Those are kind words. I only addressed the 4 main aspects: air filter, oil filter, plugs and oil. I'll be making a follow up video for the other inspection and adjustment points to cover on a regular inspection service
I’d put a clean cloth over those intakes while working to avoid any possible foreign object contamination into engine. Also very careful of open spark plug holes.🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️
Bel lavoro grazie della condivisione! Domattina cambierò l’olio e il filtro olio. Sono a 10.500km. Filtro aria e candele aspetterò almeno 20.000/25.000 km ma lo farò fare in officina: troppo complesso! Bravo 👍
Very interesting. 👍👍. At under 10,000 miles that's quite early to change spark plugs and air filter. To be honest, that air filter didn't look bad, just surface dirt but when you flipped through the filter the inner paper looked clean. The electrodes on even the new spark plugs looked very thin. 🤷🏼♂️. Anyway, better safe than sorry.
Thanks for making this video. I noticed that at 16.08 you can see a scrubbing point on the black pipe you are holding, which could become a hole at some stage. Not sure if you should be concerned, but at least you can keep an eye on it. Cheers
Hi, thank you for sharing this. Does your bike have the standard air/fuel tuning or did you remap the ECU? 5000 km ago I did the fuel remap and now I'm curious to see how different is the colouring of my spark plugs compared to the stock tuning.
Basically if she’s running well in clean type roads not dusty off road you can go without air filter and plug change. Oil is super easy change out and well worth doing realistically once per year with top quality synthetic 10-40 oil and filter. Same with glykol ~ wasser coolant.

It can be done but NGK recommend against it due to the brittle nature of the metals used, especially the inner electrode. The old ones on my bike were also a bit pitted, which is a good sign that it's time to replace them.
in only 15k km there is absolutely no sense to check or replace spark plugs as well as that air filter. You could do it in 50k km but modern iridium plugs lasts till, 100k km easily.
Like many jobs, having the right tools is key to making the task as easy as possible. I found the most difficult part was getting the spark plugs out, until I got the right adaptor.
Undoubtedly one of ther best maintenance videos out there for this bike. Thanks!

@@DerekHerbst747 I envie your knowledge and manual capabilities. SO GREAT!
Perhaps it would’ve been a good idea to wash the bike especially around the oil filter.
Very useful video 👍
Good job. It purrs like a kitten. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for making this. Especially the various connectors, usually a source of angst for me.

Hi Derek , a really great service aid clip you made here . Regards
Mate great job and very informative....thanks
Love that flat green colour. Sadly we don't get it here in Canada.

Thanks for pointing it out. You have some eagle eyes! I'll check on that in the morning.
Whew! I think I'll just bring it to the dealer for maintenance.

The bike is totally standard.

Agreed, oil change is vital. However I prefer to do the full service.

you must have a lot of miles on your Z to have worn the spark plugs like that
Nice
Thank you.
Very nice job ! Question: what was the torque for the spark plugs, oil filter and drain bolt ? Thanks in advance!
I have always set them all firmly hand tight. I honestly don't know the torque values.
Hey Derek, one more question: did you disconnect the battery before removing the spark plugs? Thanks in advance!
@@anggell35 no I left it connected. Just turn off the bike and remove the key.
@@DerekHerbst747 thanks! So, you did not have any faulty codes popping out afterwards?
@@anggell35 nope
When you undo the fuel line under the tank with the red clip does fuel come out of the tank?
Not even a drop
You guys don’t wash the bike before you work on it ?
Is it ok to gap plugs which have gone out of spec?
It can be done but NGK recommend against it due to the brittle nature of the metals used, especially the inner electrode. The old ones on my bike were also a bit pitted, which is a good sign that it's time to replace them.
These are iridium plugs, which are more likely to break when trying to bend the ground lug.

Service manual says you are wrong. Every 12000km equals plugs change. Every 4000km is air filter change.

Nobody called out plugs at 15k? Insane.
Hello Mr Herbst. I sended you a sms. I hope you have still the same number. Greetings.😊
Quite the ordeal getting to air filter & plugs..not user friendly at all.
Like many jobs, having the right tools is key to making the task as easy as possible. I found the most difficult part was getting the spark plugs out, until I got the right adaptor.
I think this is pretty much standard procedure for most modern bikes.
