As somebody who has served as a United States Infantryman for four years, through three combat deployments... If you listen to the sound that the A-10 makes here? I have seen it, and heard it on multiple occasions in real life.
The sounds of that machine gun, well it pretty much shoots a burst of up to 180 rounds within two seconds of high explosive phosphorus rounds that are bullets as big as a Red Bull can.
Whoever was piloting that jet in this video, that’s not how it really goes. They fly so high and so far away that you can’t even tell that they’re shooting you until you see the rounds at the ground, and then you hear that epic buzz that it makes.
I will say? I have seen in person of the damage what these things do, and these things saved my life on several occasions.... 😊👍🇺🇸

I can see why news outlets consistently mistake this for real footage of an actual combat engagement. However, if I may offer one correction for _Republic_ journalists: Pakistan never used the A-10.
It's my understanding that Republic is claiming its was a drone.

As a retired vet that ran the warthogs ranges, no it’s not. At that height it can’t reach its top speed, which is already subsonic. One maybe two missiles at the most would end this scenario rather quick.👍🏽 They are still our best ground support attack planes though.
@@43msd thats fair. The first barrage from the A10 would have been a strafing and missle run against an active target like that. Then peel away and gain some serious altitude to come around for another pass.
That amd it wouldn't be just one aiming to take the AA out.

@@grantoconnor3587 yes. This weapon system has a independent radar system that targets the A10 miles before the A10 is in range to fire. Also this system was not built to be a stand alone system. To my knowledge used as designed it hasn’t been penetrated.
The fact that the AA canon did miss all that time is baffling. Im a trained AA gunner and most of the time the target gets locked on by a radar and with lasers and calculations the cannon aims itself at the target. I would say its about 80% accurate to hit the target. Mostlikely the shooting was done manually in this game. Wich is hard to do, specially if the aircraft operator flies like a gamer and less likely a trained pilot, because of these crazy maneuvers. Btw its one of the most intense feelings if an 35mm AA gun burst fires next to your face when you sit in the chair. After the training my face was black from the gunpowder and we had to wear inear protection plus the earmuffs. It makes every bloodvessel vibrate

Cannon accuracy drops off dramatically with range as the round slows. It can only predict the current direction of the aircraft at the firing time, not how it will turn by the time it gets there. As long as you don't fly in a predictable manner, the best fire control computer doesn't really matter. This is why muzzle velocity and low drag rounds are so important.
The SPAA is AI controlled. The player can adjust the accuracy of the AI, so it's likely he turned it down to a less realistic setting.
Its also likely the A10 was made to be invulnerable, because apparently its plot armour is thicker than the titanium tub under the pilot.
I also love how people are trying to prove how the slow-as-fuck A10 will apparently be able to counter every modern AA system, when in reality the A10 was built for BRRRTing goat farmers armed with rocks.
"B-But anti-tanmk busting!" Yeah right, as if modern enemy armor isn't going to operate with supporting infantry armed with MANPADS, supporting SPAA and at least 2 fighters for establishing air superiority.
Aren't IFVs also equipped with some AA capability too?
Sure you might get out a Hellfire or two, but you're not gonna last long enough before you're spiked by 3 incoming missiles. No amount of chaff is gonna stop that. There's a reason why the Air Force hasnt continued to pursue the idea of a dedicated attack aircraft yet. An F/A-18 can accomplish what the A10 already does with a couple 1000lbs JDAMs, but better.
Now someone is gonna try to prove me wrong, because A) They're heavily biased and watched a couple episodes of the A10 on History Channel and now they're glamorising it because apparently "it was built around a gun", and B) They're a Veteran who called air support on a single 70 year old goat farmer harassing them 1000m away who's armed with an even older SKS. Go on, tell me how smart you are.

So gamers have better chance of survival then a trained pilot.

The reverberation heard coming back off of the terrain just really puts the realism factor over the top. Imagine if this was in a really mountainous area. That kind of attention to detail can really make the difference. Thank you for NOT blasting some stupid “background music” that would drown that out!
Did 2 years in Afghanistan. At Bagram air base. The a-10's would practice by strafing the mountains nearby. The sound they make here is nearly perfect, except nowhere NEAR loud enough.

How could the anti-air/tank weapon not bring the A10 down? It must have hit the A10 several times, you could even see the plinking, with some real good hits! Oh, I see it's a simulation
In the game, the author has a script installed on the plane that disables the registration of damage. As a person who plays ARMA 3 a lot, I can clearly see this.
The A-10 is designed to be airworthy with 50% of each wing blown off. The pilot sits in a titanium cup that pretty much makes him immune to small arms fire. It can really take a pounding.

So if I understand correctly, the AA tank shoots in front of the target where it will be when the bullets meet and the pilot has to gamble, take the shot and get hit or change direction to avoid getting hit and try again. But the closer you get the easier it will be for the AA tank to hit you.

Actually, the A-20 was built to take a hit, and has a record of having incredible endurance. Just sayin
@@humanbear4 the a10 was built to withstand the standard 23mm autocannon rounds. But 35mm shells are a different matter. I would hazard that a few hits would shred the control surfaces, even if it hit the main armored body, I would guess enough sensors or weapons would be damaged to force the aircraft to return before it becomes unflyable
I counted 11 hits, one being a missile. Any plane would be down after that.
@@michaelhanson8296 not necessarily. There’s damage, then there’s critical damage. There’s only a few places on a plane you can hit that would make an aircraft unable to fly. Places like the pilot, engine, and elevator mechanism. So long as you go those things, I reckon you can still at least land. It wouldn’t be very good, and you’d be in severe danger, but I’d like to see an actual test before I can fully conclude my BS rant.

computers are the ones shooting these days. The military is more computerized now than ever before. You walk on the battlefield you will get eviscerated by literal aimbots.
In times past that was very true, you would have to estimate where your target was going to be, another technique was to make the aviator expend all of their fuel as soon they deployed their payload by purposely driving them further inland with a SAM, or out to sea depending on the situation. Perhaps now thing have changed but in times past each aircraft had a certain fuel allotment. The purpose of that was to capture the aviator once their aircraft was downed. I am sure combat techniques have advanced far beyond that now.

If you have ever seen the A-10 in real life, it a sound that you can never forget. To see one flying below the trees 🌲 and pop up over the trees and you hear the snort of the cannons! It’s been over 40 years now but it’s still my favorite 😍 fighter.

Spent 100's upon 1000's of hours in ARMA III, don't regret a day of it the sheer amount of things you can get up to in the game is amazing, one week you're in a special forces team fighting with 100 other people setting up bases in a jungle and then having it out 50VS 50 the next week you're in a fully modded survival server fighting for loot and supplies to build a small base on your own in a massive environment with 99 other people doing the same thing, you would really have to invest in a game like this for a long time to feel the beauty of it.

The A-10 was flying alone with a poor angle of attack, missed the first engagement entirely, because they just so happened to stop firing just short. The AA rounds seemed like they were hitting the aircraft but doing nothing.
