Botanical Tour at the Gothenburg Botanical Gardens - Ep. 185
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 12. 08. 2020
- I was encouraged to go visit the Gothenburg Botanical Gardens in Sweden while en route to my trip to Asia on account that my friend, Andrew, said it was one of the most beautiful botanic gardens he's ever been too. Well, that is quite the recommendation!
It was raining on-and-off while we were there in autumn, but we did get a chance to see some of the fall landscape, tour the subtropical and tropical houses, the orchid house, the private Dionysia collection, and even the propagation and succulent house. This will be the first video of a three-part series and this first part is very meditative-so sit back, relax, and enjoy!
Please keep in mind that this film was done pre-coronavirus, so wearing masks and staying a 'safe' distance was not required, but thank you to all who express concern.

really love how this garden is curated. Even in the carnivorous section, it was designed specifically for kids. What's more inspirational is, they worked out strategies that allow kids to get 'touchy' with the plants instead of just imposing restrictions, and at the same time keep the species safe in another area. True spirit of education right there.
Rightfully so. It was so well done-throughout the entire garden. The education wasn't so "in your face"....instead it was right before you in your hands.
I used to be the head gardener of GB Botanical, its a fantastic place and Ă sa is lovely, Great that you have been there. I left it to be closer to my family and cut a 2 hour one way daily commute out of my life, but my years there will always be special to me. and frankly I'm slowly turning my garden and house into my personal botanic paradise instead
Anders StĂ„lhand I used to work in a botanic garden, and it is a labour of love. Itâs good for a while, but when life becomes different (more important) for whatever reason, then itâs a fork in the road time.
Yyyyyyyg yyyuyyyygyyuyyyyg y6
Good luck with your own botanical garden! đ
I love her. She's so humble and curious. She's not afraid to say it when she doesn't know something and then she'll ask Summer, like asking her to teach her more even though it's her expertise. Love her!
that incredibly brave!
It was the same as I thought. She's just natural, not like a plant snob.
I think she asked her to help with an english word, not bonany
I completely agree!! The best kind of people đđđđ
Bkt binunot?
Love these tours of the Botanical Gardens! đ
Have you seen the biosphere one? 0h!!! Everybody wanted to stay the night there!
She is spending her pregnancy time in a perfect environment đ
Rightly pointed đ
Pregnant ? What did I miss
the plant curator is pregnant... not rayneđ
Oef sorry I was reading your comment before the video! Hahaha
Yeah I saw this comment before watching and I thought Summer was pregnant đ lol.
In a time when we're not able to travel to these incredible places, it means so much that you're able to bring them to us in the most calming, intentional, and educational way. You're a gift to this community, Summer. :)
I dont think she should have been travelling herself.
thats what I've said in earlier vids, so interesting and educational too,đ
Wow, I'm a Horticulturalist in Australia and some of these tropical plants remind me of North Queensland. I work in a small regional Botanical Gardens and dream of having green houses full of amazing plants like Gothenburg. Thanks for that tour around and I have put Gothenburg Gardens of my list. Great video, keep up the fantastic work.
This is sooo incredibly beautiful & totally relaxing! I'm too happy for this upcoming Baby!!!
This is not just a treat... Its the whole meal served for a plant love like me.... Thank you so much summerđ
Your guide was so engaging. Even if she had never told us this was her dream job, it would have been very obvious. It made me sad to see the autumn foliage from last year and pondering what this Fall might bring. Thank you Summer, for the depth and breadth of your field trips.
Sander this is a very beautiful film. Kudos to you! Summer you are blessed to have Sander
1 hour in school :*10 years *
1 hour with summer rayne Oakes :* 10 seconds *
Hahah. I'm glad the information flies by!
I'm just a tropical girl who came here hoping to see some exotic Dutch plants but alas. I still stayed and watched though đ lovely collection
Haha that's always so funny how an apple tree or a birch could be exotic to someone who lives in the tropics!
I love love love Gothenburgs botanical garden.
I love that way Asa Kruger spoke. I know the garden loves her!
This was so amazing! I love how she talked about how she teaches and the engagement of the garden. There were so many plants that inspired meâŠI canât pick just one!
I really appreciate Summer's formal education/background in plants. While Ms. Kruger is a fantastic tour guide and extremely knowledgeable, I always appreciate having a bridge between difficult terminology and an easier away to digest information which Summer provides. Great tour and I don't know how anyone could even THINK about disliking the video. Thanks so much.
this is one of my favorite places, countless hours have been spent walking around this BG. when people ask me what they should do when they visit gothenburg this have always been one of my top recommendations. even friends of mine that never owned a single plant in their life have loved the visit so I think it safe to say they do something right at this BG.
