Kaela D When I play as Lavellan I get so torn between the two. On one hand I got sweet, romantic Cullen. On the other hand I got a elf who is as smooth as his bald head calling me Vhenan.
I always try and start a relationship with Solas. But then I panic, cause I want my character to have a happy ending with someone and don't end up alone. And I always go for Cullen as back up. The story with him isn't as grand as the story with Solas, but at least I get a happy marriage out of it. (And let's be honest, Cullen is a real sweetheart.)

@LizPlays I doubt it. We'll get a cameo at most. Considering how Lavellan (and every other Inquisitor) ended up after Trespasser, she's not able to fight anymore, in most classes. Although I guess it would be cool!
@30 Nights Insomniac There are ways around that, though. Prosthetic (magical or otherwise); go the dual protagonist route and have the former Inquisitor only take on certain missions that aren't combat oriented; etc. There's a good chance they won't do it, but there are options.
@@AlleluiaElizabeth Till now DA's history has been to introduce new PCs and cast old PCs off the screen (Hero) or as cameo (Hawke). I don't think we will get any better deal than that. For Hero though, Bioware had good reasons to not cast them even as cameo.
I've noticed how Solas change with every kiss. 18:55 - He almost has a playful look on his face when he realizes he enjoyed it and wants more. After the kisses his reaction is rather light. "Oh right, we shouldn't do this. Time to wake up." 33:50 - He has realized how much he care for Lavellan. He's struggling with himself to stay on path with his bigger goal. Yet, his feelings are so strong he can't resist. 43:30 - Literally overwhelmed by love. It has taken root far deeper than he could imagine. And it's with great sadness he knows he has to end it to prevent her from getting hurt. (Everytime he calls her *vhenan* my heart skips a beat. It's as if, because he can't show her his love, he puts it all into that word. And you can hear it. Just heart breaking)

Funny thing, I started and never completed Cullen’s romance because I felt it was too corny/he didn’t fit with my inquisitor. Made a new save file, new character, and romanced Solas instead. I think this is what we call one of those *over-corrections* ;_;
Same. I tried to romance Solas in my 2nd play through, but Cullen and his shy smiles were too powerful. I came here to see what it's like to have your heart broken by a wolf boy.

@@katehaha5504 Thinking back on it now, I think the bigger issue was that Cullen was just _boring._ I hooked my inquisitor up with Josephine after dumping him, and her romance is CORNY AS *HELL.* And they looked perfect together :D
It's probable that she was never in the room to begin with. My guess is that their minds somehow "bumped into one another" in the Fade while they were dreaming, and that Solas controlled the environment from there on, Inception-style.
Rather late to the party however I dunno if it's just me but was anyone else slightly weirded out by the whole Fade/Dream convo? It's like come on dude your just going to mess around and see if she notices their in the Fade?

It's mostly because he didn't want to sleep with you while lying to you about so much. Unlike a certain not-bald companion who sleeps with you and then up and disappears because he felt bad about the lie.
@@cairrean2412 well he didn't necessarily not sleep with you. "I would not lay with you under false pretences" could mean "I would not do it to manipulate you. I did it because I love you". It's written to be ambiguous so you can decide whether they did or not.

I can swallow all of his backstory, and I get it. What kills me is how he trusted everyone in his spy network, but did not trust you. It cuts deep, man.
@@seanmason9215 Yeah this is a good point, I believe it's been shown in the side stories that he will kill any of his agents who don't follow his orders without hesitation, but he would let the inquisitor argue him into agreeing with doing things differently... sometimes we don't even have to argue him into it, we can just say say his name and he will walk away instead of killing the group of idiot mages who very directly caused the death of a dear friend of his. It's less that he doesn't trust us not to betray him and more that he trusts us to have more sway over him than he is comfortable with.
Yes save every mission so you can choose every choice and be an ass and a good person at the same time that's what I've done for all games I've played like this. I must say it is painful because it makes me feel like an ass too cuz I don't like being an ass to video game character's for some reason

