I do want to point out that on the non-video version of the song, like on spotify, that "give me five whole minutes" happens RIGHT at the 12-13 second mark, leaving 5 more minutes in the song.
and if you run it back further, and listen to The Night Does Not Belong to God right after, it's 5:04
@@gregpervis1481 Goodness gracious. I freaking love this band.
@@gregpervis1481 To add onto this even further, in the previous song Take Me Back to Eden, Vessel says "I will travel far beyond the path of reason" at 2:15, and almost exactly five minutes later at 7:16, he says "I *have* travelled far beyond the path of reason", which is one of the last lines of the song
"Do I need to listen to this whole thing from the beginning?" Yes, absolutely.
If you go back and listen to the first full album's first track, a lot of the references / callbacks in this song will make sense. The track also has callbacks to other songs along the way. It's a culmination of three albums. If you decide to make the complete journey, you'll be doing yourself a huge service.
I really wish I could return to the first time I heard Euclid's callback to the Night Does Not Belong to God. Never had a song hit me like that. This song is the perfect end to their 3 album story, and as darkly beautiful as it was at times, to have it end with Vessel seeing light ahead and a way forward was sublime. I've been in my lifetime battle for 11 years now, and this song always reminds me that there is still light out there.
This. 100% this.
I JUST sent my sister a text telling her how the callback always gets me and I cry every time because I’ll never get to experience it for the first time ever again. but I always cry like it’s the first time I’m hearing it
Jaw-dropping.
Very very true. I am just now getting into Sleep Token, but I’ve literally been jamming them non-stop. I also realized after the DFW show last Sat that those two songs initiated the beginning and end.
The drummer of this band, in the only interview any member of the band has ever given, has said his largest influence is gospel drumming, so you're pretty on point there.
Vessel did an interview in 2017
@@ElectricTurkey1 True. II did the only video interview.
Yeah! Everything is one connected story! I highly reccomend going on a deep dive of their discography Mr. Boyd! Would love to see it!!!
There is a trilogy of albums:
Sundowning
This Place Will Become Your Tomb
Take Me Back To Eden
All three of these albums, front to back, tell a story about a forbidden love. Songs that describe falling in love with this entity, what it's like when that love isn't reciprocated, arguing and gaslighting, depression, trying to make it work, separation, self-reflection, breaking free, and moving forward
I've been looking for a way to describe this trilogy without giving too much info about Vessel and his ex in order to protect people from getting more than they want. You've provided a perfect explanation that respects their anonymity. This trilogy is just the stages of grief realized in the form of music.
Yes, good explanation! I always described it as a trilogy like a series of books, each song is a chapter in the albums. Their music tells the story of Vessel and Sleep and their toxic relationship. Would love for a deep dive so it all culminates and makes sense by the time you get to this song.
I get choked up every time I hear this song... its this ethereal yet melancholy but hopeful feeling I don't know how to describe. It's such perfection that I just cant handle the emotion except crying lmaooo
Vessel is a modern day poet/author........I'm sure he's a reincarnation of a romantic poet from centuries ago! This band should be HUGE - I'm sick of hearing manufactured music......we need bands back with mind bending lyrics and talented musicians! x
I think for every person who was traumatized the "hope to god you don't know this feeling" hits so freaking hard
Hearing this album for the first time will forever be a core memory of mine. It was my first exposure to Sleep Token and the only way I can describe the experience is it was like discovering a new color.
This song is catharsis. Floors me every time. It completes the trilogy and the callback at the end just re-doubles my obsession every listen. Perfection,
Easily one of the best songs Vessel's ever written in my opinion. Musically, The Summoning is maybe the most complex, but in terms of world building, lyricism, musicality all in one, this was a wonderfully powerful conclusion to a trilogy. People tend to suck at writing in endings, but Vessel delivers.
This song made me cry big ugly tears for a solid month 😂 Something about "the night belongs to you" paired with the melody feels like such an emotional suckerpunch. Just brilliance.
