I use a piece of cardboard between the pry bar and the wall to prevent scuffs and damage to the paint and drywall.
The prybar she was using is designed specifically for removing baseboards and trim, so it's a little better at not damaging the walls versus the standard prybar. Plus, she is using a REALLY wide board compared to the old trim, not thinking it is gonna make much difference if there's a mark, it will be covered! :)
Mary Beth~ I definitely agree! Great idea!
Great idea!
I pay a little bit more for the pre-primed pine boards. Saves a step of priming, but more importantly they’re better (straighter) cuts of wood. Some of the cheaper unfinished pine boards can have a bend or curve to them, where I’m not talented enough to overcome 😆
Great job Liz! I love the taller base boards! You are inspiring! As always thank you for sharing! Stay safe, healthy and positive! GOD bless you and your family. 🙏❤🇺🇸
Wow you are amazing! This is the thrill of watching your channel - you never know what creative project we get to see next. So much inspiration!
Liz, your projects are amazing! Nice seeing your hubby help. You two need your own HGTV show. You're already a superstar. And his haircut is awesome.
I am so excited about your new channel and can't wait to see what you do next. The new baseboards and door trim made a huge difference. Love it!
I'm getting ready to finish my bathroom with the same style of trim and baseboard! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
July 2020 to July 2021: One year later, a 1x6x8 is no longer $6.91...but is $11.55 at our local Home Depot! Your timing was perfect! Mine, not so much!!
Same it’s even more now 😭
I checked around n gets what it's still this cheap at menards I'm going to get some
Oh this looks amazing! And the answer to my stress! lol. My husband and are finishing up our renovation on our 120 yr old home and in the process of the demo we had to scrap some of the nice thick baseboards and I was stressing over how we were going to remedy this problem without spending a fortune. This really is beautiful! Thank you 😊
Love the thicker baseboards, they look really nice.
My house is 130 years old and we have always had the 6" mop boards and I love them rather than the little 4" or less.
I love this kind of base boards my house is a 140 year old craftsman and that is what I have and I love them.
My hubby has been leary of letting me do this but he agreed after seeing this. Way to go Liz, this was a great score for me. ❤️ your channel.
Sandra Runyan I’m so glad that it was helpful. I found that it was actually easier than I thought it was going to be :-)
Love that you've made a video for people to understand this concept. So many diy'ers these days don't get the simplicity and honestly the durability of this. My wife and i completely refinished our old house. 2450sqft of new flooring and trim. Using 1 by lumber for all of the floor, door and window trim. I installed the same thing in our new house myself to save some serious construction cost. My only complaint is i don't think white is very farmhouse.... the term emits a feeling of hand crafted wood colored creeky floors and 9ft doors. Though this style is very cost effective, slapping paint over the wood grain isn't the same!
I'm so glad you love it, T_ravi_ous. Have fun watching! 💕
You go Liz! You are amazing and inspiring. You've encouraged me to try new things.
One of the best tools we bought for our construction business was a ryobi battery powered caulk gun. The best under $50 tool. It will save time caulk waste and your forearms. Great job. It looks really nice.
OH MY GOODNESS IM SO GLAD I CAME TO THE COMMENTS! I had no idea a caulking gun existed… THANK YOU! Ordering one now before I start that part of the process!!
We have to change them too one day. Love it how it turned out.
Thanks!!
I’m just so glad you have started another channel, Always wondering what good ideas you have coming up next!! The room has that farmhouse look for sure! 😊
Thank you so much for watching!
Looks great ! Alway fun to see what you are going to do next 🙂 always paying attention to lil details makes everything come together ..💕
Love the baseboards and how they turned out!!👍🏼😍
Amazing Farmhouse Baseboards and Door Frame Transformation Girl! 🤩🤩🤩
Amazing job looks beautiful. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend gorgeous Liz.
Wow Liz can't wait to see what else you do on this channel! Love the hubby's haircut as well. LOL
The mohawkmoron?
I think you're supposed to prime, caulk and then paint so that you don't have the caulk showing on the seams as well as the nail holes. Overall, this is a great way to upgrade baseboards. I love it and will be using this in my home. We just bought a house and it just finished being built two months ago. We close next week and I cannot wait to get in there and change these builder grade finishes. Thank you!
Very nice. It’s amazing what a difference a simple change can make in a room.
Thanks
I have been SO intimidated at the idea of having to mitre corners, so it is wonderful to see how well your base moulding came out without doing this. I think it works especially well with modern farmhouse. thanks so much for the inspiration!
I was thinking the EXACT same thing! No mitres and it looks great! I am (a little) less scared.
I give her an A for effort but, these baseboards look no where near professional. Miter cuts are not difficult you can practice a little bit until you get the hang of it. Otherwise, your baseboards will look cheap.
Love love love the baseboard! Looks like a new project for me maybe.
Ive just done this on my 130 yyear old cottage. Much cheaper even than rubbish mdf trim and sooo much nicer. Ive also used planed and cleaned up
recycled hardwood weatherboards for baseboards.
Thats the same board sizes Im replacing mine with. Now I have an idea of how it will actually look. Tfs
Liz that looks sooo good. It really lifted the look of the room. Love it ❤
Thanks so much!
You did awesome. I've always wanted to update my baseboards I'm just afraid bc my livingroom/dining room is stucko wall and I dont want it to break. All in all you did a fantastic job
I like it. Simple and to the point. Good farmhouse look.
love it thanks to you I can now replace my trim.