I love the way Solas speaks. It's sometimes in Iambic pentamiter - shakespearean rythem that follows the syllable pronouncation. It's following a heart beat rythem. Amazing, no wonder he broke my heart.
The voice actor has classical theatre training, so that is exactly what you're hearing! The lines from 0:0:19 to 0:0:32 are particularly beautiful, the way he gently lingers on the s in "past" is just lovely.
It's not quite iambic pentameter, but it's iambic something for sure. It's the same metre found in the song Hallelujah, which had a big effect on his writer apparently (source: they did an interview somewhere!) What gets me is that sometimes one of the conversation choices comes out in the same metre, and all of a sudden it's like the two of you are in sync with the way each other's minds work. Magic.

So many of his conversations take on serious double meaning post trespasser. His thoughts on you taking the well and its power... How you figure out where you went wrong and try again. He really is Varric's perfect villain.

Aaand the with me, but I'm actually glad I spoiled it for myself. I came here after the first romance scene because I wanted to know if he was playing hard to get for something relatively minor, just so we can get the broody 'I can't...' experience. I had got the impression that he was going to be the smart but annoying elfy elf with elfy sorrow. Well he IS that, and that IS my type. But I do sometimes get bored of it. I would have picked someone else if that had been all he was. Turns out I'd stumbled onto (IMO) the most plot-complementary romance. Multiple PTs in, and it is still my favourite, and my canon. I'm so happy I got to do it as my first experience of the game.
The fact this whole romance is as complex as it is amazes me. What sticks out though is the removal of the vallaslin: by removing the marks of other gods, it basically makes the Inquisitor sworn to Fen’Harel. It’s highkey like a permanent wedding ring for Solas that Lavellan doesn’t know about until Trespasser. The implications that Solas did bed the Inquisitor are also there and I wish Bioware would give us DA4 already so we can see the beloved egg in his full glory.
although isnt the most happy romance it is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt ones in this game. solas is my favourite character and romance in the series
I wasnt a fan of this romance as without the DLC so much is left out. But that part about him watching her in her in her dreams was heart wrenching. What a way to set up the bad guy for the next game though. Damn good writing.
The way he says "I know, vhenan" when you tell him the Anchor is getting worse, it just gets me every time 😭😭 He really cares about Lavellan and it pains him so much to see her suffer, knowing that she'll die.

I have a theory that if it was possible to romance him as a human it would have been like twice as deep. Like this ancient elven god who wants to destroy the world who falls for someone he never cared about before.
And the dwarves were just like deepstalkers to the Elvhen people because they tried to defend their creators, the Titans, which the Elves would destroy for their power. Imagine if he fell in love with a woman who his people considered pests.
More so if Qunari or dwarf. Solas hated/looked down on both, and it'd mean so much more if he fell in love with one. Imagine: Solas falling in love with a Qunari, when he hates the Qun, or a dwarf, when dwarves cannot even dream or use magic.
Solas was an interesting, intellectual, and smooth elf. He tried loving me, but knowing everything he was doing he didn't stay. Then all of this! I really hope they give him a beautiful and happy ending well deserving for all the shit he went through. ESPECIALLY ME! WTF!

In Trespasser, Solas is clearly trying to justify to himself and to you, that his ends actually do justify the means - when that isn’t the case. If he can’t see it already, then he’s not exactly romance material. Although, I’ll admit I’m one of the people that doesn’t care if I kill or they let us convince him - I chose Cullen instead.
I think the part that broke my heart the most (no DLCs) was the fact that my Lavellan had to stand on that balcony completely by herself. It was so sad to me