When you said it sounds like Gospel, The Drummer, "II" did a drum session for Drumeo. The whole band has gospel influence; however, the drummer specifically loves to drum in a gospel style. Which I found very cool. It really diversifies their music.
YES! YES, YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO THEM ALL! THEY ARE ALL CONNECTED!
Yes! These 3 albums are a trilogy telling a chaotic, exciting, but toxic love story from beginning to end. Euclid is the last song on the 3rd album, last of the trilogy, and almost every line has a callback to one of the songs. This song, to me, signifies redemption. He's finally able to put this behind him and move on. He's become someone new. This is a big reason I love Sleep Token so much. The genre switching is mesmerizing, lyrics to themselves are deep and emotional, but the fact that it all links together to create this rollercoaster that could be a hit tragedy-drama TV series is what hooks me. I love storytelling in music. It's an easy way suck me in and make me an instant fan. That's what Sleep Token did, and I'm thankful I discovered them during a dark time in my own life. Vessel has stated that he believes he cant' save anyone, that he doesn't have the capacity, but I'm stating, in exposed honesty and vulnerability, that this band saved me. Take the journey of these 3 albums, beginning to end, and it'll have you in tears.
Great reaction, BTW. I always look forward to your ST reactions. You break them down well. Thank you.
Very well said! Yes the album trilogy songs are all magically connected (but the two EPs are connected as well).
Just the track names of some of their songs...When The Bough Breaks, The Night Does Not Belong To God...hint how this song references so many older songs, but also ends them.
You are correct. It's a 3 album trilogy. I get major "Queen" Vibes from this band. Not from the sound or tone, but from the writing. Each song is a journey, like you said, and each album is a concept album that feeds into the next. They should be listened to in their entirety at least once. On spotify, the actual track, not the youtube visualizer, he does say "give me 5 whole minutes" with exactly 5 minutes left in the song.
Sleep Token is so overlooked and doesn't get the acknowledgment they deserve. Absolutely amazing
What are you talking about....they're literally one of the biggest acts in the industry at the moment 😅
@TheBalognaSandwhich I'm not saying they have 5 listeners, they are big, but I think they should be bigger than they are right now. Hell I just listened to them for the first time a couple months ago lol maybe I'm just out of the loop but I have a hard time finding other people that have heard of them, and then I force them to listen🤣
When I finally got to this song. Every part of it, every lyric. omg the callback, "the night belongs to you". This whole journey and this song shattered me in ways I can't describe. Worship..
I would absolutely LOVE IT if you went through everything from beginning to end and then get your second reaction to Euclid. It hits hard. It's a whole ride. I love them so much! ❤
Idk if this will make sense…but the first time I heard this song, I swear I felt every single emotion I’ve ever felt in my entire life. It’s an experience that I don’t know if I’ll ever feel again from a song.
Yeah! This album along with the past 2 are a trilogy~ So there's callbacks to previous tracks on the album along with previous albums. The way this album ties it up is just breathtaking! It's very much worth doing a deep dive and checking out all 3 albums. Incredible songwriting and lyricism, man.
Absolutely LOVE the way you pay such close attention to the lyrics. I'm not sure how many Sleep Token songs you have reacted to already. But I think it's very impressive that you figured out there's a story that links all the songs together. Most people have to be told about the Sleep Token lore. Or they look up Sleep Token on line and read about it. What's really gonna blow your mind is supposedly Take Me Back To Eden is the third album in a trilogy. All three albums tell the story. Starting with Sundowning. Then the second album is This Place Will Become Your Tomb. Ending with Take Me Back To Eden. And the whole experience is captivating and other worldly. Hope you decide to react to all three albums. If not react to all three, I hope you at least decide you're interested enough to listen to them on your down time. I honestly think you would enjoy it. Thanks for an excellent reaction video. 💯🔥👏🤌
Also, just wanted to tell you that you have a great voice for story telling or radio and the like. Very soothing, intelligent and friendly. You'd probably do very well with a radio show telling great history making stories. You know, like Paul Harvey used to do way back when. I know, I know.... I'm old 🤣 But it was very good and they still play his stuff on the radio to this day. A great voice telling great stories. If you've never heard of him, which you probably haven't, look up Paul Harvey and "The Rest of the Story." That's what it was called. 😁✌️
Simply FANTASTIC song 🎵 👌 👍
That back half with the guitar, piano and vessels layered vocals is an almost spiritual experience.
