While I do think the Mario Movie is a great way to launch off into a new Mario game, I think the presence of Odyssey Easter eggs in the movie doesn't prove anything. Pretty much all of the past Mario games are referenced, but that doesn't mean we are getting Super Mario 128.
There was first Sonic movie and not a game to follow it. Now in 2022 we have movie and game, but it may be a coincidence since both are set in completely different universes.

The movie and odyssey were probably both being worked on at the same time so that could be why there's a lot of odyssey stuff honestly

As someone who works in animation this is just a fun refrence for game veterans and core players to relate to. And i don’t honestly see how a cap store in the back of a promo poster has anything to do with the film heaving a “heavy focus” on Mario Odyssey itself. The film probably is something that is completley seperate from any other mario projects that came before.
Also if peach uses tiara then it can be 2 player

I really hope we get a Mario Odyssey 2 for next year! Because it makes sense we get 2 Mainline Mario games 1 is a 2D Mario that is for the movie from a marketing standpoint it makes sense. And 2 Mario Odyssey 2 can be the big Holiday game of 2023.

You mentioned the fact that Nintendo haven't yet created a Cave Kingdom for The Mario Odyssey Series. I have an idea for that: They could introduce it as the first large world for Mario Odyssey 2, with a maze of mine shafts (and lots of Monty Mole Characters mining crystals). They could also have a captureable Power Drill. Other ideas I've had include Steampunk, Funfair, Giant and Viking worlds (with other unique captures and bosses).
I just hope that it's going to exist at some point in the not so distant future...

It is a movie, but I think Nintendo is trying to tell us that Odyssey 2 is coming out. And like you said, it would make sense for it to come out at the end of next year after Zelda Tears of the Kingdom comes out. Just like 2017.

What I would like about Odyssey 2 is That they don‘t Add a lot of new kingdoms, but rather Expand on the existing ones.
Behause in Odyssey it was always weird that each place in the kingdom was given a specific name (like Bonneton in the Cap Kingdom) but there was always only one place you could visit!
I‘d like to Explore some kingdoms further to be honest, though of course some new ones would Not be Bad.
Also make them based what’s in the Mushroom Kingdom not the real world. It was sort of odd having a New York City, Japan and food kingdoms!

I feel like this one is pretty simple. A new 2d Mario Bros Game isn‘t going to perform as a launch title for the next system, BOTW2 is coming too soon, it’ll be released on Switch, so I feel like a Mario Odyssey 2 could definitely be intended to drive sales.
That would be good timing if there was a new mainline 3D Mario game that would release next fall alongside the Blu-ray release of the Mario Movie.
* The best way to announce Super Mario Odyssey would be as a surprise release trailer right before the movie starts.

I think Nintendo could build a lot of hype if the post credit scene for the Mario movie showed sneak peek footage for a new game that game coming out. Kinda how the MCU does for their next films. Whether or not that be odyssey 2 or something else they got up their sleeve who knows? Could be another Nintendo movie. But I’m excited to see if there are any post credit scenes in the movie.
Why would they, that would be like the MCU putting a new marketing footage for a kid's toy at the end of their film. Nintendo would never do that and bridge the games to the films. They simply can't risk it
Idea for odyssey 2: bowser is stuck on the moon so he has kept Luigi prisoner in attempt to get out. Mario, cappy, peach, and tiara (now in 3 and 4 player mode) go on an adventure to rescue Luigi, recruiting people to help them as the journey goes on.

mario odyssey would be amazing for a sequel, and we know for a fact that nintendo isnt gonna release a new console to replace the switch since Tears of the Kingdom is releasing. the capture mechanic was so innovative and strange, they could expand on it so well. love that idea.

Nintendo wouldn't just release a game on switch then come out with a brand new console without any teasing not even publicly announcing that a new console is being worked on. you cant release a game for a console then expect everyone to buy your new console before they have time to finish the game.