My excitement for Dragon Age 4 is only rivaled by my fear that we won't be able to save/redeem him. I also could not believe how much this romance pulled me in during my playthrough and devastated me by the end. I kept thinking, "I'm a rational adult, and this is a fantastic fantasy game that shouldn't dominate my day-to-day." *listens to Lost Elf at work and practically bawls at my desk*
Such a powerful and amotionally draining romantic story... Extraordinary character. Simply fantastic. After all this time i'm still waiting DA4. Patrick Weekes created something special. I hope we'll save him. Definitely need this option.
I love Iron Bull, Solas and Cullen romance. Each really means something to me because each of them represents a significant lesson in your life. Iron Bull romance represent teacher who encourage you to do the impossible, overcoming big challenges (killing dragons & such) but he ultimately don’t stay with you. Solas romance represent a soulmate, someone who you have a deep connection with but the relationship doesn't work out and you have to let him go and to this day you still can't get over him. And finally Cullen romance, someone who need you to apply what you learn from the previous relationships to help him overcome his own demons, and in the end he loves you and wants to be with you no matter what. I have yet to find a Cullen but I have had the other 2... Not saying which is better than the other, I love them all, they are all great romances.
That last scene they shared is full of so much love and tenderness. It's so clear how much they love each other and how much it's breaking his heart... LIKE IT'S BREAKING MINE.

Storytime! I NEVER would have been able to finish Dragon Age Inquisition if I hadn't spoiled Solas's whole story and romance for myself before ever playing the game. That probably sounds pretty backwards, and it is, but I just need to share how Solas pretty much became responsible for my investment in DAI AND Dragon Age as a whole. Basically, I spoiled myself years ago on some random day while I was perusing random game footage on CZcams just for curiosity's sake. I only picked one Dragon Age video (can't remember if it was this one), and it happened to be a similar compilation of all Solas's romance scenes. I had no idea what DA was, who this egghead was, or why he seemed to betray the MC at the end of the compilation. But that ending bit was at least a little interesting to me. Feeling bored, I clicked off thinking I'll never buy such an ugly-looking game, and never thought about DA again until 2019. When I bought Inquisition cause I found a copy at a pawn shop for 10 bucks XD Yes, I played the series backwards on accident ;_; And leaping into Inquisition proved to be VERY overwhelming cause I had *absolutely no idea what the balls was going on.* And I almost quit the game within the first hour because of it. Until, ENTER THE BALD ELF that I only barely remembered from CZcams all that time ago. And I do mean I BARELY remembered, except for that one specific bit about him betraying the MC. Still had no context and no idea WHY he did, but he quickly became my favorite character because I couldn't stop trying to figure out the mystery :D Literally, he fueled my entire first (successful) playthrough. I say successful because my first character was a human who wasn't very interesting, I tried again with an elf who was way cooler and had much more success talking to Solas. (Solas practically hated my human D:) The first few convos between Solas and my Lavellan tho... I got tons of disapproval from them cause I had no fuggin clue what a Dalish elf was or why he disliked them. One convo went SO sour that I stopped the game, got my laptop, and researched Dalish lore for like 2 HOURS. And I *LOVED IT.* The Dalish sounded like the coolest bunch of tree huggers ever, and I could finally understand what Solas was trying to say about them. From then on, whenever Solas was rambling about something I didn't get, (the fade, especially) I'd go on a lore binge. (Careful to avoid spoilers) The more I learned, the more I could genuinely enjoy his dialogue AND the rest of the game. So yeah, I'm not usually a lore junkie, but because I was so curious about who Solas really was, I taught myself about the world so I'd understand more about him. And that led to FURTHER lore digging about dwarves and qunari and templars and the chantry, etc. I fell DEEP down the rabbit hole, man. If I went into the game knowing _zero_ about him or any other character, I'm sure I would've avoided that rabbit hole entirely and never given the game (or the rest of the series) a real chance. TLDR: Solas indirectly became my teacher about all things Dragon Age. And also my Lavellan's boyfriend, forgot to mention that bit :D
This is almost exactly what this video did for me! I've always been a lore junkie but this fuelled it to new heights, to the point where I decided to stop partway through and play through the first two games for context reasons. Sidenote, but it's interesting to look back on how I went into them with totally different opinions because of all the blood magic/spirit conversations (and talking to Inquisition Cullen!) My story is entirely different. I played played all three games back when they all first came out starting from Origins, then 2, and finally Inquisition. So when Solas started talking about all these things I knew what he was talking about, and it was nice to hear an even more in depth explanation about things I only had a general knowledge of. But there were also things he talked about that I didn’t understand, mainly due to never reading the freaking comics, so as a lore junky I had to dive deep to figure out what he meant on some things. I always liked learning so I found Solas interesting as he was the most knowledgeable character in the franchise.
Same for me. No idea what DA was. Saw this romance video on CZcams about an ugly egg guy with a hot voice. I ended up falling in love with that egg he Broke my heart and now I’ve read all the lore played the games and dying to play DA. Honestly I can’t even look at real men anymore they are all so boring compared to this elven god.
For a long time I loved Zevran's romance. I romanced Fenris, but he didn't top Zevran. First time with Inquisition, I did Cullen. Was cute, but Zevran still topped him. Then after a few years I played the game again and tossed in the DLCs out of curiosity. Tried for Cullen but then I made the mistake of romancing Solas instead..... The bloody elf topped Zevran! He pushed Zevran down to 2nd place as my romance favourites. It suprised me that I adored his romance while also it being painful. Now I struggle to not romance him
Solas could tell me stories 24/7 and I wouldn't get bored. That's actually how he won me over. When I saw his first official art I didn't like him at all (don't like the idea of bald elves), I was set to romance Cullen or Bull. Short story, I never romanced the other two. All of my Inqisitors are ether charmed or crush on him in my plays. I know the devs didn't add his romance until much later, but I like thinking that this was a deep asexual romance, something that was supposed to be built on trust (damn it EGG). I guess this is why THAT scene hurt me so much. I put actual roots of feelings into this character and got burned for it