They are geniuses. Plain and simple. 🖤🖤 worship
Yes. Begin with Sundowning, the This Place Will Become Your Tob...the Take Me Back to Eden. It is a trilogy that takes you on a journey of pain, loss, coping mechanisms...ajd ultimately self discovery. You will get it, maybe shed a few tears, and enjoy it. Cheers☮🖤🎶🎵
Youre right! All three albums are a trilogy
Please go to the very first song which is on the One EP which is called thread the needle. It's a 2 EP and 3 album series vessel did. This is the last song in the story. This music changed me. Listen to everything in order and I promise you won't regret it. Then when you are done listen to this song again. It will floor you. I dare say this music and whole story is flawless and otherworldly. I'm assuming she was his first love but the girl from his previous musical group Blacklit Canopy tore his heart out. All the songs are about the relationship and what he went through. She is the goddess Sleep and he morphed into Vessel. It's beautiful and heartbreaking.
I love your breakdown of all music. You pay attention and analyze. Your very intelligent and your not just going off the song sounding good. You’re actually taking in the meaning of each and making your interpretation on your own. It’s AWESOME.
I’m just gonna leave this comment here with a suggestion!
NAZARETH needs to be soon!
You picked up on one of ii’s important influences in his drumming. Gospel, jazz, etc he adds elements from those throughout and makes it super dynamic. And technically it’s like a trilogy, kind of, with all 3 albums. He even drops a bit of a hint as to who he (vessel) is. Ancient canopies is an insanely creative way to say the stars and sky. How he chooses to describe simple things in truly unique ways is really interesting to listen too; and what made me really be interested and invested in their other music. I loved the reaction 😊
All of Sleep Token is absolutely connected. All one narrative of life, love and pain. After hearing and KNOWING all of their other music makes this song a total punch to the feels. It still bring me to tears. The closeout to 3 full albums and 2 EPs. Absolute masterpiece.
dude hell of a reaction channel! impresses with sleep token and you man ! thanks
This song is the final culmination of a three album long story. Every line is a reference to a song that came before. In this song, Vessel has finally broken his bond with Sleep. He's reflecting on his past and the person he has become. Relative to the song yet relatable to so so many people. This song is pure genius
This was the first song I heard from sleep token last year and I immediately loved it and have been hooked ever since.
Yes, beginning to the end. This song references lyrics from other songs and it’s beautifully done
Yes, you have to start right from their first song and go through their entire work to fully understand this band.
You 100% need to listen to the whole album. It is totally worth it! And if you watch the timer on this song Vessel stops singing right at the 5 minute mark calling back to his opening statement of "give me 5 more minutes." Dudes brilliant.
yes - its a 3 album trilogy, the story of him dedicating himself to be the vessel of, and falling in and out of love, with a deity "sleep" and this song is the final epiphany
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but when ii was recently on drumeo I believe he said Gospel music was one of his influences
Now, since you've finally heard Euclid, time to hear The Night Does Not Belong to God, which is the first song off their first album, Sundowning.
you are correct. This song mentions 3 other songs!! one is from their 1st Ep.
This one always makes me cry, dawg. Great vid! You're very intelligent and it's fun to watch what you get from it.
5:37 yes you need to listen to this album start to finish. From what I know it’s about two lovers who aren’t able to make their love happen and it’s a tragedy but a beautiful and realistic one at that. I love this band for their creativity!
Hey first time on your reviews and i enjoyed it! I think you were intriqued by the Ancient canopys part. So it means they were laying under the stars an ancient canopy . Often mentioned as a canopy with holes poked in it to let light through. You also mentioned gospel vibes and this is on point the drummer II was on Drumeo and talked in depth about the gospel influenced. Each song seems to be an epic masterpiece reaching into our souls a d giving a religous type expierence . Check out the Drumeo with II its excellent .
