    After watching the Huncote video then this I just had to find it. I now live just outside Loughborough and with the aid of Google maps, straight to it. Absolutely amazed by it, Water levels a bit high today and all 3 arches had a decent flow. Again thanks for the great videos and no doubt I'll be trying to find some more of your great discoveries. 👍👍

    I grew up in Dishley in the 70s and 80s but we could only go so far upstream along blackbrook before reaching a barbed wire fence and rumours of a trigger happy farmer. So my first visit to this bridge was today, 40+ years later. Great video.

      Thank you. It's nice down there, well, it was nicer before they started building all the new houses! And yes, haha! There is always a trigger happy farmer! Thanks for watching.

    Great video, might take a rod and have a fish there. Glad the bridge has escaped the attentions of young tadgers with their aerosol paint !

      Plenty of fish in there mate! Not all tidlers either from what I remember! Yes I'm suprized by that...but this bridge is well known, and well used, I saw a lot of people when I was down there.

    Opens our eyes when you explain what we just walk passed. Was down there about a month ago with my walking group. Love Garendon park and am dreading what it will end up like with another 3,000 houses on it, so much history there, well done Steve, nearly did not recognise you without your cap on LOL

    • @LeiceExplore
      @LeiceExplore  Před 3 lety

      Thank you Patricia! Yes it's going to be devastating having more, and more houses built for sure...and yes, the cap has become part of me lol!

    Great video. Such a shame that much of the garendon estate is to be built upon over the next few years 😢

      Thank you! I know, it's painful to think...more houses...they call it progress...I strongly disagree with that.

    I took my son exploring around Loughborough today and visited Stonebow Bridge. For me it was the first time, but apparently my son first visited on a school trip. The bridge certainly looks like it could be the best part of a thousand years old.

    • @LeiceExplore

      It's really nice down there, but unfortunately it's soon gonna be surrounded by yet more housing unfortunately

      @@LeiceExplore Yes, too many houses already!
      Of course, Stonebow Bridge is not alone: there is an ancient packhorse bridge in Anstey, on the edge of Leicester, very similar to one in Bakewell, Derbyshire.

      @@LeiceExplore And if you like old bridges, the one in Baslow, Derbyshire, has a little stone hut where the toll keeper sat.

      Hi buddy. What's the best route to the bridge? I'd like to take my children there. Just don't know how to get to it. Thanks.

      @@life_in_the_wild2573 Hi! I tend to cycle everywhere, so I would recommend following the Black Brook upstream. There's a foot-cycle path all the way up to the bridge from the A6 Derby Road (not far from the golf range - miles down stream!). Of course you can pick up the path at any point along the way, I guess. The other route would be from Garendon park/estate. If you check the bridge location on Google Maps, you should be able to choose a route which suits you. It should be possible to park up on a nearby housing estate and walk the rest of the way. At least now it is fairly dry and not so muddy. I took my son there at the weekend. Enjoy!

      Thank you Theresa. Yeah get down there, it's nice down there, but unfortunately there going to be building more houses near it, so make the most of it. Thanks for watching.

      It certainly is Jane. It's just such a shame about all the new housing that's going to be built around there.

    The seat was apparently made in the 1990s as part of a trail and isn’t old at All. Sure looks like it tho !

    Hi, great video. Could anybody give me info on exactly how to get to this bridge from Loughborough? Like, where are the directions to get to the bridge or what's a close location? Would like to take my kids there. Many thanks.

    • @LeiceExplore
      @LeiceExplore  Před rokem

      Thank you. Its very difficult to give directions on here, but if you type in on a search engine Stonebow Bridge, I'm sure something will come up. It goes across the Blackbrook on the outskirts of loughborough close to Garendon Park on a publicly accessible path, so fortunately it is easy to find. Thanks for watching
