Dragon's Dogma Lore - The Emerald King

- On the long list of named characters in Dragon's Dogma, few are as mysterious as Arsemus II, the Emerald King. He is also known by His Youthful Majesty, owing to his coronation at the tender age of seven years. We never meet him and we never learn where he rules, save that it is a land far away.

@@gnb_2476 or would be much, much harder to complete. "hunt 2 sea birds" umm.. pretty sure those are extinct now since they won't even spawn in/near Cassardis anymore...
Filling out the last requests of a ghost via notice board quests is chilling, and very on brand for Bitterblack Ilse

Another excellent lore video! This one has that true Vaati DNA in it. Just four short pieces of text in-game about a character that we never meet and who a lot of players probably don't know the existence of... yet you guys were able to make a seven minute lore video on him. Very impressive indeed!
Now we just need the Crown of the Emerald King DLC for Dark Souls 2... the ultimate crossover!

A lot of what I do is not just reading what's there, but reading what isn't. The scraps tell a lot more than what is written.

I would assume the Emerald King is a male, given that "king" is traditionally a male monarch title, but the chamberlain could be female, IDK.
That is definitely a possibility. We aren't given that detail. I made sure that was put in the script too. 👍
Knowing DD's beloved system, it could be any type of person hahahaha

I'm still 99% convinced the king was male though since "king" is a traditionally male monarch title, its female equivalent is "queen". other examples of male and female monarch titles are: "prince", "princess", "duke", "duchess", "lord", "lady", "count", "countess", "sultan", "sultina", "tsar", "tsarina", "emperor", and "emperess", while titles like "pharaoh", and "jarl" are gender neutral.

I hope it didn't disappoint. The little information available told a big story but a lot of it was still guesswork. Sadly, unless something more official comes out about The Emerald King we probably won't even be able to guess at much more than this.

I know you pointed it out but it really does make you think how brave fisherman are in Gransy’s (sp). One small mistake of falling into the water can get you torn apart.

What i want to know is why is the final quest one you can only get if you got to bbi before post game when if you can only get the quests that come before it after the final quest is already unobtainable. Thats weird as fuck as a game design decision.

I believe there's a reason for it. It tells us we're too late. No matter what we do, we can't actually help. However fast we complete these quests time is up and we're just laying ghosts to rest.
That and for some reason they really wanted us to go to The Flameservant's Throne which is impossible post-dragon.
I dunno, honestly. There's a great number of things that it could be and we can only guess at them. But somehow the anachronistic order feels right to me.
This is something that was done on purpose. We were meant to complete them out of order.
There's one possibility that really hits in a tragic way, too: The Grand Chamberlain, out of everyone who ever entered the island, escaped unassisted.
Mortally wounded, they put their dying wish to the board but, realizing they were already too late, they simply left to die in their homeland.
And so the last wish they made was the first we found.
@@ThePawnedPawn thing is if the last request is put up before post dragon and the first three after post dragon, then that implies somebody had to be there to put them up on the board. So unless some unexplained lore thing is fucking with time, then that implies he still has to be around.
@@dorianrobinette9712 It's a good theory, since most undertaking the quest are going to be NG+. But we're also talking about Capcom here.
Dragon's Dogma had an amazing team, but not a flawless one. See, these quests do not have NG+ as a prerequisite...
If one were to head to Bitterblack Island immediately before facing Grigori they would have a decent chance of being able to acquire the first (fourth) quest. They might even have what it takes to accomplish it.
The rest aren't any more difficult to complete, but are much more difficult to acquire since more is involved in reaching them.
By quest-locking them to the post-game they planned for players to have better equipment, skills, and hired pawns.
Still, it's admittedly supposition as to the reason.
But no, the Grand Chamberlain is no longer with us. Even if they were, the Emerald King certainly is not. Their posting new quests wouldn't make any sense or serve any purpose.
It's a tragedy, and one we can largely only guess at.
