    one thing to say: have you ridden on the tram line 5? that's one of the most unique tram routes in whole Europe (it's one of the only that has a dispatcher to dispatch the tram), it would be a bummer if you haven't seen it

      The line had been closed and there was bus replacement. And to make things worse, the old tram on line 38 in Bytom has just been replaced. Very disappointing.

    About range BEBs
    -If it's short range (like the Moscow ones, which on full charge only run 50-70 kms, also they're infamous for replacing the trolleybuses there) and they use a pantograph (either the reverse one like in the video or the one that comes built on top of the bus) then it's pretty much impractical, because you can't change the route since the infrastructure has been built, nor you can extend it because there won't be enough charge to either complete a full loop or one way of a route + if they have such ridiculous short range that means that MORE buses must be used and that can create a bus jam at the terminuses because one's charging (5-15 minutes) while others wait, creating a discrepancy in the timetables and leading to a service collapse. So basically half of the day you wait in queue and the other half you charge and drive the bus.
    -If it's long range then in most cases it can be better, whether it's an overnight charge-only bus or it uses a pantograph. If it comes with a long range (from 150-400 kms, Milan ones have 180-250 kms, although it depends on the specs of the models) then all the stuff quoted above that a short range bus can't do, can be done by a long range one. For example if a long range one uses a pantograph, it doesn't necessarily need to charge after every loop of a route, it can do 2-3 and THEN charge for 7 minutes gaining one loop of charge back. If they only rely on overnight charge, then they can be used on very short routes while still completing most of the schedule for the day + they often get deployed on routes with the least traffic, as a tactic, to make sure that they're reliable and can be out for a whole day without creating any service disruption. If the "test" goes well, then they start coming on more trafficked routes, phasing out the diesel ones.

    Nicely edited video, hope you enjoyed Ostrava. But I am sad how everybody from west thinks that Tatras have "east european look". The origin of Tatras came from American PCC. And Czechoslovakia factory made many Tatra by czechoslovakian ideas, not east european. Yes, many vehicles were made for Soviet union😪. Thats why you maybe think that it is east european, hope not soviet. But our CS Tatras were sent also to Germany, 70s Yugoslavia, Poland and Egypt and Philippines. We dont like to be compared to east europe, especially nowadays not... Look for example at KTM type, thats true east european look. 🙂

      Funily enough KTM and Polish Konstal 13N (and follow ups) were reverse ingeniered from Tatras.

    Curiosity about the KT8 trams: Tram with the registration number 1500 is oldest (still operating) tram of this type in whole world. Of cource - it is upgraded to the low floor and one directional but still... :)
    And the Solaris at the end of the video is not diesel but CNG - it it recognasible by the shape of roof (the are also small stickers on the bus) and abowe the side line panel - behind the middle door). It is easy to recognize them - diesel have green panels and CNG orange or white (wwhite are the newest 4th facelifted generation).
    Video is fine - that section about Solaris is just explanation and it is not meant offensive :)

    Beno, what camera do u film with

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 2 lety +1

      Redmi Note 10 Pro. It is very good value for money. The main camera is very good in low light and has good dynamic range. The wide camera produces a great viewing angle but can't handle anything but well lit scenes otherwise the dynamic range gets poor. This does make it a compromise sometimes between viewing angle and dynamic range which is annoying. Redmi devices are very good. They are amazing value for money. Mine cost £180. Xiaomi now have two brands Redmi and Mi. With Mi devices, they more aimed to compete with Samsung, and compared to Samsung they are good value, but in real world value, they are not good value for money anymore. They charge around £500 for a snapdragon 800 series. While Redmi devices cost around £150 to £200 for Snapdragon 600 and 700 devices. To be honest, the latest snapdragon 700 series is barley noticeably slower than 800, and the difference in price is crazy. Also I would say that the Latest snapdragon 800 devices are rarely have there processing power fully utilized, so there is no reason to buy a 800 over a 700. The only downside of Redmi over Mi is that the wide camera isn't as good (while the main camera is almost as good). This is annoying as wide angle good so much nicer when filming lifts. But it simply isn't worth paying £500 instead of £180 just for this.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 2 lety +2

      The trams are 1 to 3 coaches long. The platforms are 6 coaches long. This is so that in some stop where many different trams lines stop at, they can have two 3 car trams serve the stop at the same time.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes. The stupid cash machine charged me £6.50 just to withdraw money. I don't normally withdraw money, but I was told that the bus driver only accepts cash. Turns out that the bus driver did accept card all along. I wasted £6.50 on a stupid cash machine, which cost me more than the flight which cost £4.99. Plus now I have Czech bank notes that I don't know what to do with. Oh well looks like I will have to visit Brno sometime so the money doesn't go to waste.
