Deconstructing Hip Hop: Remaking The Luniz's "I Got 5 On It" (produced by Tone Capone)

- West coast hip hop was tearing up the charts in 1995. The Luniz's "I Got 5 On It" was arguably one of the biggest songs to come out of Cali that year. Today I try my hand at covering the beat using Propellerhead's Reason 6.5. Not perfect... but pretty darn close. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Wow bro!! You did an excellent job on this track. I heard a lot of remakes before and you can tell it's a remake, but it is really hard to tell with this one. Two thumbs up!!!
This is one of the greatest Hip Hop tracks produced by anybody. Bar-none! Released in 1995 and in 2019 it still goes hard.
If I'm not mistaken, the vibraphone sound is a direct factory patch from the Casio CZs. This guy's demo: czcams.com/video/Y5gl_8cGHak/video.html has it at 4:54, but he has a bunch of added reverb.
And I'd consider it a possibility that the bass is from a CZ as well. It sounds more digital than analog.
Can you remake Dead Prez - Hip Hop always wondered how they made that epic bassline
Me too
Best bassline i've heard
Heads up Reason 7 users, UHHCHOIR preset is in NN19 sampler now.
2 years before I was born. This is a classic! I never really cared for this song but after you broke it down, I think I am starting to have a deeper appreciation for this. And I heard a mix of Funk Flex cutting this up on hot 97.
Why not just find Tone Capone via e-mail or something and ask him what he did? dude can't be that hard to find considering all the tracks that he has done.
Thank you!!! I have been looking for these kind of vids for some time. For some reason they aint that easy to find
Dude, you're good! You should really do "Harder than you think" by Public Enemy. That would be a good one for sure!
awesome job
Sounds good

Redrum = Red Rum?
I thought Redrum = Re-Drum?
Correct me if I'm wrong...
C Jackson redrum = mureder...
@@CrazYYzarD no, redrum = murder
@@notavailable7830 Correct. It's from the movie "The Shining". The son repeats it.
I knew out was a matter of time before you deconstructed this. Props
Youre wrong. TIMEX Social Club- Thinkin About Ya. Thats where this beat REALLY Originated from.
Good job. Are you sure that the drums were 808s I think they were 606s a lot of westcoast stuff back then were using the 606
One of your better deconstructions!
Do Natural Born Killaz from Dre and Ice Cube