Another awesome video. I always enjoy these Botanical Garden trips. The conservation story of the Easter Island tree was really interesting. I do hope they will one day survive on the Island again.
I enjoyed seeing all the plants. I found the Lithops to be the most interesting because I have one.
I like that you get us the 'backroom' access to where the studies and experiments and trials are taking place with plants many of us have never seen before :)
Thanks for sharing this video.
Summer barely stopping herself from touching the Dionysias - precious :D
Omg...i can't believe those plants in one place..just wowđ
What theyâre doing with the Easter Island trees is beautiful. I hope they return to their home someday. â€ïž
Yeah, that story made my heart ache for some reason
The sad part is that the environment of the islands is no longer what they were. Iâll be surprised(and also super happy!) if it established itself again.
Every amazing botanical garden tour Summer Rayne does reinforces in my mind what a very special, unique, valuable and irreplaceable plant resource planet earth nurtures and provides. We need to treat this world, with its finely balanced precious ecosystems with the proactive care & attention, and protection it so very well deserves.
Apologies...planet Earth with a capital 'E' of course!
Iâm living for these videos đđđđđđđ
Awesome, I grew up in Guyana South America, our home was always decorated with houseplants, maiden hair was my moms favorite fern, this video has brought me way back. In Brooklyn New York I do have houseplants. Truly enjoyed this. Thank yâall so much.
Wow...lots of interesting species n stories...din realise the length of video!...one of d most interesting episode!!đđ€©
I don't live anywhere near a botanical garden. These videos are such a treat (and they're helping form my travel bucket list) thank you so much for bringing me to these places I would otherwise never be able to see
Those Dionysia are to die for!!!
I'm impressed by your pronunciation of Göteborg
đ
Lovely garden! I like you said Göteborg!!!
Always enjoy your nursery tours. Thank you
You're welcome!
These Botanical Garden Tours Inspire Me, Thank You.
Wow ! From PH to sweden, It is really worth watching these all varieties of plants and flowers ! Love this video ! I really love plants â€
Thank you so much for this tour! I'm from the northern parts of Sweden and I did a 2 week internship about 10 years ago during my training to become a professional gardener. It was amazing to see then and now that I learned so much more and experienced so many more plants, It would be awesome to go back and to look at everything with new eyes and a different perspective.
Hi I found your channel, wow so nice to see , my wife and I have been involved in plants all our lives, and have been fortunate to have traveled the world with it, we are now in our 60s and have a garden we are working on in Panama, our legacy one day for future generations, thanks for your enthusiasm and love of plants . this looks like a great gardens to visit, another on our list.thanks once again
hi Summer. so glad to see you have a new video. your work is excellent !!
Wow! This botanical garden was absolutely beautiful! I would love to visit a place like this some dayđ Nature always takes my breath away with so many beautiful plants, insects and walks of lifeđ This women impressed the heck out of me and was really interesting to learn from. Her knowledge and passion is a gift. She's the cutest đ Thank you for sharing Summer. I really enjoyed watching this one đ
So pleased you enjoyed! One more episode coming!
@@summerrayneoakes I can't waitđ.. Thank you for all you do and share with us.. it really is such a pleasure following along with you!đ
Hi Summer, I love your videos and I love you! Great combination of beauty and brains with a side of spunk. Without a doubt, you are the #1 plant guru of CZcams! Thank you for educating the world on plant care. There are very few people on CZcams that know what they are actually talking about and it causes a great deal of misinformation. I love nature so much and I would love to see some conservation facts, footage and ideas of what we can do every day to help our planet survive. Also, I think you are the perfect person to deliver truth and knowledge of what is going on with deforestation, climate change, plastic, water conservation, etc. You are doing a great deal of good for our planet. Thank you again! :)
đđđ Fantastic garden. Many thanks for showing us this beautiful place.
Blessings from Kuching, Malaysia.
Wonderful, wonderful episode! Thank you so much Summer!!!
What a beautiful creatures in this world especially in taking care of plants... Amazing... đđđ
Thanks for the video! The botanical garden is so well organized with plenty of plants that I have never seen before.