I really love how passsionate and sad his romance is. Every kisses, he is so in need of love, like waiting to unleashed. I love that our Inki just completely shake his world. I can't decide if I'm happy I went for Cullen in my first playthrough or sad x) I can't wait for DA 4, I want to know in which direction their relation would go so badly! I know why we have a new hero in the next game and not the inquisitor, but the ties with the inquisitor and Solas, especially if you romance him, is so interesting. He’s such an interesting anti hero and I can’t even be mad that he’s trying to kill everyone tbh 😭
I love rewatching this and pointing out the little hints littered all over the place. My fave this time: the confident rancor in Solas's voice when he says that real gods don't need to prove it, and that all of Corypheus's wilding out would be his downfall. THINKING OF THE EVANURIS MUCH?
After reading fan fiction "Only Time Will Tell" by TartanWriting, some of these scenes do look as though Solas remembers Lavellan from his past... Ah my heart.
Still to this day I still love Solas! After rewatching this I understand why he did it but I hope for a happy ending in the next game.. Favorite Love Interest
Seeing as Trespasser released while the "none pizza with left beef" was still relevant my best friend looked me dead in the eye one day and was like "none Solas with left stump" and I died a little.
My very first playthrough was a Lavellan with a very small, light, skin-colored vallaslin (because back then I thought they are ugly and haven't played DAO and DA2 yet) and it was such a stupid scene when he removed it because... she just looked the same. And I still cried like a baby.
The Inquisitor, one of the most powerful and most desired woman in Thedas. A mage so powerful she could single-handedly rip through armies. And when Solas rejects her, all I see is a broken-hearted girl. The way she shrinks in on herself. Damn you BioWare!
I wish there was at least a semi-happy ending for Solas and Lavellan... maybe because I am crazy in love but I would so love to be by his side, knowing how hard it is for him to be alone. Returning the old world where elves were immortal? I would so sign up for that! If da4 comes out I will do everyone I can to not kill Solas :/