Wow, I am going for that look. I love it. Now I see how easy it can be, I am waiting to see if the price of wood comes back down.
Thank you for the inspiration.
What an improvement Liz!! They look very nice👍👍🤗tfs!!
I think it has a more modern look. I like it!
Thanks for sharing Liz. I love this baseboards!!!
Cool tool for the baseboards!!! I prefer those baseboards, window and door frames much better. It’s cleaner and looks nicer
Thank you. It was exactly what I was looking for😁😁🥰 So beautiful and unique.
Nice of Chuck Lidell to help you
I really like you!!! You are calm, nice and explain everything so well! ❤️
I also ordered a bunch of your Christmas gifts! Thanks!
Did you also caulk where the baseboards meet each other vertically??
oh wow, looks amazing ...you both made it look so easy to do also...thanks
Thanks for posting this just what I needed I could totally do this too
I have the boards to do the same thing, we just haven't gotten to it yet! Do you have tall ceilings? I wasn't sure if 6" baseboards would look ok with 8' ceilings, it just seems so low compared to the house I had prior to this one! Love your channels, thanks for sharing!
Looks so amazing. I love it
Hi Liz great job looks great 👍 Happy Sunday to you 🌸 stay safe and God Bless you
I better get busy. I need to change my baseboards 😁
Wow they turned out great!!!!!!!
It made such a difference.
Love those baseboards. Great idea. Keep it up. And come to my house next, please.
Wow! Looks great
Looks so good!
Wrong primer, sorry to tell you this. The knots will eventually come through. The correct primer is BIN shellac-based primer, a little more expensive but one coat and knots are gone for good. You can paint with latex 10 times, but you'll never cover them.
Much easier to clean also? I would think.
I noticed that the wood pattern was still visible through her paint job... probably because of this. I wouldn't want that in my home
@Politically-incorrect-brian // who really sits around looking at all the baseboards? I think they did great.
Wow, that was a lot of work, but so worth it. It looks great!
Thanks Linda. I’m so happy with the way they turned out.
Girl you can work those tools! I like this new chnl. I’m learning a lot! Thanks Liz!
LOL! Thank you so much
Looks so good!👍🏻♥️
Job well done Liz!!!
Looks great,I’m going to do this. My husband and I just bought another house. I’m just going to do one window at a time.
Looks great. 👍
Love it!
Looks Awesome!
Nice job, Liz. Looks great!!!
I'm so glad you liked it, Carole Anderson! Stay tuned for more fun videos. 😊
Thanks!!!!!!!!Exactly what I was Looking For!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good idea..thanks..looks great
They look great!
Thanks 😊
I love this !!
Love your channel!!!
Awesome job
I'm sure in going to love your new channel! I don't know if you had your giveaway yet but count me in!
I would Love to see more of that floral patterned wall 😁
Yes I will be posting about that probably a video on my main channel.
Iove the tool you purchased...I'm thinking if you put a thin piece of cardboard , from a cereal box between the wall and tool it may not damage the wall?
Looks great. How are the knott holes holding up? I noticed when I build with the common board the knott holes come through event with primer and paint. We decided to go with mdf for the base boards for that reason.
So far good.
Looks so nice!
Thank You!
I need to do that on The one wall I had floor to ceiling mirror removed...new baseboard and crown molding in master bd rm.
You guys look like pros!
Great job😀
I hope you see this to answer, even the video is older. What is your opinion on using the baseboards with flooring? Would you leave it unfinished where the baseboard meets the floor, or would you add some trim?
well shit... I have been trying to figure out wth I was going to do for my entire house - and now I know! THANK YOU!!!
Great job. 👏 👏 👏
Very pretty
Love the video! What color is on your wall (mauve color)? ❤️
What size wood/wood type did you use for the baseboards and door molding ?
Do you fill in the joints between two boards?
Thank you.
So no miter cuts right. Just straight cuts? What size nails please and what kind of saw for the cuts please? Thanks.
This turned out so nice! Is that your hubby stylin' that mohawk? Love it!
Yes😂 He does it once a year.
Did you nail or screw? If so? What size? Thanks
I'd love to do that around my house. What would you do around hard flooring?
We have hardwood flooring downstairs. We will probably put it in the same baseboards and then add a piece of quarter round to the front.
I’m totally inspired now. I do not like my baseboards in my 1963 trilevel mid-century home. This is a great alternative and I’m guessing much more cost effective? Can you tell me if the word you use was pressure treated or not? I see a lot of varieties when I look at Home Depot’s website. Glad I found your channel!
Stay inspired and have fun watching, jaithevegan h! 😘
I love the big base board
I'm so glad you love it, Gail Rhodes. Have fun watching! 💕
Really very nice
I'm so glad you liked it, Akbar Rajput! Stay tuned for more fun videos. 😊
Nice tool. I was able to remove my baseboards using a crowbar.
Where did you get the wall paper
you should shellac the knots before priming with ZInsser BIN or they might bleed through
It's funny that the baseboards are called farmhouse. My daughter's mother-in-law, an interior designer, has those beautiful boards in a modern Boho home. It's beautiful.
That same 1x6 board is now $13.32 each...crazy.
1x6x8 are 13 bucks today 😣
Would it look funny to replace the baseboards in a room with crown moulding that's the same as the stuff you removed? I love it the farmhouse baseboards!
I don’t think so. We have crown molding in our living room and I think that we plan on leaving it up.
i like this video🙂
