    The BNSF merger was in 1996- the holding companies merged in 1995 and the railroads finally got into BNSF a year later.

    Merger was in September of 1995, official in 1996 and the official name BNSF in 2005 when the swoosh logo came out.

    Did you mean the BNSF merger of 1996, instead of 1993? I was living in Colorado Springs, CO, near the "Joint Line", (AT&SF and DRG&W) in the mid 90's. (Now the BNSF UP) I recall seeing the Santa Fe's War Bonnet Red and Silver Dash 8-40-CWs and SD75s. At the time, the Burlington Northern was bringing coal from the Powder River Basin, to the Drake Utilities Power Plant in Down Town Colorado Springs, as well as in Texas and other places. In that time, the BN began receiving their SD70MAC locomotives, delivered in their "Executive Scheme" wearing BN initials in the front of them and assigned them to their unit coal trains. However, the older SD40-2 locomotives were still being used on a few coal trains and some were "deployed" as helper units to get these trains over the Palmer Divide. In 1996, the SD70MAC locomotives were being delivered in the "Executive" Scheme and had "BNSF" on the sides of them, indicating the BNSF Merger had recently taken place earlier that year.

    Found out BNSF built 50 new GEVO locomotives this year. 25 ES44ACH numbered 3282-3306, and 25 ET44ACH numbered 3650-3674. They are all in H3 paint and they use raised letter K5HL horns except for 3284, 3285, and 3674 which uses a raised letter K5HLA. 3284 and 3285 are hybrids while 3674 is normal. The hybrid K5HLA's used 1L, 1, 2, 3, and 4A while the normal one uses the same bells like the K5LLA, 1L, 1, 2, 3A, and 4A.

    What you refer to “h1 swoosh” is what most people refer to has “h4” and are almost exclusively painted onto yard and local power. The actual h1 is on the dash 9s ordered and delivered Immediately after the merger with the green and orange and are numbered in the 900s to 1000s. Great video in general however.

  • @SouthwestRailroadPhotography

    1st Fakebonnets don’t exist. 2nd the merger happened in 1996. 3rd BNSF 700 > 792 are former Santa Fe units and former road numbers are ATSF 717 for example. I do have proof of this claim from sources in BNSF. 4th Warbonnets that have BNSF red lettering such as the B40-8W are original Santa Fe units, just because it says BNSF in red doesn’t mean it wasn’t legit. There is 2 types of Warbonnets, BNSF version and ATSF version. Nothing in between.

    • @yeahman70
      @yeahman70 Před rokem +5

      Uhhh, no. Fakebonnets do exist. They are the BNSF version of the Warbonnet paint. And, BNSF 700-799 are not former Santa Fe units. They were built after the merger, and have always had BNSF lettering. BNSF 600-699 were the Dash 9s originally owned by Santa Fe, which is why those had the Santa Fe war bonnet paint scheme

      ATSF numbers 600 through the 799 number are orders by ATSF. Though some sport the BNSF patch due to the merger happening during production of the units.
      Number series 4700+ are orders by BNSF and those are the "fakebonnets".

      @@brandoncarstensen1637 all units 700-799 as well as those early 4700 series units were delivered with BNSF lettering, so those are the fakebonnets. They were ordered by ATSF but delivered to BNSF

    • @yankeesforlife24
      @yankeesforlife24 Před 6 měsíci

      @@yeahman70fake Bonnet is a foamer term. The “war bonnet” is a color scheme, not how the units are marked. The warbonnet refers to the old atsf f7 in the 50s so no fake bonnet doesn’t exist.