I feel emotionally connected to Solas(yes I know how that sounds). I wish they had a happy ending. It made me so sad to see them separated, my heart actually hurt from it. I also wish I could go into the game to save Solas from himself, I would actually do anything to make him happy even though he's not even real.😢
Something I noticed, solas always distances himself from modern elves and says he doesn't consider them "his people" or himself part of a people. But just before he's going to tell the inquisitor about Skyhold, he says "our people" several times. Is he trying to get on Inky's good side? Does he see her in that moment as part of the elvhen?
The romance of Solas is heart breaking yet tragic. To love the hero and betray everyone in the end only to bring about destruction. I truly like his background history as the Dread Wolf, but this should not be for him. I truly understand his pain.
Set The Evil solas was added as a last minute romance option so they didnt have time to animate a sex scene!! im hoping we’ll get some nice apology fade sex from him in DA4 😉
There's actually a line referencing that in Trespasser, if you choose the sad option when he says "What was that old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf take you?" He eventually says that he wouldn't go that far with the Inquisitor without her knowing the truth.

It can be interpreted, as you say, that he wouldn't have felt right about being with her in that way while lying the whole time, so it never went that far. It can also be understood to mean that he did in fact bed his dear Inquisitor, but that it was done out of genuine love and never as a manipulation tactic. The Trespasser epilogue seems to actually imply the latter, since it refers to Solas as her lover. By definition, that implies a level of sexual intimacy.

@LizPlays I doubt it. We'll get a cameo at most. Considering how Lavellan (and every other Inquisitor) ended up after Trespasser, she's not able to fight anymore, in most classes. Although I guess it would be cool!
@30 Nights Insomniac There are ways around that, though. Prosthetic (magical or otherwise); go the dual protagonist route and have the former Inquisitor only take on certain missions that aren't combat oriented; etc. There's a good chance they won't do it, but there are options.
Or have the game allows you to transfer saves with Solavellan romance and get a special scene with them after whatever happens.

Till now DA's history has been to introduce new PCs and cast old PCs off the screen (Hero) or as cameo (Hawke).
I don't think we will get any better deal than that.
For Hero though, Bioware had good reasons to not cast them even as cameo.

18:55 - He almost has a playful look on his face when he realizes he enjoyed it and wants more. After the kisses his reaction is rather light. "Oh right, we shouldn't do this. Time to wake up."
33:50 - He has realized how much he care for Lavellan. He's struggling with himself to stay on path with his bigger goal. Yet, his feelings are so strong he can't resist.
43:30 - Literally overwhelmed by love. It has taken root far deeper than he could imagine. And it's with great sadness he knows he has to end it to prevent her from getting hurt.
(Everytime he calls her *vhenan* my heart skips a beat. It's as if, because he can't show her his love, he puts it all into that word. And you can hear it. Just heart breaking)

Funny thing, I started and never completed Cullen’s romance because I felt it was too corny/he didn’t fit with my inquisitor. Made a new save file, new character, and romanced Solas instead.

I'm always wondering how they went from the room in skyhold to being in the fade, without her even noticing. You'd think she'd notice falling asleep.
It's probable that she was never in the room to begin with. My guess is that their minds somehow "bumped into one another" in the Fade while they were dreaming, and that Solas controlled the environment from there on, Inception-style.
Rather late to the party however I dunno if it's just me but was anyone else slightly weirded out by the whole Fade/Dream convo? It's like come on dude your just going to mess around and see if she notices their in the Fade?

I can swallow all of his backstory, and I get it. What kills me is how he trusted everyone in his spy network, but did not trust you. It cuts deep, man.
He has countermeasures for all of them. Trust through mutual destruction. He has no such thing for the player.
@@seanmason9215 Yeah this is a good point, I believe it's been shown in the side stories that he will kill any of his agents who don't follow his orders without hesitation, but he would let the inquisitor argue him into agreeing with doing things differently... sometimes we don't even have to argue him into it, we can just say say his name and he will walk away instead of killing the group of idiot mages who very directly caused the death of a dear friend of his. It's less that he doesn't trust us not to betray him and more that he trusts us to have more sway over him than he is comfortable with.

