Backstory
The song is a Tribute to a living legend, Cheptegei.
I was inspired to make a song about him after seeing Uganda win a Gold medal in the from the athletes after a very long time.
Uganda hadn’t won Gold or silver since John Aki bua who in 1986, was a recipient of the Silver Olympic Order.
So he brought back that Glory, a Huge milestone for Uganda 🇺🇬
It all started when he won gold medals for the 5000 m and 10,000 m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. So being the Kampala Boy, representing for Uganda as well on that international Flex, the only way to celebrate was no better way than to put it in a song, so alongside the producer, Mio Made we created the instrumental and i laid the hook.
After i recorded the hook, I didn’t get to record the verses for almost three years and in 2021 when I was compiling my album,, the Kampala Boy I reached out to Navio, Fik Fameica and Mozelo and they all loved the idea of giving him his flowers while he is still alive, I mean he deserves them because he has gone ahead to win more gold and silver medals ever since he started winning on that international level.
He is also still the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000 meters and silver medalist for the 10,000 meters, a two-time 10,000 m World champion from 2019 and 2022 so there is no stopping him and to me and others out there, he is an inspiration.
In the lyrics, I say run this game like Cheptegei.
Basically, whatever your “game” is here I mean whatever field of work you are in be it the corporate world or the creatives etc you should be confident enough to believe you can run it and win at it.
I also talk about Robert Katende (Robert Katende with the moves)who is a good chess player and known for mentoring Phiona Mutesi, Uganda's first woman candidate master chess player and the subject of a 2012 book by Tim Crothers & 2016 film Queen of Katwe.
Navio delivers like the OG he is in the game while Mozelo's delivery and approach has a new school touch to it.
In Fik Fameica’s verse, he talks about coming from Kawempe Bombo Road to now a champion something wesaw that like from his sold-out last concert.
