You rock dude. placing the batteries in the outside tube is fabulous. I got inspired by your USB lights you get from china and made my own from the dollar store by taking a standard led flashlite that uses 3 AA batteries and drilling a hole in the bottom. I cut up a scrap USB cable from an old cell phone, fed it thru the hole, and soldered the positive and negative leads to the inside connections. I tested it with anything that connects via usb and it works like a charm. if you leave the battery stuff intact then it can double as a regular flashlite. Cost me less then $3.
You got me thinking and playing so thanks for that.
    Keep up the great work.
    Cheers

Very nice design! You do very nice work. From first glance at the video thumbnail, I thought you were running the lights directly from the solar panel sitting on the dining room table. :-). I wonder if you would be better off using high value super caps instead of the Lithium batteries for intermittent high current use. Batteries are a pain, they never last as long as they are supposed to(In this case 2,000 cycles). Some manufacturers make inferior batteries. You end up replacing them, which is not cheap. The LiFePO4 batteries are good, and (4) in series is close in voltage to a lead acid battery, but there is always one battery in the bunch that ends up going bad. Operating a 200/250W load requires 20-25A off that 12.8v/10A battery pack, so you won't be able to run a heavy load for long periods of time. If you run a 120V/200W load for 5 minutes, it will take almost an hour in full sun with that 25 panel to put that charge back into the batteries.

Also, if I remove the fuse and reinsert it, the charge controller starts to beep, but the beep kinda sputters out then. I'll also mention that the inverter is pulling nothing. It might be because the battery is so low and hasn't been able to charge so that it can't pull anything though.

The demos appear to show devices requiring more than 2a running off of it (I'd, naively, expect the bench grinder and jig saw to draw in the 10a range)..

This feedback loop effect can dramatically increase efficiency in electrical systems.

Camping or short term storage of the camping vehicle. How hard would it be to make an output to charge or float charge your camping vehicle?
What the circuit would need to do is make the soln1 the priority charge. When its batteries are charged then it would continue to use the leftover available solar energy to charge or maintain the vehicle starting batteries. Versatility you know. :)

+triumphmanful Well....it is 20 amp hours....so it depends on your amp load. 1 amp will supposedly run then for 20 hours....5 amp for 4 hours...etc....but there are some caveats...
One is higher loads can have a larger drop in Voltage. And so you can have some voltage drop of 1/4 to 1 or so volts...thus limiting run time for higher wattage appliances. This NOT going to run a small microwave oven with 850 watt power consumption.
I am surprised he got the Jig Saw, and Drill press and grinder to work, and even the Blender...
I made a Two 100 amp hour battery Solar Generator set up with a 1500 watt inverter, I can run my microwave for around 26 minutes total. Around 8 three minute uses...with a tad to spare.
500 watts Peak power means for a few MOMENTS it will run up to that wattage to start a motor or something that needs a bit of power to get going, but it does not sustain that. My 400 watt inverter will not run that jig saw I am pretty sure. I CAN run my 2.2 amp at 115v WEED WHACKER no problem...that is around 18-19 amp at 12 volt. My 300 watt one cup tea maker will run on my 400 watt inverter. I have a 100 amp hour battery with the 400 watt Cobra Inverter.
This seems like a nice little unit.