I love the way Solas speaks. It's sometimes in Iambic pentamiter - shakespearean rythem that follows the syllable pronouncation. It's following a heart beat rythem. Amazing, no wonder he broke my heart.
The way he speaks is also, in a way like how Legolas and Elrond speaks.
The voice actor has classical theatre training, so that is exactly what you're hearing! The lines from 0:0:19 to 0:0:32 are particularly beautiful, the way he gently lingers on the s in "past" is just lovely.
It's not quite iambic pentameter, but it's iambic something for sure. It's the same metre found in the song Hallelujah, which had a big effect on his writer apparently (source: they did an interview somewhere!)
What gets me is that sometimes one of the conversation choices comes out in the same metre, and all of a sudden it's like the two of you are in sync with the way each other's minds work. Magic.

Even Bioware knows most (all) face tattoos are usually a mistake. Oded Fehr in the Mummy being (my) the exception. ;P
That scene made the whole romance worth it. It was the greatest gift any love interest gave a character in a Bioware game.

I came here after the first romance scene because I wanted to know if he was playing hard to get for something relatively minor, just so we can get the broody 'I can't...' experience. I had got the impression that he was going to be the smart but annoying elfy elf with elfy sorrow.
Well he IS that, and that IS my type. But I do sometimes get bored of it. I would have picked someone else if that had been all he was. Turns out I'd stumbled onto (IMO) the most plot-complementary romance. Multiple PTs in, and it is still my favourite, and my canon. I'm so happy I got to do it as my first experience of the game.
The fact this whole romance is as complex as it is amazes me. What sticks out though is the removal of the vallaslin: by removing the marks of other gods, it basically makes the Inquisitor sworn to Fen’Harel. It’s highkey like a permanent wedding ring for Solas that Lavellan doesn’t know about until Trespasser. The implications that Solas did bed the Inquisitor are also there and I wish Bioware would give us DA4 already so we can see the beloved egg in his full glory.

I wasnt a fan of this romance as without the DLC so much is left out. But that part about him watching her in her in her dreams was heart wrenching. What a way to set up the bad guy for the next game though. Damn good writing.
The way he says "I know, vhenan" when you tell him the Anchor is getting worse, it just gets me every time 😭😭 He really cares about Lavellan and it pains him so much to see her suffer, knowing that she'll die.

In Trespasser, Solas is clearly trying to justify to himself and to you, that his ends actually do justify the means - when that isn’t the case. If he can’t see it already, then he’s not exactly romance material. Although, I’ll admit I’m one of the people that doesn’t care if I kill or they let us convince him - I chose Cullen instead.
I think the part that broke my heart the most (no DLCs) was the fact that my Lavellan had to stand on that balcony completely by herself. It was so sad to me

My excitement for Dragon Age 4 is only rivaled by my fear that we won't be able to save/redeem him. I also could not believe how much this romance pulled me in during my playthrough and devastated me by the end. I kept thinking, "I'm a rational adult, and this is a fantastic fantasy game that shouldn't dominate my day-to-day." *listens to Lost Elf at work and practically bawls at my desk*
Such a powerful and amotionally draining romantic story... Extraordinary character. Simply fantastic. After all this time i'm still waiting DA4. Patrick Weekes created something special. I hope we'll save him. Definitely need this option.
I love Iron Bull, Solas and Cullen romance. Each really means something to me because each of them represents a significant lesson in your life. Iron Bull romance represent teacher who encourage you to do the impossible, overcoming big challenges (killing dragons & such) but he ultimately don’t stay with you. Solas romance represent a soulmate, someone who you have a deep connection with but the relationship doesn't work out and you have to let him go and to this day you still can't get over him. And finally Cullen romance, someone who need you to apply what you learn from the previous relationships to help him overcome his own demons, and in the end he loves you and wants to be with you no matter what. I have yet to find a Cullen but I have had the other 2... Not saying which is better than the other, I love them all, they are all great romances.

