      @H N gta has the same level of ai (as in pretty horrible), of course gta has better physics because the game is literally built off of how objects interact with each other (that comparison is like saying botw has better physics than wind water). lastly gta 5 had a budget of $260 million and was sold for $60 (and still is), while mafia likely had a sub 50 million dollar budget and is sold for $40 msrp

      Mafia 3 is definitely less intensive than Mafia Definitive Edition. Im running both games on the lowest settings, because I'm running the minimum ram for both games (I'm currently too broke to upgrade my PC lol) and Mafia 3 ran at a smooth 45 FPS with minimal stuttering throughout. Mafia Definitive ran at 30 FPS with frequent dips into the 20s and heavy moments of freezing. Cutscenes would freeze, it would freeze while going into/exiting menus, it would freeze if you tried to vault over something while in cover, it would freeze while going into the garage, while getting on a motorcycle, while being chased by police, etc. And it would freeze for 1 to 2 minutes. Maybe even sometimes 3 or 4. I beat the game, but all in all the game froze probably 20+ times.
      So I'm guessing that means Mafia DE has the more advanced systems graphically, despite both supposedly having the exact same minimum requirements as far as specs go. Or maybe Mafia 3 is just more refined, because apparently a lot of people experienced the same freezing I did with much higher end PCs.

      Giving 2K Czech the same treatment for their Mafia 2 development would be a massive compromise because not only Mafia 2 was (originally) conceived with really ambitious ideas and vision that would demands just equally if not more financial backing, but it would also lead for "self-competing" between two apex games of the niche and that they couldn't properly maximize their profit.

    7:01 One interesting part about the GI for me, I might be wrong but it seems that the implementation is real time, and this is evident if you enter on any rooms with open windows the game will dynamically streams the indirect lighting and light bounces from the direct lighting (which possibly suggest that the "static" direct lighting is rendered in real time as well). I think it's pretty mindblowing if that's the case.

One of the things that has often been said is that Rockstar games are often most impressive because you can get lost in the detailed worlds they create and you feel like another inhabitant of their creation. I definitely think they go for immersion when creating their worlds and would like to see where they go next with small details like this that can make a big difference.
      The Mafia speed limit mechanic is just a suggestion as I think it works really well in making players feel like they have to follow the rules of the game world even though they can easily break them. Although the Mafia remake is an amazing experience I wish they would drop that engine they use. It has some fundamental problems that can destroy the game in a matter of seconds
    (1) You can kill shadows in dark areas or at high speed.
    Mostly found in Mafia 3 but seen throughout Mafia 1 is the abundance of dead shadows in which the engine can't calculate the surroundings so ( speeding up to the dam in mafia 1) will result in the ground being jet-black and your charcter turning into a Simpsons charcter with a yellow hue to their skin
    (2) Vampire mirrors
    Ever since they started using the new engine with Mafia 3 the reflections in mirrors have disappeared or glitched out entirely this is made even more jarring when you take into account the beautiful screen spaced reflections used elsewhere in the world and the fact these reflections worked in their previous engine
    (3) WTF its broken
    The entire engine can break completely at points and even if you delete the game and reinstall it there's still a plethora of problems that perpetuate the experience.

      @@renmorpheus Nice, someone agrees! Honestly I find it hard to believe Mafia II was written by Vavra, he only left 1 year before release, and all of the cut stuff was just side mission stuff, not themes/character writing. I excused Mafia 1's issues by saying he was only 23 when he wrote the script, but now I'm having my doubts about him. It's just generic gangster stuff. Vito as a character sucks compared to Joe. His mom and sister aren't all that compelling, neither are the other gangsters, compared to Paulie and Salieri from the remake.

    • @renmorpheus
      @renmorpheus Před 3 lety +3

      @@henrywinters9496 I mean to be fair, dialogue in OG Mafia was quite bad too, but Vavra nailed the overall plot and the choice of time period helped make it interesting despite the genre trappings. And yeah, there was a human quality to the characters which pretty much only Joe and Henry did in 2 (Kind of sad, really, because the voice work was generally very strong).
      Pacing also was quite over the place, the plot too loosely connected.
      DE was definitely a step-up in all these aspects compared to both, so I can only hope Hangar's writers now can do that too with a new game (As Mafia III's plot was rather thin and devoid of interesting plot points) ^^