I just want to post that I sometimes go on CZcams journeys and your videos come across occasionally. I think you are amazing at reaction videos and you come across as a very kind person. I especially loved your Hi Ren reaction. But this one is great as well and you should devour as much Sleep Token (and if you go down that rabbit hole his previous band) as you can.
Chills. Every. Time.
In order need to listen to Thread the needle, Fields of elation, When the bough breaks, Calcutta, Nazareth, Jericho, Sundowning (album), This place will become your tomb (album), Take me back to Eden (album)
OMG dude yes you've gotta look into the Lore lol. Apparently Vessel basically worships a diety called sleep. Look in the comments on the videos too....lots of the comments from fans say WORSHIP. lol I'm in love with his band and listening to it constantly several hours a day sometimes. But yeah I don't 100% understand everything about it but yeah religious theme...in not into the fanbase real deep yet but some people call them a cult lol. BUT YES, apparently there is a whole story and each albums is like a progression of the timeline. The shit goes deep but I literally just watched this video by this one guy that seems to be a diehard and big into sleep token and the story, but I'm gonna share the link. This video kinda really helped me kinda understand what was actually going on narratively in all of these songs. I was already captivated by all of their songs and I've herd them all several times and can't stop listening lol but it's nice having a little clarity on the subject matter, and knowing more kinda makes the songs feel even more beautiful and brilliant. Check out this video...a bit long but very worth it if this band interets you.

1000000% an interconnected story. I’d follow the ride from beginning to end with you ❤🙏🤙🏻
Yes you absolutely have to listen from beginning to end all the albums and EPs
Yes, this is one story started with thier EP One, EP Two, two singles, The Sundowning Album, The Place Will Become Your Tomb Album, Take Me Back to Eden Album
Worship
This song is so wistful, such a beautiful ending to the trilogy. Worship!
euclid is my favorite song
5:29 yes you need to listen from their first album through their last album it’s all connected
Finally, my man deserved something beautiful from Sleep Token all those things that tormented Vessel at last brought him a moment of introspection and one of the best ways to close a cycle, this song is beautiful in itself if you ask me, thanks to the one who suggest the song
This tune is sooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooooooooood! perfection
Agree with the tool comp, so on point with that. Thank you for being you.
This is one of most beautiful songs I've ever heard. A true masterpiece. You need to hear it all.
This song is like a bittersweet surrender to win his freedom back. Relieved of the war within him. This is a summary of the first the Story told in the trilogy of albums.
Yes all 3 albums are Vessels love story with Sleep - Euclid references many of the other songs & actually plays part of the very first song of their first album 😢
Yes, you need to listen to all 3 Albums. You hit the nail on the head. It’s a beautiful story
Thank you!! This is also my favorite Sleep Token song. Did you change your mind about Vessel's attitude? I never thought of it as a suicidal song but as a goodbye song. The 'just give me five more minutes' and the 'ghost in the hallway grinning' how his memories are on anempty ceiling all brought up the feelings I've had from moving out of a home I've grown to love. The call backs reinforce those feelings of saying goodbye and then he even says he's leaving a part of him behind. When the last 'give me the night' lines repeat he's not saying to give him her (as in she owns the night) but that he's taking it back from her.
Yes, there is a narrative. I will leave it up to others to talk about the Goddess, I deal with people and relationships. All his songs are about a relationship that meant the world to him although (as his lyrics show over and again) she did not.
I don't think I'm spoiling the story to say that he even entertained insanity for her. And the songs have categories. Falling in love, struggling with the love, fighting, calling for a truce, calling her out and establishing his boundaries.
He uses classic references from literature and philosophy, and he argues his points in many ways trying to find the key to her understanding. And I agree about his lyricism that there are double and triple entendres; every song can be interpreted in different ways. While that's fine for people using individual interpretations for a personal experience to make a coherent story requires an assessment that can apply to any human. After all, we are bound by our consistencies rather than our idiosyncrasies, aren't we?