Storytime! I NEVER would have been able to finish Dragon Age Inquisition if I hadn't spoiled Solas's whole story and romance for myself before ever playing the game. That probably sounds pretty backwards, and it is, but I just need to share how Solas pretty much became responsible for my investment in DAI AND Dragon Age as a whole.
Basically, I spoiled myself years ago on some random day while I was perusing random game footage on CZcams just for curiosity's sake. I only picked one Dragon Age video (can't remember if it was this one), and it happened to be a similar compilation of all Solas's romance scenes. I had no idea what DA was, who this egghead was, or why he seemed to betray the MC at the end of the compilation. But that ending bit was at least a little interesting to me. Feeling bored, I clicked off thinking I'll never buy such an ugly-looking game, and never thought about DA again until 2019. When I bought Inquisition cause I found a copy at a pawn shop for 10 bucks XD
Yes, I played the series backwards on accident ;_; And leaping into Inquisition proved to be VERY overwhelming cause I had *absolutely no idea what the balls was going on.* And I almost quit the game within the first hour because of it. Until, ENTER THE BALD ELF that I only barely remembered from CZcams all that time ago. And I do mean I BARELY remembered, except for that one specific bit about him betraying the MC. Still had no context and no idea WHY he did, but he quickly became my favorite character because I couldn't stop trying to figure out the mystery :D
Literally, he fueled my entire first (successful) playthrough. I say successful because my first character was a human who wasn't very interesting, I tried again with an elf who was way cooler and had much more success talking to Solas. (Solas practically hated my human D:) The first few convos between Solas and my Lavellan tho... I got tons of disapproval from them cause I had no fuggin clue what a Dalish elf was or why he disliked them. One convo went SO sour that I stopped the game, got my laptop, and researched Dalish lore for like 2 HOURS. And I *LOVED IT.* The Dalish sounded like the coolest bunch of tree huggers ever, and I could finally understand what Solas was trying to say about them. From then on, whenever Solas was rambling about something I didn't get, (the fade, especially) I'd go on a lore binge. (Careful to avoid spoilers) The more I learned, the more I could genuinely enjoy his dialogue AND the rest of the game.
So yeah, I'm not usually a lore junkie, but because I was so curious about who Solas really was, I taught myself about the world so I'd understand more about him. And that led to FURTHER lore digging about dwarves and qunari and templars and the chantry, etc. I fell DEEP down the rabbit hole, man. If I went into the game knowing _zero_ about him or any other character, I'm sure I would've avoided that rabbit hole entirely and never given the game (or the rest of the series) a real chance.
TLDR: Solas indirectly became my teacher about all things Dragon Age. And also my Lavellan's boyfriend, forgot to mention that bit :D

This is almost exactly what this video did for me! I've always been a lore junkie but this fuelled it to new heights, to the point where I decided to stop partway through and play through the first two games for context reasons.
Sidenote, but it's interesting to look back on how I went into them with totally different opinions because of all the blood magic/spirit conversations (and talking to Inquisition Cullen!) Congrats on accidentally influencing the events of 2 whole other games, Solas
My story is entirely different. I played played all three games back when they all first came out starting from Origins, then 2, and finally Inquisition. So when Solas started talking about all these things I knew what he was talking about, and it was nice to hear an even more in depth explanation about things I only had a general knowledge of. But there were also things he talked about that I didn’t understand, mainly due to never reading the freaking comics, so as a lore junky I had to dive deep to figure out what he meant on some things. I always liked learning so I found Solas interesting as he was the most knowledgeable character in the franchise.
Same for me. No idea what DA was. Saw this romance video on CZcams about an ugly egg guy with a hot voice. I ended up falling in love with that egg he Broke my heart and now I’ve read all the lore played the games and dying to play DA. Honestly I can’t even look at real men anymore they are all so boring compared to this elven god.

