    "You have to not be just a technician, know the meaning of light, the symbology and dramaturgy of light and of the different elements in the frame" That was fucking brilliant.

    I'm surprised he isn't bringing up digital editing, since colors, light, shadows, etc. can all be manufactured during the editing process. All of the decisions on lighting and colors that used to be made by the cinematopgrapher on film, can now be created in post production during editing of digital footage.

      No they can't. You can change the color of things somewhat ok, but you can't change the color of the light that bounces off the things you recolor. Light in physical space is far too complex to simulate in a 2D digital editing program.