I honestly just think the cappy store and the badges for the super Mario bros movie are just references, I mean, the movie is already chock full of references already, as a video game movie, obviously this of the nature.
I doubt were gonna get Mario odyssey 2 in 2023, maybe 2024? but if so, what would they do? the first game was good as it is, I see it more as just a single game. and If Nintendo do announce it, then it would be either called something else, or have a whole different plot, premise, ex.
And, if we were to even get it in the first place, it would have been announced at the last Nintendo direct, like how the breath of the wild sequel got announced a year ago, odyssey was announced 8 months before release.

I really hate to burst your bubble, but I don’t think anything in the video is hinting to Odyssey 2.
1: The renders are just for the Mario Movie Poster, if not the movie itself.
2: The crazy cap store/odyssey badges are just references to Odyssey.
3: it’s common knowledge that Mario’s home world isn’t the mushroom Kingdom, but New Donk City. (Or New York in the old canon)
Keep in mind that the Mario Movie was being developed around the same time Odyssey was being worked on which was around 2015 - 2017 so it would make sense that Odyssey references would be in the movie but I still think Odyssey 2 is coming and the movie seemingly has a focus on Bowser going to different kingdoms to get Stars.
The reason that hey would have so many references to Mario Odyssey on the poster is because it did so well and it just came out in 2017 meaning that there are more people who were around for Mario Odyssey than even games on the Wii.

I remember back when I first got it back when it was brand new, & upon first playing it, the moment I got 2 the Cascsde Kingdom & heard that wonderfully majestic score sweeping the background, I swear, I was overcome with emotion. 😊
From the very beginning all the way 2 those wonderful final credits, Odyssey has a genuinely *epic* feel. It's not just "the new Mario game"; it's a *celebration* , both a wonderful experience & a touching reflection on how far Nintendo's videogame legacy has triumphantly come ever since Mario/"jumpman" made his debut in their very first game Donkey Kong back when I was still in grade school. 😊
It still feels genuinely cinematic & powerful 2 this day, & next 2 it the new Mario movie feels almost like a parody in comparison. 😂 Not putting it down, I'm just saying that the new movie just doesn't have that same sweepingly epic feel that Odyssey has.
& I was both genuinely shocked & disappointed that Nintendo seemed 2 abandon it so quickly. 😢

fun fact about about odyssey multiplayer, the modders said that when they started the project they found that there was already code in odyssey related to online multiplayer but that the idea seemed to have been abandoned at some point in development, thats why odyssey multiplayer was way easier to archieve than botw multiplayer, bc they didnt have to start from scratch

Ok, I heard a youtube say this, I think it was Cjya, saying that a post credit scene for the movie will reveal the next game, it's a good place to put it and It would link in why the crazy cap was in the background of the trailer image. It also gives nintendo time to finish and polish the second SMO and there is so much to build upon having 6 years by the time october/november rolls around next year.
Feel like you could have brought up the sonic frontiers survey leak, which if i recall correctly leaked the multiple islands, and a general idea on the game, that also mentioned he took a survery for an odyssey 2.
Odyssey 2 would have been at least announced by now if it was happening. They're probably working on something else entirely.

Personally I think it’s more likely is based on what we saw Bowser‘s fury it looks like they’re testing the waters for a fully open world Mario game. Some thing I’ve been dreaming of for a long time.
I'm mainly worried we are going into another large sandbox 3D Mario drought. We current at this date aren't even getting any somewhat recent rumors about a new 3D Mario and that is really bugging me. I did hear a rumor about a 2D Mario game but where is the 3D one? Also I'm worried that the next 3D Mario game if any might end up being Super Mario 3D World 2 or the like with the restricted camera...
The thing about odessey 2 is that they could very easily face the same problem breath of the wild, as you have already explored the world in the first game, playing the sequel will feel like playing the first game again but with a few new mechanics, so this leaves the problem of either Nintendo keeping in most kingdoms and adding a few new ones or completely making every kingdom new.
OR alternatively, they could just throw a curveball and make odessey 2 an open world Mario game which sounds insane but could explain as why development has taken so long as they would need to plan out a massive world. but I don't think it would be likely

I hope if we ever get Odyssey 2 that bowser gets the capture ability like Mario had so it would put them on an even playing field. Plus he was originally planned to have the capture ability when an evil bonniter teamed up with him.
Its possible for even late next year even if Nintendo never announced it in the last direct. Though I did notice the upcoming releases only went from September to possibly mid 2023. Also Metroid Prime 4 was skipped announcement wise too so late 2023 is our best guess right now.
we won't, nintendo itself said they are working on a super mario title completely new with the intent of reaching more people, they explicitly said they are not making any mario odyssey or other mario 3d sequel.

