    Man I have only recently begun watching David Vizard a few months ago. I stumbled upon his channel doing research for my car, specifically cam selection, and I have been very impressed. To find out you two are working together is exciting! I am glad I didn't pull the trigger on a cam much earlier because I got a lot of useful information that will help me get better performance.
    I took my car to the strip a while back. I'll have to find the slips but I ran similar numbers (was in the 13s with about 104ish trap speed). Of course, this is in a 5.7L Challenger not an ecoboost Mustang. I think your numbers are very believable and the 60' times do play a huge role in overall E/T. If I had been able to better control wheel spin I may have had identical numbers to yours, but doing that with street tires and little to no practice is difficult.

    I'm noticing a narrative change in why gasoline was leaded. Them saying it was greedy companies instead of a necessary evil or lack of a reasonable substitute. Could you maybe talk about it a little?

    • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles
      @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles  Před 9 měsíci +3

      I think I have talked about a little bit here: czcams.com/video/NJP7iouMwsE/video.htmlfeature=shared . The short version is that lead increases the fuel's octane rating. That's the reason they used it. The down side was that it would foul the spark plugs faster. The reason leaded fuel was eliminated for use in cars from 1975 and on was because that's when they added catalytic converters, and leaded gas is not compatible with them. It's now said that leaded fuel is bad for the environment. That's probably true, but I don't know that it's that bad. For example 100 Low Lead used at airports has 10 times the lead of leaded auto gasoline, yet nature thrives at airports to the point that it's a problem and they have programs to kill animals and birds to deal with it.

    • @chickenfishhybrid44
      @chickenfishhybrid44 Před 9 měsíci

      I've noticed the same thing. Something like there was an alternative to lead but the companies didn't want to spend the money. Kind of like the narrative that electric cars were always great, but it was a conspiracy that stopped them instead of poor battery tech.

      While you can’t deny what you said is true, the way lead accumulation shows itself in animal populations/nature is in food chain tops, so birds of prey or ducks or fish in the airport environment if there is water. You usually see high lead accumulation in these populations, while the animals the reproduce less aren’t great markers.

    Greg, are you familiar with Matt Happel of the Sloppy Mechanics Garage in Pennsylvania? He’s the master at making cars go fast with stock engine components on pump gasoline. He might have some tricks you might not yet know. He mainly specializes in LS’s though. He’s the reason why Ford Fairmont prices rose globally, and why people automatically assume they’re fast, whenever a Fairmont shows up at the drag strip or Car show.

    • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles
      @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I assume a Fairmont is fast because there is literally no reason to own one except that it's the lowest priced vehicle that you can easily put a V8 into. They are so cheap that they leave a lot of money for the engine. My Grandfather had a V8 Fairmont back in the late 70s with a factory 302. It was quick for the time.

      I bring up that block because of Ford's proclivities towards that particular I-4 displacement going back. In that regard, as far as the current Ford I-4 Turbo "Family "goes- what are the differences/commonalities between the engine/ECU tuning in your Mustang, and the Focus RS?
      And, another reason I bring up the SVO- I saw a street race between a "tweaked" SVO and a Merkur XR4Ti (remember those??). I saw this unfold from behind, so not sure who won, but, I just remember how quick those, and, the then Brand-new Taurus SHO 5 speed were.

    A friend has the V6 version of this engine. His cam phasers went crazy. The Ford dealership cannot fix it. They do not have properly trained technicians. Soon after the warranty expires, all these cars will go to the bone yard. The lifetime carbon footprint of ICE cars could have been much smaller if they were not so complicated. A V-8 mustang from 10 years ago with 15-10 mpg has smaller carbon footprint than this.

      The old time stuff still maters. You can get pretty far with tuning. In the case of this car you can get another 50whp out of it with tuning and still be quite safe. However beyond that and you really start to need actual hardware, and there are EcoBoosts running 500hp and more, those usually have very serious internal engine mods, including head work and cams.

    I would do an update on the rules, Greg.
    When you say "Intercooling: you can do whatever you want.", that opens the door to get the intake charge down to very low temperatures and corresponding high densities, completely within the rules, as stated.
    Evaporative cooling via spraying pre-chilled mixtures containing alcohols would be just one way to do it.
    A liquid-to-air intercooler running the liquid mentioned above would be another way to tackle it.
    I don't know if that would produce the desired times, but I would definitely try it, as perhaps others will, or are already doing it.

    • @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles
      @GregsAirplanesandAutomobiles  Před 9 měsíci +1

      You make good points. I'm not too worried about someone running liquid to air because it's more work than one of the many air to air units on the market right now, it's more expensive and would only offer a very small advantage. It's much the same with an intercooler sprayer. Someone could rig up an intercooler sprayer for the stock intercooler, but that won't be as effective as a better intercooler.

    • @chickenfishhybrid44
      @chickenfishhybrid44 Před 9 měsíci

      I once attempted to rig up an intercooler sprayer on my 2.0T optima the night before a little airport drag event deal just for fun. Was going to be very hot that day. I didn't expect any actual gains from it other than hoping to mitigate some of the heat soaking issues. I just used a washer pump/reservoir assembly I had laying around from a 80s Toyota pickup, vacuum line and a small mister type sprinkler head deal. I simply ziptied the sprinkler to the inside of the grill in front of the intercooler and ran it off a toggle switch. Kind of worked, but i didn't put much effort into it and didn't do any sort or verification of temps.

      @@chickenfishhybrid44 Multiple injection points would be ideal. Water/alcohol mixture. Placing the sprayers not too far from the heat exchanger in order to take full advantage of evaporative cooling, but far enough so that they cover a reasonable area.
      A lot of variables go into it from my theoretical knowledge which I have yet to put into practice.

So he was stuck at the gas station for about 10 minutes while his truck updated cuz it doesn't let you start. I would be so pissed if my truck did that. He also have bird poop on a sensor on the windshield up by the rear view mirror that because it was bird poop on it his truck wouldn't go over 40 because it said there was an impact detected 😂. I love technology I got smart stuff everywhere but I do not want my car to have any of these computers in it. I like my backup camera that's his fancy as I want to get in my truck. I definitely don't like where Ford's going and Congress is going with this automatic shutdown if they think you're driving recklessly or if they sent alcohol in the vehicle yeah they want to put sensors in and they'll shut down the vehicle if it senses alcohol which is going to be so wrong all the time because I'm eating candy and drinking a Red Bull right now so the sugar coming off my breath is going to trick the sensor into thinking I'm drunk as hell.
