In 1974, I was 18 years old (do the math 😊). Cat Stevens' music was an important part of my life at the time. His poetic lyrics spoke to me as I was going through a very difficult time in my life. The emotional wounds of those days are healed, only the scars remain. I'm getting older now. My hair and beard are white. My eyesight grows weaker. I move slower. I miss my younger days, but I have wonderful memories and I have experienced love. "Oh very young, what will you leave us this time, you're only dancing on this earth for a short while..."
Keep dancing. Keep loving.

That was my high school graduation song from boarding school. For years we couldn't wait to leave but that day we were sad and scared. This song takes me back to 17 years old. Beautiful.

This is one of the sweetest Cat Stevens songs. I remember when it was first released. I was a teenager, going through teenage stuff. Now, I'm in my 60's, and this song reaches me so very differently. We are only dancing on this Earth for a short while, after all. Enjoy every minute you can. Love as much as you can. Life is for the living of it.
In 1974 some 50 years ago. Cat Stevens had an album titled "Budda and the Chocolate Box." On that album was this song "Oh Very Young." Cat Stevens is a very spiritual person who was always looking for spiritual meaning in his life. He chose Islam as his spiritual choice and adopted a new name calling himself Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens. Always love your reactions on one of the greatest Folk Rockers and singer/songwriters ever. Moonshadow is great, simple but great
Cat Stevens was wise before his time and wrote lyrics that were deep and thought-provoking. He has a huge catalog of excellent music that you can not go wrong with. This song dates itself with the line about the patches on your dad's best jeans making the goodbye harder still. I used to throw away Levi jeans in the 60s and 70s with holes in them and people wear jeans with holes in them now. I loved your reactions.

My late twin sister loved this song so much, probably because she'd had a premonition that she was going to die young and it somehow comforted her. When she died of cancer at age 49 I had this song played at her memorial service. This song always makes me think of her and tears are always close by when I hear it.

In the early 70’s I got to see him in Memphis- he opened for David Bowie.
His lyrics really touched my soul
His song Sad Lisa is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written. It is a very emotional song that will give you chills.
A brilliant artist. Maybe one day you might review his opus "Foreigner Suite" a lyrical and musical tour de force.
p.s. I was so enamoured by his lyrics that after hearing his song "Katmandu" I eventually (1976) hitch hiked my way there and wasn't disappointed 😁
I was young and impressionable but to this day I'm grateful for how much his music influenced me.

A lovely song! Early 70's he was my favorite singer/songwriter. Just as you mentioned talking too much.......I did hop in the shower during your break. I missed no part of the song. .....🙂 It was quite funny to race you to the music starting again. May I suggest 'Saturn', "Touch" or "Sorrow" by Sleeping at Last. If you hear one, you'll want to hear the others. Another special songwriter.

Have always loved Cat Stevens' music. Great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his "Tea For The Tillerman" (1970). The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Matthew & Son", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "Father & Son" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.

Cat Stevens was quite popular with his folk music. I listened to him a lot. Then he became Muslim, and I never heard anything more about him after that.
His choice, by the way... he left his musical career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim Community... wasn't sure if your "tone" was a dig or anything... just wanted to throw that out there 😉

You should react to "Morning Has Broken" by Cat. It's an adaptation of an English church hymn that Rick Wakeman (the keyboardist in the original lineup of Yes) was playing around with on piano when Cat was waiting in the recording studio between takes. He had Wakeman make up a formal arrangement of it and the rest is history.

That was irritating, but I still like his music. It's like the situation with Roger Waters not supporting Ukraine. Extremely irritating.
Cat Stevens was always one of my favorite singers. Since converting to Islam, which does not allow him to perform with women, the female parts of this song are now sung by men which totally ruins the song.
