    What some homesteaders do is have the chicken follow the sheep from section to section. Yes, let the sheep mow down the grass. By having the chicken follow, they spread all of the sheep poo out of their piles which is absorbed more quickly by the ground because the grass is short from the sheep grazing. ❤🌅🌵

      Once I've got some sheep that's what I intend to do too. Also some chicken tractors so I can move the housing. In time I hope my current set up will be 'spare' :)

    An Aqua roll for transporting water would be easy and cheap on eBay and if you had an old trailer or horse box you could build your chicken coop in the trailer and would be easy to move round the field.our chicks hatched 11 out of 12 and now more quail on the go

    Oh no, poor blue budgie.....
    I couldn’t see the Muscovies for long enough to tell if they are all male or all female.... you can definitely tell the difference when you have the different sexes.
    And make sure they don’t breed with the other duck breeds or their offspring won’t be able to reproduce.
    It’s so exciting. I’ll check out Instagram to see if you have a photo of the Muscovy ducklings.

    The fences will definitely get better with practice and you’ll get a lot of practice!

    Re: Hauling water. When buying intermediary containers try to envision large enough containers that ca be used by you water catchment systems. I know you have a van, but there are large containers that will fit in you van that you can add a filler tube or a spigot on the side of the container. Also, think about bladders. I saw a bladder that fits a bathtub ( I think it holds 100 gallons). It's for people preparing for bad weather like a hurricane or blizzard. Very in expensive... Maybe $25. You can fashion a wooden crate out of old pallets to hold your bladder. ❤🌅🌵😷

    Hi Geoff. Have you noticed an increase in your egg production and or quality since your poultry has been out on pasture?

    • @BrimwoodFarm
      @BrimwoodFarm  Před 4 lety

      Quality is definitely better already. Increase in productivity ... not so much. Quite a lot of my girls are old timers who don't lay. But I think as they settle in more, it'll increase.

    I know you did a video about UK regulations around chickens, but what about quails? As some people have them as pets? Can I feed them kitchen scraps(veggie peelings etc)?

    • @BrimwoodFarm
      @BrimwoodFarm  Před 4 lety

      Unfortunately not. They changed the wording a little whole ago to include quail, pheasants etc ... basically any livestock. But quail LOVE bugs. I give them little trowel fulls of dirt and they scratch through for woodlice etc.

    Muscovey hens are almond shaped, the tail comes to a point. Drakes are massive early on and more rectangular or square shaped, the tails are longer but are not tapered. Looking down on them and the differences are obvious early on.

    • @BrimwoodFarm

      It was a grass snake. I only know that as we have so few species of snake here ... process of elimination! 😁
