I built something very much like this for around my ranch a few years back just before undergoing major back surgery (anything to ease the work load!). I found that the string was not practical and decided to go with those nylon cutting blades. Much more reliable, stronger & lasts far longer so less maintenance and provided for a more precision in matching its diameter to the bumper rail. This worked perfectly! I also tried several pulley combinations. For what its worth, the one in this video looks like it could use a bit more speed so a smaller one over the cutter or a larger one at the mower would do it but maybe it was just running a little show for demonstration purposes. Beautiful design and appears to be built to last! Thanks for sharing.
@@Mr.Beastforpresident I dont recall the brand but back then, before Amazon, I'm pretty sure they came from Home Depot. These days there are an endless list of styles on Amazon if you search for "trimmer nylon blades". I would start on CZcams first where guys are showing off various trimmer heads and blade styles. There are also individual cutting strings that are sort of between a blade and a string in that they are very flexible but last much longer than string and are less aggressive than a blade. It's all just a click away! Good luck.
I was just going to suggest a few more revs wouldn't hurt. Steel strimmer blade could be a good option too as long as the bump rail didn't fail! Great work!

Why isnt this a commercially available option?! It makes sense and "cuts" your workload and time way down. I would love to do something like this, maybe when I have the time...

Ciao...ho visto sia questo video che quello della versione definitiva... Ho letto che hai delle foto per aiutare nella costruzione, saresti così gentile da aiutare anche me? Sono alla ricerca di una cosa del genere ma per tagliare erba alta. Ti ringrazio in anticipo. 😉
No mower deck on the mower...... I can literally do this job faster with a weed eater on foot and do a far better job. Sometimes being lazy just ain't good enough.

Where did you buy the nylon blades? Brand? Are they on Amazon?

Grazie mille, Buona giornata.
As long as you have that bar to protect the plants and poles, why not just use a metal blade? Looks like a great design, though!
Agree, at least the blade length will stay consistant that way.
Do you have a how to video? I really need this very bad thank you
Brilliant.... simplest solution elegantly executed. Congrats!

Love it...I was just thinking about making something like this and your video demonstrates pretty much what I had in mind!
