Excellent video. I will be doing this swap in a month or so. I'll definitely be following.

@@TinCupOutdoorsyes, the current project is a 3800 Supercharged Pontiac Fiero conversion, it's in the home-stretch. Then a 1985 Westfalia Vanagon will be completed. I'll be posting some videos later this year.

Wouldn’t it be great if the only item to make the swap was that $170 input shaft ? Redundant , I know , but this guy’s knowledge/ability is sooo beyond most that I’m far too hella intimidated within the first 30secs of the video … that I’d only attempt this if all of the troubleshooting and mods AND modified parts , etc. had already been done and were sitting in my shop. Lol , and maybe an 8-part paint-by-numbers step-by-step video series to hold my hand throughout . I’m impressed .

Thanks! These swaps can be very simple if you have enough money to spend! I'm poor so I have to figure it out the hard way haha

Still working on it, got the motor in and crossmember all done. Working on harness and oil pan now. Unfortunately I had to pull the trans out again (4th time now) of my 72 bus. Once I finish that I'll work on the vanagon again!

Great work man. You are quite a bit farther than I am!
Got a question for you. I am trying to run my TDI at 15 degrees and I am in need of a bell housing. Would that LUK clutch fit into the gas bellhousing? Then I would just need to find an adaptor plate. Also, do you still have the gas bellhousing and are you interested in parting ways with it?

      Hey oli,
Sorry for the late response, if you use a diesel bell housing the dmf will fit at any angle. Not sure on fitment with gasser bell housing. As of right now I'm planning on keeping my gasser housing in case I ever want to subi swap it

@@TinCupOutdoors all good! And no problem. I did some more digging as well. Gasser bell housing is a no go with dual mass flywheel.
If you want to run the engine at 50 degrees, ultimate engineering in the uk sells a oil pan adaptor. Check them out. They look amazing.
If you want to run the tdi at 20 degrees, they also sell an adaptor plate that works with the vanagon diesel bell housing to run it at 20 degrees. That is the route I’m going to go.
