  • I had a few people ask me if they can power their Fire TV Stick 4K or the 4K Max using the TVs USB port and would it be safe to do so. In this video I will be explaining the pros and cons of doing so, and how to properly connect your Fire TV device without risking damaging it. Also, at the end of the video, I included a little glitch that I saw after I installed the last update.

    Nice crystal clear video!
    P.S. And some CZcamsrs wonder why some people want to be able to BLOCK Updates from Amazon!
    I don't care about using 3rd-party Launchers personally, but I'm ...
    1.) Sick of their bloatware sucking up more and more of the tiny amount of storage they so generously give us!
    2.) As often as their Updates fix anything (often nothing as far as you can tell) ... they frequently BREAK things (as the end of your video elegantly demonstrates). And in this case, on TWO separate OS's!
    And they can't even be bothered to make public exactly what each update is supposed to accomplish! Likely because it is purely for THEIR benefit, NOT the customers.
    AND they rarely admit fault on top of it!
    So, having the ability (and choice) to block updates (not necessarily permanently) could have protected you from their breaking stuff.
    In this case, you could have updates blocked and when they break stuff, you would be protected.
    Then, once you heard from the community that they finally got around to fixing the problem, THEN you could UNBLOCK the updates (if you were good with that) and never have had to suffer their greedy incompetence!
    Just an opinion.

    • @DJsTutorials
      @DJsTutorials  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you Big Kahuna! I totally agree with you. It would be nice to know what each update does include like when you get an update with the Nvidia Shield. It states all the bug fixes and enhancements they added. But then again, that's Nvidia not Amazon. Amazon can barely keep up fixing issues never mind finding time to include a log with bug fix with every update they release each week almost! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with all of us. I'm sure a lot of people will agree with you and feel the same!

    The answer is I want to upgrade my tv, reason is that the OG Chromecast is like upgrading you're tv. With a extra plug it becomes a extra device, same as using 2 remotes.
    I need that thing then I think....I bought a Google but didn't open it, since I can order a Amazon 2 for cheaper.

      A 3.0 port will power it without needing the extra power. The only question to you will be, does it power if the TV is off? If the USB stays powered on while the TV is off you are good the way it is.

    Would you still be able to add something like a usb hub for sd cards and usb use. Game controller/ keyboard ecc. If you just ran the hub through the MC idk if that puts strain on the battery. Even if you use a splitter your still pulling power from TV.

    • @DJsTutorials
      @DJsTutorials  Před rokem +1

      You can connect a USB dongle by using an OTG cable to use with a keyboard since it does not draw as much power or a thumb drive to the OTG cable (depending on the thumb drive size you use). I tested it with a 64GB drive connected to a FS 4K Max with no issues and did not get a message when I checked for any updates. I would not recommend connecting a USB hub though. Between the hub and the devices you connect to it, you will be drawing more power than the USB and battery can provide.

    I was looking for a method to keep my USB "always on" when I stumpled across this video. I have had a Firestick 4K purchased from Amazon plugged directly into my USB on my Sony TV for six months, and never had any issues. I hate seeing cords visible from TV's, and that is the reason I chose to plug directly into TV and not a wall outlet. (TV is mounted high above fireplace). I wish my USB was "always on" because there is about a 15-30 second delay when I turn on my TV until I can use the firestick, which I assume due to the power stick "powering down" and then needing some time to power back up

    • @DJsTutorials
      @DJsTutorials  Před 10 měsíci +1

      The majority of people connect the Fire Stick to the USB port for the same exact reason you do, and there is nothing wrong with that. Yes there is that possibility to turn off the TV when there is an update being installed but then again what are the chances? One good thing about connecting it to the USB port is that you are restarting it every day which makes the Fire Stick start with a fresh boot each time. Thank you for sharing with us! Much appreciate it!

    • @DJsTutorials
      @DJsTutorials  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No it will not damage your TV. Only has to do with the performance of the Fire Stick. You could add that USB Power Cable by Mission Cables (which is on sale for $17.99 right now) that I showed in the video to help the Fire Stick get enough power when it needs it. You can look it up on Amazon or you can use my affiliate link if you want. I personally would recommend using it but that's your call.

    Hello and thank you for the tutorial I came to this channel on how to set up my fire stick on my new Samsung TV 2019 model the fire stick that I have is the Firestick 3rd generation 3rd generation Amazon voice which I won’t be using so my questions would be No 1 since I have a Firestick 3rd generation model can I plug in my fire stick behind the TV by way of USB and HMDI only behind the TV without using the USB cord plugged into the wall because it is a little short? (and or I can stream through my cable cord holder possible.. if I can do so without using the wall plug. Will I experience the con-issues you explained in the video? I don’t I have the TV on all day or every day throughout the week. I just had the TV mounted and realized that I have the fire stick that I purchased a few months ago? And I also wanted it for the aesthetic i didn’t want cords hanging, but again, I do have a cable cord cover that may work if I can stretch that cord long enough through the cable holder and into the wall but I’d rather be able to install the fire stick on the back of the TV without having to use the wall. Pls advise or Let me know if I need to find another channel being that my fire stick is not a for Max but a 3rd generation fire stick.. Ty 🎉

    • @DJsTutorials
      @DJsTutorials  Před rokem +1

      Hi! Even though you have the 3rd gen Fire Stick, it still requires the same amount of power as the 4K Max (5V - 1 amp). You will be able to power it from the USB port of your TV but, all the cons that I mention in the video about doing so, will still apply for the 3rd gen also. If you want, you can buy a longer USB cable so you can power the Fire Stick from the outlet and not have to worry about enough power or cutting the power when there is an update. If not, you will still be able to use the Fire Stick and the odds of cutting the power to it while its updating are 50-50.

      Not sure if you are asking about using the TVs USB port only or using the Power Adapter to install the updates? If your TV provides enough power you will be fine to install updates. If you get the message that there is not enough power, you can still install the update but it may have issues. No you will not have any power issues with the USB port that you have powering the Xiaomi Stick. One good thing about the Xiaomi is, it doesn't install the updates like the Fire Stick does in the background. It usually lets you know that there is an update to install. That way, you don't have to worry that you are going to brick your Xiaomi stick when you turn off the TV since the USB port that the TV has turns off with the TV.
