Reviewing an EXPENSIVE £82 LUXURY BUFFET in the UNITED KINGDOM!

- Without a doubt, the biggest and most expensive review since starting the channel. I've had a few recommendations to try the Glasshouse restaurant at the Grove Hotel in Watford. Many of you have wanted me to review an expensive buffet and today is the day. The buffet is priced at £65 for Friday lunch and £82 for weekend hours. Let's give it a go!

I am subscribed to over 500 channels - mainly food, as I worked in catering for 20 years; five of those years in Michelin-starred restaurants. I was trained as a chef by two Michelin-starred dudes, but my back went out and so my days in the kitchen were curtailed. Anyways, I'm just trying to qualify my main point: I know how restaurants work, and I really enjoy your polite and kind attitude to reviewing these establishments. We're possibly of a similar age, and it is very pleasant to see someone that values simple decency. I hope your channel grows and people remember the value of being simply kind and polite.

I just love how absolutely polite and mannered you are to the servers, so humble and likeable. I do the same thing whenever I am being served by anyone as much as I can.

I can't think of any situation when I'd be rude to a server, unless they were rude first. Even when things go wrong, that's life! Roll with it.
I've got to say Gary I would have given it a full 10. Not just because the food was to die for but because of the whole experience of it in such fantastic surroundings. When you go out for a meal, especially for a special occasion as it would have to be for many of us, it is nearly as much about the experience as the food. What a fantastic ambiance.

9.5 for me because the quality was “exquisite “! across the range of dishes #1 , #2 you dressed up for the occasion and #3 your hair was perfection my compliments to your hairdresser. Just love seeing you spend your money and enjoying doing so . Another great review!

@@GaryEatsgreat review as always ! If you want to check out a few other “fancy places” you have chewton glen down in Dorset ! Or you have coworth park in Surrey not far from Heathrow ! We often just go in for a lunch, even a burger and chips!! Yes pricey but quality and surroundings are on a different level !
Another place I would recommend for a burger and chips is cut at 45 park lane in London, burger and chips for about 30 quid ! Have had it probably over 100 times over the years it’s been open! Never let me down once !

@@gtaswfc4684 as they say each to their own ! I’m not wealthy ! Live in a 4 bed semi ! Don’t have a mortgage anymore , decent job and like to enjoy life ! Nothing wrong with treating the family to a nice meal now and again ! I mean I saw another uk reviewer a few days ago who reviewed a burger from a van in Dublin for 25 quid and he was saying that was the best thing he has had, while eating it off a bonnet of a car !!!!
I’m careful with my money, but when I spend it , I spend it on quality and not quantity !

Oh my, oh my, oh my! I nearly swooned with delight over all that delicious goodness. My favorite roast meat is lamb, followed by pork and beef tied for second place. Everything was sheer perfection in both presentation and service. This is a gem of a buffet and one that should be experienced on a special occasion once in everyone's life. I would give it a 10. i would starve myself for a week to go eat there, the food looked incredible, the roast, dessert, starters, the flame station, it all looked amazing. Not too far from me either so might treat the family, thank you for the review

(141) WOW. A "once-a-year" type of experience. The one that you have a dedicated money jar that you religiously put "X" amount of money into during the year to cover the expense so you can enjoy a guilt-free gastronomic field day. And lamb is my favorite roast. What an incredible treat, Gary. MANY thanks for this upload so we can all tag along to enjoy such a rare treat. 😃

When you think at how much a steak dinner costs these days, and that is for just one piece of meat, the selection and quality of food is astounding. Your careful control of portion size was interesting to watch as was your choice. We all noticed the attentive nature of the waiting staff and serving chefs.
When it comes to a score I think that it should be nearer 9.5, but that's just me. Hope you had a relaxing time after you finished your dessert, What cheeses did you opt for?

I thought the same thing. £65 probable isn't that much more than what you'd expect to pay for a steak and chips at Hawksmoor - and for certain cuts, maybe even cheaper.

Best i have ever seen buffet wise - love that they have some Hake, a very underrated fish which i absolutely love. Brilliantly filmed too as it really brings across how friendly and professional their staff are

Great video thanks Gary. I worked at that hotel in 2008, there were 99 chefs spread over seven kitchens. If you’re prepared to pay that for a meal then I think you should go to the Ritz Hotel for my suggestion of afternoon tea. Great review. Looking forward to the next one!

One thing I appreciate is that this gentleman does not overfill his plates like many people do when they visit such a restaurant. KUDOS to Gary. As a final note when Gary went back for his third visit to the food, the waitress left an additional napkin on the table for Gary, even though the second Napkin was still unused. Excellent service., the Glasshouse restaurant at the Grove Hotel in Watford.

@Gary Eats, I can't thank you enough for taking on the tough tasks not many, if any, of us would care to do: your devotion to this I find overwhelming!!!😆😆🤣🤣 ALL the food looked totally WOW and I think you were being more than a bit churlish in rating it anything below 10: just LOOK at the decor, feeling the ambience, quality all through the place, incl service, friendliness of the chefs/servers, free glass of prosecco. An EASY 10, mate.

Was unbelievable quality fraid i couldnt afford it but can tell it was worth it ...couldnt help but clock the family behind you working out that table must have cost four hundred pound for two hours meal serious money

The Grove is very plush. The England football team quite often stay there before big games. Buffet looks decent.

Value for money doesn't automatically mean cheap lots of cheap food places are not value for money

A fair review of what I saw and reasonably priced. Buffet meals suffer a bit because it's left served without being eaten straight away. The "apple" was a work of art.

That looked like a super experience, and I think there are lots of us who might choose this for a special meal. It's expensive yes, but not so expensive that it's un-doable for a lot of people for a treat. I must admit I wouldn't have thought of Watford as a destination for a gourmet lunch, but we live and learn! I guess it would be hard to mess up charcuterie but that did look like really good quality. But what followed looked really excellent. Meat? I'm a bit persnickety at Sunday lunch buffets but I like rib of beef, so long as it's good quality and properly cooked, but if ever any meat looks poor quality, or overdone, I'd rather just stick with all the veg! However I loved the look of that hake! Having watched this now, would I really want that variety of food at lunch? I'm not sure. It would probably be impossible to try it all in one sitting, but you did pretty well Gary. The desserts looked stupendous. What a shame I'm already too full..... 🤣 I'd give the whole thing a 9 out of 10 for the £65 price! And just avoid weekends. And I see you also gave 9! And you actually got to eat the food!

Hi Gary, nice shirt ! My score for the restaurant - 10 / 10. I know quality when I see it, even if it's on my computer monitor. 65 quid ? Well worth it ! This is the kind of meal you would have over a very relaxed 3 hours, either by oneself, or with a cameraman. I now go everywhere with a cameraman ! I used to feel self-conscious lunching by myself, but I'm all good now ! Thank you, my friend, for a very fine episode ! That buffet looked better, with a much bigger range , than what most 5 star hotels offer in Sydney.
