As Mike stated, all the reasons could fill a 350 page book, but a large chunk is dissatisfaction and relatively low wages. It could be a chance for some to find work they actually enjoy. I do wonder what the economic impact both for the economy and the individuals will be over a length of time.

American companies used to see their single most important investment as their employees. Effort was made to retain them long term so that people didn't need to constantly retrain people. Having employees remain long-term meant they gained a significant amount of specific knowledge to the company. Paying and treating them well was what retained them.

However, occasionally, team members would call in sick - so let's say his team was down to 4 on a particular Thursday, for example. Same Thursday 8 trucks come in rather than 6. Now, you have 4 team members unloading 8 trucks - working TWICE as hard. Rather than receive a bonus (or at least high praise), the 4 workers would sometimes be written up by management for "failure to complete the job"! Unbelievable! People are done with companies that consider them as a number and not a person. People quit because of this, bad management, poor incentives, poor wages compared to responsibilities, AND the biggest reason for this is, employers(or management) that think that they own their employees like Scrooge treats Bob in the beginning of "A Christmas Carol."

If you work 20 hours a week for 4 consecutive weeks (basically part time) your employer has to offer basic health coverage. If you don't qualify, our State has an incredibly comprehensive plan, for a minimal premium cost.

@@bryanfox2735 the path to that is:
      1. Increase corporate tax, or at least tax all corporations income equal without tax incentives and tax subsidies.
      2. Actually tax the wealthy, close tax loopholes and dodges. Stop giving away capital gains tax with Step-up in Basis. Prevent income being hidden offshore or in layers of corporations and holding companies. Add funding the the IRS so they can pursue high wealth tax cases faster.
      3. Stop giving away tax $$$ to profitable corporations.
      4. Provide social supports so the working poor, disabled and temporarily unemployed become productive. Get them back contributing to the economy, spending and paying part of the tax burden.
Once we have all that, likely we can lower tax rates for everyone. Particularly the low and middle income workers. Most other developed countries actually have a 0% bottom marginal tax rate up close to the poverty line. This reduces tax burden on all workers, working poor and middle class. They do this by having slightly higher marginal rates for corporations, high income executives, and not wasting money giving it to billionaires.
If you want lower taxes for the working people of the country, then support the Democrats platform (not their actual practice, but the platform they run on which will eventually lower taxes for the middle and lower income workers). Though they always say the opposite, the Republicans tend to raise taxes for the working people. If you make less than $400,000 per year you pay less taxes with the Democrat platform.
