Tip to cover Tear Stains, Updated Face Wash Routine (2023)

My most asked question - How do you keep her (my Maltese) face so white?
Paris has tear stains, always did. At one time I was diligent with washing her face; they were less noticeable. I admit, I've slacked off on her face washing for a couple of years, her stains worsen. I'm back into a routine of washing her face every other day like I do in this video.
Paris still hates every second of it. 😅

Did you find this to be the solution for your dog? My problem is once I get the tear stains wiped up, a few hours later her eyes have teared up again! Have you had that issue?

⁠@@suziepeck5717 she hasn’t ingested it due to the placement of her stains. I would check with the vet if concerned your pup could ingest it. It is a small amount being applied to the face that gets absorbed. I imagine if it were a large dose, like a tablespoon worth being applied, then I’d be concerned.

@@beautybyparis2926 yeah my vet has kind of got me on my own with this. We have checked for infection. The next thing we are doing is seeing a Veterinary ophthalmologist in march. In the meantime I just keep trying different things. I have heard that baking soda with water and make it into a paste and leave it on for a little while, is safe. So I might try that.

Do the tear stains ever really go away though? Doesn't the cornstarch fall off or out?

For some, yes they do go away. If Adding a heavy amount of cornstarch, you will see it. I try not to be heavy handed when applying to avoid mess.
Once on the coat, it doesn’t fall out, it’s being absorbed to help keep area dry.

@beautybyparis2926 well I haven't tried cornstarch yet. So then you don't mix the cornstarch with water to take the stains away? You just apply the cornstarch as a way to help camouflage the stains? I'm not sure it would do me any good as my girl's eyes tend to be active throughout the day, or tear. She's never 100% dry on her fur in eye area.
