    IGF-1 isn't bad by itself, it's all about dose and time acting on the body, and it can be greatly reduced with methods like intermittent fasting. By that logic, animal products aren't bad either, it just has to be absorbed more slowly over time which can be easily mitigated by eating a salad when you have a steak(fiber slows down nutrient absorption). Blaming animal products for all these problems completely negates the complexity of this food group, which isn't just about protein but contains a variety of other bio-available nutrients(vegans are the stereotype of nutrient deficiency for a reason).
    Personally, i think this points out a problem which isn't talked enough that is: we are always eating. Humans have been selected to be survivalists, and that means that our metabolism has been adapted to whole spectrum of metabolic situations, one of which is hunger/fasting. We have consistent research backing up the fact caloric restriction extends lifespan and that most anti-aging mechanisms work in this metabolic environment, yet we waste time arguing which food group is best. The fact of the matter is that we have thrown our bodies into overdrive once we stopped going after our food and now it's easily reachable on a shelf with minimal effort.

    I have high IGF1 and eat super clean and exercise five days a week. Run marathons. How is it high? My Thyroid is low functioning and progesterone, testosterone is low as well . Was on birth control for over years and think a lot of my current issues is from it.

    No one can accuse Dr Fuhrman of being low energy. Totally agree with dropping animal products for better health.

    The bulk of people never give a thought about the food they put in their bodies. Most of them will die prematurely because of that. I've seen many family members and friend ignore my warnings and pass away very young in age.

    I'm curious about more info on professional football players having the shortest lifespan in North America. I searched for any studies to confirm this but all I could find were articles and a few studies that contradict together. Some that I glanced at actually said they live longer than most other occupations, and longer than the average Joe. Where is a well researched study that explains this?

      If you are concerned about longevity plant chompers youtube channel has 3 episodes on health influencers. The 4 that he hand picked that lived the longest, and in the best health, and with awards and honors, and with faultless exemplary track records in life, and who helped save millions of lives for humanity Dr. Kummerow, Dr. Hinohara, Dr. Denmark and Dr. Zheng Ji, all 4 ate a small to moderate amount of animal foods 2 or 3 times every day along with a balanced diet in moderation with no junk food and all 4 kept super fit. All 4 said the best protein is from animal foods.

    This guy makes out IGF-1 to be a nutrient we ought to avoid like the plague. So what is his solution if someone takes is advice and on the flip side allegedly becomes deficient in IGF-1? Would our body simply produce it ourselves like non-essential amino acids?
    Obviously excessiveness in any nutrient; not just IGF-1 will have adverse health effects; we see that with vitamins & minerals. But the question is (which he doesn’t address) what is the upper limit for IGF-1 in human body before it begins to have the very adverse health effects he talks about?
    Because once a “doctor” starts advocating for doing away with a certain nutrition, you know it is politically motivated. And people who believe it haven’t learned from the margarine and the fat free movement.

    • @bbjumpman
      @bbjumpman Před 15 dny

      Just because this guy has a medical degree does to make him an expert in everything you put in your body. To say 250 pound football players die young is a joke. If you stop working out at any age and put on 250 pounds of fat, you take what you get. Why is it that body builders don't develop all types of cancer and die young?

    Hormonally unfavourable as it raises IGF-1,
    You'd rather be eating something which its ratio of micronutrients to calories is more optimal
    It has a higher saturated fat ratio compared to most plant food.

    Was catching up on the research on this and I guess you need at least 100g a day if you’re completely plant based to maintain muscle mass later in life. I guess some of the protein in plants is bound to fiber and gram per gram it isn’t exactly absorbable at a high rate. This isn’t according to me. Watch the recent podcast with Attia, he’s got a scientist on there who specializes in protein research. I don’t like processed foods but isolate in pea/soy proteins is highly absorbed. I don’t like supplements but it may be worth it in this case.

      these protein requirements were never measured for someone actually eating legumes and nuts for protein AND eats lots of fruits and veg

    He lost me when he compared sugar, honey, and maple syrup to animal proteins, claiming that the latter are harmful because they raise IGF-1 levels, shortening your lifespan. 😂 It's the sugars in our diet, doc, not the animal proteins! If the animals are fed the right food, they're perfectly healthy for you!

    • @tomjones2348
      @tomjones2348 Před 5 měsíci

      I think there must be a balance point for IGF-1, because people who do not eat meats are statistically B12 deficient. The "b-12" available from spirulina, tempeh or nori only contain a pseudo-vitamin B-12 which is detected in the serum test, but can not be metabolized at the cellular level.

    Yes!! We all love Hormesis, so let's eat the green stuff with all the anti-nutrients and chemical warfare, healthy oxalates, phytates, lectins, cyanide forming chemicals, solanins, etc.
    Studies showed that low and high IGF-I levels are related to impaired glucose tolerance and to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
    Proteins have a much smaller impact on IGF-1 formation than high levels of glucose.
    And what contains loads of glucose? Starch and carbs!
    Please do your own research and do not blindly follow this.... propaganda?
    Humanity evolved for 2 or 3 million years on meat, until 10.000 years ago when agriculture started. Our genes need much longer than that to adapt to all the glucose we get these days.
