1989, by EJ is a beautiful song that I think you will really like. đđŒđ¶đŹđ§đșđČ
Do his Freddie Mercury tribute â€
Yes more George Michael and also Nik Kershaw a singer in his own right.
Someone left a comment on this video of another reactors reaction that 1. Nikita is a man's name and 2. That Elton had an affair with a man during his Russian concerts in 1979. Seems plausible, except that Elton John almost never suggests subject material to Bernie Taupin, and Bernie writes the lyrics first before Elton writes the music, so the ideas for the songs come completely from Bernie Taupin - Elton has nothing to do with the subject material or the titles or the lyrics. So we don't know who if anyone this song is about. Interesting theory though.
You gave the chart position of the ALBUM, but you didn't give the chart position of the SINGLE of "Nikita". The single reached #7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It did even better in a number of other countries. It was on heavy rotation on MTV and got loads of airplay.
I revisited it at the end of the video, and went to the single page and saw
I liked this one at first but, honestly, they played it SO much on Mtv that it got old fast. Personally, I like his older songs.
Fun fact: Nikita is actually a boys name⊠oops!
Please do Sacrifice from EJ, beautiful slow song đšđŠđș
Ya know... it's a shame. I remember we were kinda stoked when Regan and Gorbachev sorta settled things down a little. Then Putin had to screw it all up. Nice little song.
I remember the wall coming down. THAT was really exciting!! I miss the easiness of those days. Society is exhausting now. đ
In Russia, Nikita can be male or female.
As in Nikita Khrushchev
Well, that applies to anyone nowadays đ
â@@helenespaulding7562 Typically when Nikita is used in Russia for a female she is of Russian heritage. If it's used for a male in Russia he is usually of Greek/Russian descent.
Yes, Elton John could have depicted his love interest in the video as being male... But then MTV would have probably banned it!
@@JohnDoe-lt8fd Exactly
Such a cheesy video for such a beautiful song.
