- Widespread Panic performs "Red Hot Mama" into "Porch Song" into "Drums" into "Papa's Home" into "Surprise Valley" back into "Papa's Home" live at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, Alabama on August 12, 2000. From the official Oak Mountain 2000 live video release.

Hard to believe this is over 20 years ago. I love Jimmy, but I miss Mikey.
I love Duane but I miss Todd ♡
Sounds like the keys were *ahem instrumental in that transition.
To me at least.
Can you imagine how good he'd sound after 20 more years playing?
That's too funny I miss mickey. Jimmy's a beast he just never turned my ear
These guys could bring the heat
Just discovered this amazing band. Love from London.
Micheal you have now entered a Black Hole Backwards.
The worm is definitely turning for you, my man. 😁
Suggestion: stream or download these live shows.
Oak Mtn.-++ any partial or complete shows from 98 to 2002. Mikey's last Oak Mtn run
Red Rocks-- Jeez, 2000, 01, were burners.. incredible shit.
Greek Theater, Berkley- definitely 2000 and 01..I was there when Santana was special guest.
Try those and see what you 🤔
Lordy late 90s through the early 2000s. Best band of my life
Mikey used to get them boys in and out of jams - peaks and valleys - flawlessly. Love the lingering!! Miss him.
Exactly right
The Best panic ever. Listening to them with Mikey was like riding a wave to the shore. Mikey would take you from 100 foot wave and then spit you out on the shore.
@@franksantorelli4196 I love it! I always felt listening WP with Mikey was like riding a roller coaster, up and down, sideways, sometimes even upside down, but at the end you were always pulled safely into the station to get out (and get in line for the next ride) ☺️
Yup.
HOMETEAM 110%
This run stands as a highlight to what Panic was all about. Family- in one word. Damn I was lucky to have this as a soundtrack in my life. Great times!!!
Man they were good back then. I remain convinced that anyone that's not a Panic fan, just never saw them live.
This time era was panic at their peak IMO, and I’m lucky to have seen over half of my panic shows right around this time.
100%
Agree that it was Panic at their peak. I started seeing shows in the late 80s - Hilton Head summers, Athens. But they still jam today. Sound is a little different without Mikey, but still love their sh*t.
Me as well first show Huntsville 92. It was a damn magical time. Words will never express the feelings. 💓💓
I liked the Corn Bobbers era the best. CMFB!!!
For sure. For a lot of us, it was a peak in our lives as well. These guys are the reason.
“Downstairs smells like Breakfast. Upstairs smells like perfume. Papas comin home”. What a great time to be alive
the trippy ass jam is what died when Mikey passed imo, what a shame. He was taken from the world too early. I often think of where would they be if all 6 were still here and playing.
The trippy jam out of Porch right before Drums is fire
@@10lambo10 what are either us saying lol.....IT WAS ALL FIRE when Mikey was here. That iteration of Widespread Panic transcended music if you let it, it would literally put your consciousness in another dimension. Or maybe that was just the spiderman puddles🤷♂️....nah upon 2nd listen its the music🤣🤣
Fantastic just discovered this band only a few minutes ago... killer music love it
Come see a show!
Dude, do yourself a favor and go to the show
Take it all in my friend 🤘
My God this is perfection!! I miss these days. JB freaking murders RHM!!!Right on red hot mama, mama, mama ,mama owwwwwwwwuhhh...damnit I wanna go back so bad.
If I could go back in time screw seeing dinosaurs, the Gettysburg address, the invention of the wheel, headed straight for Panic tour 1995-2002 💯💯💯
Soooooo bad
100% for sure would time-portal straight to Oak Mountain
Red rocks for me.
The transition from RhM> Porch just gave me chills. They were unstoppable during this period. An energy unlike any other during that time was conjured up by these guys whenever they played, it was truly magical.
Well said my Friend!!!!
✨✌️💖🎶🍀🌹✨
Yep yep
I'm not using magical in a cliché sense either. Literally magical!! There were nights where somewhere in middle of the 1st set i would, i guess, seem to travel thru time cause the next thing I knew I was standing there, hands in hair sitting on top of my extremely sweaty head. In somewhat of a daze, thinking to myself "what the hell just happend?" as the crew cleaned the stage of gear. Like for real, It was like I traveled thru time 😂😂
And before someone says something like "that's because the triple stacked rolls royces were actually mdma"....i say NOPE. Been to many other shows in that state and NEVER before or since had I felt that way with ANY other band....as im sure many others remember. I never saw the dead so maybe there were others before my time but for my generation Panic was the 100% dead on BEST in the biz. I've spent my adulthood watching shows, waiting for that next time I'm lifted up and dragged off into sea of notes. I fear, however, I will never have that feeling again....even Panic now, as happy as they make me, as much as I can't wipe the smile off my face as I watch them, can't match the kate 90's early 2000's because of the lingering lead that left this realm 8/10/02 RIP Mikey and Thank you for the WONDERFUL & MAGICAL memories!!
