In many parts of the country, kids have to walk to and from school. There’s no bus option. Usually, the parents have to leave for work and don’t have the option to drop the kids off and don’t have the money to pay someone to take them. I know this because that was my childhood.

The suspect also pinched the child’s cheeks and told him how cute he was, the report said. When I was younger my neighborhood boys (who were also my age) let me walk home with them every day after school. I was embarrassed at first because my Father was disabled, my Mother worked long hours, and I felt like a burden. But they had my back without question. I grew very close with them and we all become childhood friends. My point is, don’t be afraid to ask your neighbors for help. Be the kind kid, be the safe parent, be there for others so people with bad intentions have a difficult time doing bad deeds.
I’m so happy this kid was smart and didn’t have anything bad happen. He reported it and hopefully this man will be caught. To the store owner, you are also a hero. You were so happy to help a stranger and a family that was afraid for their son. Wishing for justice.

Here u are defending a pedophiles life so they can assault more children when they should either lose their freedom for the rest of their sick lives or be put to death. They are the worst kind of scum, they aren't worthy to be called human. Personally, I think they should be shipped off to a remote island with little resources and they can assault each other til starvation finishes them. I was in the Palm Springs Wal*Mart yesterday and observed two small kids about five to seven years old. They were by themselves, completely unattended. Suddenly, the little girl realized that her mom was not around and she began to panic and called out for her mom, who was a couple of aisles away and called back that she was near. The boy, her brother, then went off by himself, leaving the little girl. A few minutes later, the inattentive mother was in panic, running around calling the boy by name. Two men came forward and told her they had seen the boy a few aisles over. I hoped that the scare was enough to make this careless mother be more attentive to her small children. Please, parents!!! Keep an eye on your kids!! Don't let them run around alone in stores while you shop. Let us all remember that that is the exact scenario that let to the kidnapping of Adam Walsh from a Sears store many years ago. He had been kidnaped, murdered and beheaded. Here, in the Calif. desert , it is a common practice to release convicted child molesters into the area after they complete their sentence. Child molesters are everywhere in both the high desert and the low desert. I lived in nearby Yucca Valley for 14 years and my next door neighbor was the former school superintendent who was a TWICE convicted child molester who had served his sentence and was released back into the town. If you live in the So. Calif desert, WATCH YOUR KIDS!!!!!!!

This isn’t coddling this is living in reality. I was allowed to walk home from middle and high school from 2009-2013. However, my parents have told me that if I was in school today, they would never let me walk home even though my house was a couple blocks from the school, and I agree. The video is enough to see what happened. Even though the boy reported something, it is up to the police to decide what to do with this "report". In my opinion, since an excellent video exists and enables to corroborate precisely what the boy has possibly reported, the police displayed its incompetency by losing time investigating a "non-event", then more time finding the guy, then more time trying to jail him. Finally, since it was obvious from the very beginning that no crime was committed, they got uselessly humiliated by the court decisions. Personally, being the victim, I would sue this local police in a big way, and also the peoples who made public this video.

Support law enforcement agencies and the communities that make it proud to be an American.

They failed miserably. This youngster TALKED to an unknown adult. Nobody was jailed. BOTH are still walking free today. Shame to America.

Safety seems to be a thing of the past! Be very aware and observant of your surroundings! Never stop for people, don’t talk; if someone comes too close or reaches for you, keep walking, running, driving!
Make noise, scream, call out, call 911!!!

I know a convicted rapist. He was complaining to me that groups that have young girls going to church, etc., with him don't want him around. He also told me that he was a home invader, thief and a bully using a baseball bat to attack people. I keep thinking how many crimes he did not get caught at. He is still around.