Most of the promotional stuff heavily focused on the Metro Kingdom so it made it seem like a "mario in the real world" kind of game which just didn't appeal to me to for some reason. But once I actually watched some gameplay it seemed fun and now I'm glad I bought it 😁

This game could be the best 3d Mario game, have a big open world to explore, new enemies, not have Mario as the sole protagonist, not have a stupid Peach kidnapping story etc but will not be called Mario Odyssey 2, it will have its own identity.

nintendo placed a heavy focus on odyssey because it's the freshest in the mario main line games that people love. They'd do the same if this were galaxy, sunshine or 64 as the latest.
I don't think this means anything. I mean we want a sequel, but its a real stretch to assume a couple easter eggs mean a sequel. Now that the movie has come out, there was no "heavy focus", just literally those two easter eggs. There was not one mention of cappy throughout the movie.

As someone who has Odyssey pegged as her favorite game, I've given up hope despite this info solely because I don't want to be disappointed in the next 3D Mario game
On the bright side if it does happen I'll be that much more excited for it and I will fucking die of joy if Luigi (my favorite character of all time) is playable
I never thought Odyssey 2 was inevitable and I still don't think it's gonna happen. Mario galaxy 2 has entirely different levels and areas. But from what we know so far,
"Odyssey 2" is just Mario Odyssey but with extra kingdoms, plus isle delfino was only there as a small reference to sunshine. Not because it's in a sequel. Also the fact that the crazy cap and the kindgom badges are only in the mario movie as a reference. Because we already know illumination and Nintendo make refrences without making future films/games where those locations appear. The best comparison I can really give is Labrynth Zone appearing in Sonic 2. It doesn't mean labrynth zone will be in the next sonic game. It's because it's an ancient temple location that's underwater and fits with lore and is a cool reference and sonic eating a chilli dog in the movie doesn't mean there'll be a chilli dog themed sonic game or they're gonna appear in future games.
Why do I always feel like Zelda has had more game releases since the N64 generation? Mario games rarely get major rereleases/HD remasters and don't always have more than one mainline entry per console after all

imagine this... in super Mario odessey 2, you play with both Mario AND luigi. when in single player, you play as Mario and luigi stays in the odyssey, and in multiplayer you play as Mario and luigi. luigi also has a hat like cappy - maybe its that cap that said cappy owed him something in the game? Idk. Or Mario is the only one with cappy and luigi has some other cool ability, like having the ability to float with his balloons. Since you won't be able to play balloon world because luigi is on the adventure with you, maybe one of the toads handles it, or daisy. In Odyssey 1 you pretty much already traveled the world, but you technically only went in a straight line so im sure there plenty more room for Mario to explore if they make an odyssey 2. (I got tooooo creative on this one)

My synopsis for Super Mario Odyssey 2 is that the black goo we see in Boswer's Fury infects both Luigi and Waluigi (yes I'm adding both Wario and Waluigi, since its been a while since we seen the two in the Mario timeline besides RPG games). Wario then persuades Mario to help his brother whilst helping his. Skeptical about it, Mario decides to help him and bring Wario to the Cap Kingdom to have his own Cappy variant. This game can explain the history about the strange goo and give Wario special abilities with his new Cappy friend. For worlds though, both the main characters can travel to different dimensions as I believe the world in Bowser's Fury was a different dimension. For captures, I would like to see Koopas, maybe Plessie, or a dragon(???). Still this is my synopsis about Super Mario Odyseey 2.

I think odyssey 2 will release next year, with rumours of a switch pro I feel like Mario odyssey 2 could be a showcase game for the system, like what they did with Metroid dread and switch oled