@@brandonj7091 I understand completely Brandon. There were a couple of Dead shows where the lights would come on and I would go...."What the (#** just happened?" Same thing with early WSP shows. Few bands can do that to you.
I could not agree more as a causal fan . I'll explain. My friend a big WP fan took me along to a show in 99. I saw them every chance I got in 2000. Still some of the absolute most magical shows I have ever seen. They were just on another level
Saw them in Huntsville about about a year later. I was three or four rows back from Schools. He'd hit certain notes that would send sound waves through my body. The soul of WP was tattooed on my heart from that point on.
Ride that Wave.... 6 headed monster. Miss those days.
JBs lyrics just rode right along on top of that tight ass groove. They were all so confident with each other during this time because of how close they were and how long they'd been together touring at this point. It literally was like they were one.
There are many positives about all the versions to date of this band. However, I will say this. When I hear it my dreams this is the way it sounds. A masterclass they were late 90’s early 2000’s. Rest In Peace to the two giants who are no longer with us🙌🏻
Took me awhile after Jerry died to dig Houser, but JB and the boys sold me flat out in ‘96
Not to diminish anything them boys are doing present day, but I miss this iteration of Panic's evolution. They're commanding energy and presence with the familiarity of having been playing together for roughly a decade and a half at this point. Big difference between here and seeing them at the Georgia Theater very early 90s... or SAE Athens, and other places around town even earlier than that. My God, this band has been helping me get through life for 32 years. Just the thought might cause me to have an existential crisis lol!
This live version of "Papa's Home" to me is one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, there I said it !!
Pelham was my favorite 3 night run.
These were great times
Miss you Mikey and Todd
I miss these days life sux now.
Mine too. Koa?
OMFG! This is one of my absolute favorite classic Panic videos. This is from Oak Mtn in 2000, I believe. Holy shit, they cooked! Sunny just went wild and they all were fabulous. Many thanks to whoever posted this video. RIP Mikey and Todd.
My god were these the days. Straight fire. Got to love this good ole Rock and Roll. Man did these boys have it.
21 road years put a hurting on all of us.
If you didn't see Panic with Mike, you didn't see Panic.
Right on
Yurp!
and Todd
Amen!!
It's TRUE, but I couldn't have because I was born after Mike died
I was at this show and damn, someone already said it. It can't be close to 21 years ago and to look back on it seems unreal. Special time around that venue and WSP was a huge part of that. I'm glad I was there to experience the shows and the artists that happened by frequently. I haven't ever been the same ever since.
Amen.
Those of the Starry Backdrop. God they were untouchable!
I don't know how many damned times I watched this on DVD in 2002 -- miss you Mikey
Each and every one of them... amazing! Together... Out of this world and into a whole other dimension!
YES!! That's it 😀
the absolute business
In my opinion this was the golden era of panic
This is the Widespread lineup that made "Widespread Panic" a household name.
God damn do I LOVE this band! First show was Halloween’96 at the Aragon Ballroom. And my appreciation and Love have grown from there. Long live WSP!!!!!!!!
Gives me chills… this was my first show as a junior in high school… that night definitely changed my mind…. Been with them through every era but the OG line up and the fire they had rolling from 98-02 was unbeatable
I suppose I am purist. After Mikey passed it's just not the same. I still love my guys always have always will.
💯
Same….
Exactly.
Porch is like the wind right before a big thunderstorm. And then it happens
Mikey was soooooo smooth.... the lingering lead made every jam a special trip
🔥🔥🎶🎶🎶🎶💖smokin!!!!!👏👏👏
Best ever!! WSMFP!
One thing that’s gone but not forgotten is Mikey. Another thing is the old school HOMETEAM !
And one last thing to add Iowans4Panic lives on forever too
Seen the live 6 times. Shroomy dancing, mooooooovin and groovin
(Grabbing towel to wipe up my melted face)
You too huh? 🤯🤯🤯
I think you grabbed mine by accident 😶
Seeing this live... CLAWD Hab MERSAYyyyyy.
Thank you.
Might be the GOAT drums.
Mikey blazed the trail, I agree thank Gawdwe have Jimmy.
And on that note I would like to say welcome back Sonny!
You my friend have been missed. Most happy to see and hear you once again as your Talent shines through and takes its proper ownership on the stage.
Thank you continue to take care of you my brother.🆗️!!!🎼🥁👍
At this time you guys came into a Great Time!! Been hearing You Guys Till 89!! Been Having A Moon Time Ever Since!! Was There With Houser at Oak!! Best Time guys!!!
Those were the days...
Pigbunny did not know.....omg!!!!!