1 hour video. Thanks Summer. Love the music and video. So relaxing while watching and propagating some of my plants. đ
Asaâs kind voice and accent is so soothing đ I am surprised I didnât fall asleep! I loved the carnivorous plants and the lithops and the cute mounds at the end, Iâd be so tempted to squish them but of course I wouldnât. I cannot believe they grow some of those plants indoors who require lots of sunshine and temperature fluctuations!
I fell asleep
Thank you for this amazing tour. Im adding botanical gardens to my list whenever i get to travel next time!
What a great Botanical Garden! I'd visit Gothenburg just to see the orchids and carnivorous plants having seen this! The rest of Sweden can follow afterwards
Thank's forđđčđđđŠ tour in botanical garden in Sweden. It was nice to jump to Sweden by time staying on sofa, in Israel đ đđđđđđđ
just got back from Gothenburg .... quite a beautiful city in the summer ... gorgeous gardens all over the city
What?! You were in Gothenburg?! I run in the nature reserve behind the gardens several times a week. Itâs one of my favorite places in town. If I would have seen you there I would have freaked out đ
I grew up in Gbg and also used to run there. I studied biology in those buildings and have many wonderful memories. I have to go back there and check it out. I bet all oldies have retired now. Fun to see that those collections have an international audience.
I've said it before and I'll say it again and again. Plant people are the best! The best!
Wow. Just wow.
Summer thank you so much for sharing this with us⥠This was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed all of this video. I could have watched hours longer as it was so informative and beautiful. There were so many fascinating plants & trees. Loved the Docent. She was so informative and passionate. I could see her face light up when she showed you different plants she was so passionate about. I'll never get to go to these gardens so with that being said I give my heart felt thanks. It was so generous of you spending the time traveling and for sharing this spectacular botanical garden with us all.
6:17..."Relax in the green" love that.
I can totally relate to the separate areas of the garden, although I feel you can create the same departments within a garden given any space you have. My garden allows me the freedom to move from room to room and capture something new on a regular basis. People say my downfall with the garden according to them, the containers are not self sustained. In Miami, it rains on a regular basis and watering is not a chore for me. I look forward to the release of stresses from the day while feeding my garden essential waters. The interaction is essential to sensory. It grabs you euphorically on a spiritually level and will not let go! Who have to physically force the release! At the time of creating my garden, I had no idea how the garden who end. I went with the flow, by letting the garden take me wherever it wanted. It's fantastic and suited just for me! Happy growing and thanks for sharing.
THANKS FOR SHOWING TO US VERY UNUSUAL PLANTS, TAKE CARE
Finally an orchid episode! My favourite family of plants :â)
Yyy v VT yt? y/77
I so love these episodes.
This is the most relaxing and inspiring video I have seen during this pandemic. This place is now on my bucket list. This is what I would imagine heaven would look like đđ„°
Make sure you check out her biosphere video she made as well.
Just... WOW. that was a treat!
She was so right when she mentioned that Australian things are always very potent. Almost everything from australia is deadly
With the exception of Koalas. They look so cute and helpless and just makes you wanna take em home
My australian mother in law, too.
I just adore your adventurous videos. Every single 1 of them has at least two of my fav plants and leads me to soo much research of others. Thanks and keep 'em coming
Peace N Love
Oh my god i love these botanical garden tours so much.
This was incredible. And what a lovely guide.
The last house you visited is the most interesting to me. Species I am not familiar with. I love your visits to Botanical Gardens, this is one of my favorite activities. If you ever get to Denver, we have an awesome BG!
Feeling so refteshingggg to see natuređđđđ
This is such a visual treat and virtual tour into a botanical garden Thanks for sharing with us . It brought the feeling of being in there and exploring things under this lockdown :)
Very beautiful ,GORGEOUSđ„°đ„°đ„°
Many of the crocuses in Gothenburg are collected by my friend JÄnis RukĆĄÄns here in Latvia. Realy lovely video!
Omg, as a Swede I didn't know about this garden - I need to visit Gothenburg ASAP!
Thank you for awesome tour!
Wooow. Not gonna lie this video blew my mind
I had Amorphophallus for a good number of years, which had originally been gifted to me. After I moved to a new home where summers tend to be cooler the bulbs eventually got smaller and smaller until they were unable to take the long winters in storage and dried up to nothing. Was fun to see different varieties of them !
I got to see new spectacular species thanks to you! Amazing tour!
Loved this. Asa was wonderful showing some neat plants and sharing her knowledge. Awesome.