I once thought Fenris was my favorite romance, until I played Inquisition and romanced Solas. Romancing these elves has got me FUCKED UP.
For a long time I loved Zevran's romance. I romanced Fenris, but he didn't top Zevran. First time with Inquisition, I did Cullen. Was cute, but Zevran still topped him.
Then after a few years I played the game again and tossed in the DLCs out of curiosity. Tried for Cullen but then I made the mistake of romancing Solas instead.....
The bloody elf topped Zevran! He pushed Zevran down to 2nd place as my romance favourites. It suprised me that I adored his romance while also it being painful. Now I struggle to not romance him
i never really wanted to date solas but DAMN his kissing scenes are so good and emotional, wth.
Solas could tell me stories 24/7 and I wouldn't get bored. That's actually how he won me over. When I saw his first official art I didn't like him at all (don't like the idea of bald elves), I was set to romance Cullen or Bull. Short story, I never romanced the other two. All of my Inqisitors are ether charmed or crush on him in my plays. I know the devs didn't add his romance until much later, but I like thinking that this was a deep asexual romance, something that was supposed to be built on trust (damn it EGG). I guess this is why THAT scene hurt me so much. I put actual roots of feelings into this character and got burned for it

I really love how passsionate and sad his romance is. Every kisses, he is so in need of love, like waiting to unleashed. I love that our Inki just completely shake his world. I can't decide if I'm happy I went for Cullen in my first playthrough or sad x)
I can't wait for DA 4, I want to know in which direction their relation would go so badly!

I know why we have a new hero in the next game and not the inquisitor, but the ties with the inquisitor and Solas, especially if you romance him, is so interesting. He’s such an interesting anti hero and I can’t even be mad that he’s trying to kill everyone tbh 😭
the "You change... everything..." line carries so much more weight after trespasser.
Solas is so pissed by the Grey Wardens and their plan, but he says nothing about the Inquisitor almost getting trapped in the Fade.
Solas speaks in a manner that is best defined as poetry, and it is beautiful. Horribly beautiful.
I love rewatching this and pointing out the little hints littered all over the place. My fave this time: the confident rancor in Solas's voice when he says that real gods don't need to prove it, and that all of Corypheus's wilding out would be his downfall.

My very first playthrough was a Lavellan with a very small, light, skin-colored vallaslin (because back then I thought they are ugly and haven't played DAO and DA2 yet) and it was such a stupid scene when he removed it because... she just looked the same. And I still cried like a baby.

And when Solas rejects her, all I see is a broken-hearted girl. The way she shrinks in on herself. Damn you BioWare!
I wish there was at least a semi-happy ending for Solas and Lavellan... maybe because I am crazy in love but I would so love to be by his side, knowing how hard it is for him to be alone. Returning the old world where elves were immortal? I would so sign up for that! If da4 comes out I will do everyone I can to not kill Solas :/

I feel emotionally connected to Solas(yes I know how that sounds). I wish they had a happy ending. It made me so sad to see them separated, my heart actually hurt from it. I also wish I could go into the game to save Solas from himself, I would actually do anything to make him happy even though he's not even real.😢

Something I noticed, solas always distances himself from modern elves and says he doesn't consider them "his people" or himself part of a people. But just before he's going to tell the inquisitor about Skyhold, he says "our people" several times. Is he trying to get on Inky's good side? Does he see her in that moment as part of the elvhen?
The romance of Solas is heart breaking yet tragic. To love the hero and betray everyone in the end only to bring about destruction. I truly like his background history as the Dread Wolf, but this should not be for him. I truly understand his pain.
We may have been hurt by this egg, but I like to believe that leaving us hurts him more than we could imagine

There's actually a line referencing that in Trespasser, if you choose the sad option when he says "What was that old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf take you?" He eventually says that he wouldn't go that far with the Inquisitor without her knowing the truth.
@@cairrean2412 In all fairness, the wording ("would not lay with you under false pretenses") could be taken either way. It can be interpreted, as you say, that he wouldn't have felt right about being with her in that way while lying the whole time, so it never went that far. It can also be understood to mean that he did in fact bed his dear Inquisitor, but that it was done out of genuine love and never as a manipulation tactic.
The Trespasser epilogue seems to actually imply the latter, since it refers to Solas as her lover. By definition, that implies a level of sexual intimacy.