This is Widespread Panic in my book
That was pure bliss! After Mikey passed I just gave up... he was irreplaceable imho. Not to trash the forms this band has taken since but Panic just took me along on his bending strings like no other guitarist ever has and I’ve heard the greats at 60 years old. That was FIRE folks!
SMOKIN just read the lyrics to Porch Song now that’s a story pure poetry
PEAK PANIC!
This is a great concert. 👍 I like all their music 🎶 🎵. John Bell is fantastic 👌 👏. I'm listening 🎶 in 2022.
I met a guy my freshmen year at UGA fall of 1980, named Jim, we became casual friends and he was going to see a friend over at Oglethorpe House and invited me to come along. I did and there were a couple guys in the room and one guy named Mike, Jim's friend's roommate, sitting in an old dirty white upholstered chair practicing some guitar chords, didn't seem to be any better than the average beginner on the guitar at the time. I went over and hung out a few times durig the year and remember Mike being real soft-spoken. I didn't give it any thought until I looked up and listened to some Athens bands on youtube some thirty years later. when I saw Houser, I recognized him as the guy at O house. I remember Jim and Houser but oddly no one else (except some moron throwing ninja stars into doors). I have no idea why I remember the chair, lol
Amazing how fast time goes by. This is the formula
Nice nod for Mother's Day fellas!
Thanks for playn HOME TEAM😊
flawless.
The days of wine and roses...❤
"downstairs smell like breakfast, upstairs like perfume, child, oh, papa's comin' home!" - JB
Damn right
That was a damn fun weekend!!
The Oak Mountain Run A year later in 2001 might still be my favorite weekend show ever.
Gives me chills going back and watching this. So thankful to have been at this show. Was good times had by all
I was at this show. Miss seeing Mikey.
This is the only Panic I can listen to. I find Jimmy's guitar tone extremely grating. And Mikey is Panic; that's where the name came from. His tone is so silky, so perfect for the songs.
Mikey was also such a genuine soul. Interviewed him once, and he was very expansive, but humble too. Got to meet him at Red Rocks too, and he was very sweet. I first saw WSP in 1991; they opened for Blues Traveler on Halloween at Roseland in NYC. Saw them again on HORDE in 1992, and at RR in 1994, but didn't really get them until 1997, and from 1997-2002 saw every show they played in Colorado, plus a few in New Mexico. Loved those years; the JB and Friends lineups just don't bring the same joy.
Thank you WSP, for this video. Hope you share more of the lingering lead; I bought the DVDs of Panic in the Streets (with the bonus Georgia Theater), Oak Mountain, and Austin City Limits, plus TEWSY, so I'd have the Mikey vids to watch. Hope you can release more down the line.
We Miss You Mikey!!! 🎸
WE LOVE YOU GUYS !!!
Once in a lifetime type of thing. Feel so blessed to have been there.
It was smoking! 😎
I saw these guys in a tiny bar in Baltimore for the 1st time. Smoked 'em out between sets & watched them grow into this truly amazing sound. Miss you Mikey!
That was in '89.
Great story/memories, these guys are truly genuine cats!! They must've been youngsters during y'alls puff...
jojo fire
Behold. A small window in time in which I remember fondly. Six musicians as one carrying a wave of live music that transcended what we all thought was possible. I’d give an awful lot to see this masterclass one more time.
From Turin (italy) just TY so much for such a GROOVY SOUND ........ ; ))))))))))))))
Brings back some feelings. I get teary-eyed, but smiling bright.
They are awesome. K😅 just saw them in vegas
🎉❤🎉 love this jam session. Wow..... I got to see wsp in 91 And have not 🚫 stopped jamming out... Hampton was another great weekend.
Not a fucking cell phone in sight and it was glorious!! Good times and pure human interaction with The Good People!!❤
Such a PERFECT set
Very glad that I attended this show, as well as several others from 1997-2002 down south. What a great escape into the world of good tunes and good times with friends. The last years before smart phones were great 😊. RIP Mikey and also check out the shows where Govt Mule and the boys sat in after opening up for WP.
I got to see both Widespread and the Black Crows at the same festival early 2000's in Louisville, Kentucky.
Crowd reaction for SV. Good people 😌
incredible
The finely tuned machine "Widespread Panic" is firing on all cylinders and transcending into the deepest levels of sauce.
I'm blown away by these hombres..I'll be at Beacon in NYC in July 1st time seeing then LIVE
Marvelous
wha wah wahhhhhhh
I saw panic at oak mountain in 94 and 95. Excellent shows. the best show I’ve ever seen of panic was tipitina’s uptown in the garden district, in the winter of 93.
Damn I miss Mikey!
I'm happy I got to see them a hand full of times before he left us. I even saw them when he was still standing. God , I miss those days!
