      ikr i am young and have raced at cheltnam and aintree and lots of others in pony racing it is amazing we hit very close to the speeds that the horses hit (horses 40mph) (ponies top speed 35mph) its an amazing thrill especially when you win.!

    Grew up with horses, been riding my whole life. Love thoroughbreds, and... this footage is amazing, terrifying, and interesting all at once. The ears of Many Clouds are calm and relaxed. As if he’s thinking to himself while running. The horses that fall left and right are a tragedy. None of the glory of racing can justify the breakdowns, accidents, injuries and fatalities of those who don’t make it. Those are irreconcilable contradictions that are impossible to sort out. Many Clouds is a big, bold horse that gave his life to carry his rider all the way. All of them are athletic machines, wondrous creatures. Beautiful. But this race is not fair to them. I love racing, but this race is too much.

    Oddly, the race seems less chaotic from this angle! The Druid's Nephew's fall looks even more innocuous on this---just going too fast and almost hurdled the fence

      It does appear that way, and luckily Balthazar King was the only one 'badly' injured in the race this year, and even then he survived. His injuries weren't immediately due to jumping, he got knocked down by Ballycasey, I think.

    Love these Jockeycams...old Tranquil Sea needs about 5 miles to get going these days but he ran on really well to finish not too far away & Super Duty, case of jockey going on too long, jock should've pulled him up much sooner, he was just getting further & further behind...

    My late brother, a winner of several jockey premierships in flat racing had several bad falls and finished his career with a limp. He once told me that he thought going over the jumps was an insanely dangerous way for a jockey to make a living. After watching the jockey's view of this Grand National , I can see what he meant. I hope those jumps jockeys are paid danger money.

    I remember the BBC put a mic on Graham Thorner in a National in the early seventies in the hope of playing it back on a later rerun. They were doubly disappointed to see him only get to the first open ditch and then, on playing the tape back, could only hear him repeatedly saying F**k F**K F**K from the moment they started the race until he fell at which point the recording went something like "umphhhhhh................................................F**K" Needless to say the Beeb did not repeat the experiment.

    Pushing a horse to It's fastest pace, and then expecting it to jump is pushing them far over their limit. And it gets worse if you think about how over half of these horses are treated. I have never liked racing, and never will. Before you decide to reply to my comment, search up the damage of racing, please. Also look it up on youtube, real footage of racing. Thank you.

    • @danielledewitt1

      Horse racing is animal abuse. Oh look now the jockey is screaming down many clouds’s ears and battering him.

  • @davidkent8606

    As I've said on another sight, I really hate the jockey cam. It's like trying to watch The Blair Witch Project movie.

    • @simonedmonds9237
      @simonedmonds9237 Před 8 lety

      +David Kent I agree as a spectator it isn't great for pure entertainment purposes, but in terms of giving us a view into the world of the jockey while he's riding I think it's amazing. Certainly wouldn't want to watch the race from that perspective (it would be dire!) but as a post-race analytical tool I find it fascinating.

  • @rosebray3459

    the only thing I don't like about racing is when they shout and scream and whip there horses when they are going there max speed

    • @lilyby1203
      @lilyby1203 Před 8 lety +2

      The shouting and screaming is better than whipping

    • @katebrady2002
      @katebrady2002 Před 6 lety +3

      they are only allowed to whip them like 3 times. if they do it more they get a penalty. They often look like they are hitting them but they're just showing them the whip. When they are shouting it is to encourage the horse