Fabulous botanical garden. Very interesting.

Well I never knew that! Vanilla is an orchidâŠ. Fabulous. Thank you both (and the crew) and can I add that I really appreciate that you put the plant names on the screen. Ăsa, your little baby must be about a year old by now, congratulations đ„ł
The cocoa tree seems to produce flowers like our eastern red bud trees. The flowers growing out of the main branches & trunk. Cool! From Morris park in the Ozarks, Peace,Love,Plants!!!âđđ”đ·đŽđșđČđ»đž
yeah, needed this video...1 hour of calming plant vibes.Thank you for your videos!
You're most welcome.
I love it
Brings back fond memories of my journey from an Apprentice Horticulturist to my 4th and final year in Glasgow Botanic Gardens. I was proud of my time there and had a promising career there training other Apprentices as well as interacting with the members of the public, school children as well as University students.
I completed my studies, exams and practical side of Horticulture and held a position in the Front Range which were a broad variety of Greenhouse plants, Palm House, Cactii & Succulents, Consevatory, aquatic plants etc, oh and the Conservatory for which display then would change weekly or every couple of weeks depending on the time of year.
There were also a large number of greenhouses, potting sheds not open to the public where plants were propagated and grown on for displays in flower garden beds, the Front Range, Kibble Palace etc.
I loved my job and the people I worked with back in 1975 when my Apprenticeship was completed. I had a long promising career ahead of me, one or two Horticulturist got job offers in Edinburgh Botanic gardens... life was good.
Not long after I was faced with a difficult decision, my Fiance's father died and her mum wanted to be with her other 2 daughters and son in Canada.
My Fiance didn't want to emigrate without me and her mum didn't want to leave her daughter in Scotland when she was going to be 3000 miles away.
In 1976 I boarded a plane for my first ever flight to a country that I knew little about. I was going to a country where I only knew 2 people, my Fiance and her mother.
Did I do the right thing? Give up a job that meant a lot to me and move to a country that I knew very little about.
A new life awaited me as I hurtled towards Canada onboard a DC8 alone as my FiancĂš had gone on ahead 3 months before me.
Sorry I got carried away.... lol
Awesome trip once again. I totally enjoyed the nursery guide, she was so personable and knowledgeable of plants.you could tell she truly loved what she does. My favorite were the Orchid collection. Just n! Thanks for taking us along! đ
How come every person you meet with is so beautiful inside and out?! đ
I have many close friends in Gbg so of course I went to this amazing place & I totally loved the day I spent there. It's peaceful and beautiful.. Want to go back!!
I love Göteborgs botaniska trĂ€dgĂ„rd! Iâve only been there twice, and I would love to go back again after seeing this.
Iâm from Sweden, but I lived in Stockholm, so I used to mostly go to the Bergianska botanical garden thatâs in Stockholm.
This was therapeutic. â€
I like and need decorating ideas but have so much less room... but still there are some gems among the ideas in these videos. Amanda is entertaining isn't she? Good health and happiness to all.
Hey, i am an Erasmus Student in Göteborg and i literally moved across the Botanical Garden a week after this video launched!!! If i go behind my student housing i see it from the rocks up and it's a place i go with friends or for walks frequently...as it's the closest green we have... how lucky! And you are my favorite plantuber....
Ahhh that verrucosum in the background at 13:07, what a dream plant
Thank you for this. I watched the whole thing and it's 2am here in Malaysia, where mimosa pudica is prevalent as a weed!
What a fantastic botanical garden tour and love your guest. She's a real life example of someone doing the work they love and it shows. The cinematography is so well-done. Thank you all for providing us this inside view into a truly amazing place!
Wow, such an exquisite behind-the-scenes video... The garden itself is magnificent as well, it was probably/definitely one of the places that sparked my plant interest a few years back! Psyched to see there's more to come in the series. Staycation 2.0
Love love love only plants all around the world, Summer, please come to India, you will enjoy the Orchid gardens here , it's world famous, in northeast India , lots of respect from a plant lover in India
endemic borneo garden is here to listen... đđđ
I live in Gothenburg and go to the Botanical garden whenever I can, it is amazing and every time I discover something new: this week was a gigantic Ponderosa pine that knocked my socks off!
The two of you being in the same room is explosive đ§š. Love this Collab. Love you both.
Love Love Love. They both make me want to sell my belongings to go live in a botanical garden. Cannot wait to visit and hope I run into Summer here in Bklyn.