‘Ancient canopies eyyyy’ 😉
Yes, you need to listen to all 3 full length albums front to back. They comprise a 3 part story.
The Gospel Sounds! You may have been told all of this already.
There is indeed a reason for that. Sleep Token is a religious band. Tied to or Dedicated to a goddess known to us as Sleep.
The lead singer Vessel has a connection and relationship tied to the diety.
But he's also been in accidents, hurt himself, had bad partners, etc.
So themes of love, bad love, blood, suicide, loss, death, harm to others, car crashes, and religious significance are very common throughout all of the music.
The trilogy that this song caps off starts with "the night does not belong to god" off of sundowning.
But full journey starts at "thread the needle" and ends here.
This is in fact a band where tye lyrics are so important you might as well read them like a f
Every single song across their 3 main albums is interconnected, one overarching story. There are lyrics in Euclid that call back to the very first song on the first album.
This song is actually a conclusion to all three of their albums. There are callbacks to songs from their first and second album, in addition to Take Me Back To Eden.
I love your videos because it opens my mind to a lot of the details I may have looked over while previously enjoying their music. I hope you continue to put out Sleep Token reactions they are my current musical obsession and have been for the last year and a half.
Sleep Token is the most intelligent music your channel sees. Worship every god damned day ❤
If you haven't reacted to Granite you should. It stays a little more in a pocket like this one. Can definitely vibe to it. Also, to reiterate everyone here. Analyzing one song is a lost cause. All three albums are an experience and story This song is the bookend of the trilogy. It would've hit harder if you went through many more. Especially the other bookend, The Night Belongs to You.
You should watch the drummer playing thier songs live on Drummeo, he explains a lot of the band's influences. As it turns out, a lot of his influences are from American worship drummers, Metal drummers, Jaz drummers, RnB drummers and even UK drum and bass beats... makes sence when you think about the band's overall style :) Anyway great channel man, I'm an avid watcher👍
Your reaction to "the night belongs to you" was so satisfying to watch. That line made me cry for like a month 😂
And to think it’s a producer and 2 guys that made this.
Yes. They all lead to this moment. This song.
Listen to their very first song from their first album, and then listen to this song (the last from their latest album) It is SO good. Brought me to tears.
I cry every single time I hear this song.
I watched a nearly two hour video essay about the three album trilogy and how they're connected through one story. The guy explains each song and how the lyrics tell said story. I forgot the name of the video and channel, but when you're done listening to all three albums, I highly recommend watching it to understand the whole story of Vessel and Sleep. Great video as always, and I'm excited to see you react to even more Sleep Token!
3 albums and 2 Eps.. ALL connected. Take the journey. Worship. welcome in.
Yes, listen from the beginning to the end. It makes listening to Euclid 10000% more emotionally powerful. Not kidding in the least. When I first listened to TMBTE and Euclid arrived, I was driving to work. I had to pull over and sob. Serious. It was the kind of sobbing that involves a million different emotions, and by God, cleansed me from within. I kid you not when I say ST is in my DNA now. No music act has ever gotten to me like this before. And when I say the emotions overcome me, I am dead serious. I have been trained my entire adult life to avoid emotional needs. ST coerces those emotions free, coddles me, and offers deep hope. It is a thrill to be alive when ST is here for all of us. STs impact is a sincere impact. And the depth of my respect for ST is unparalleled. Here is a link to someone who has one interpretation of the story. It is brilliant! czcams.com/video/mDWpw0NKH1g/video.html
You do need to listen to alot before some of these lyrics can really hit you, I’ve been listening to Sleeptoken since 2013 and I am so glad to hear references to the bough… probably my favorite song in this album
Vessel II(the drummer) did only one interview ever and it's with the channel Drumeo. In it, he admits a lot of his drumming takes from gospel drumming. So you picking up on it is remarkable and says a lot about your musical ear.
It’s just II. Vessel is only the vocalist. 👍👌
I’ve tried drumming along to Sleep Token, but II has influences and muscle memory for how he writes and plays and it’s SO hard for me to keep up lol. He’s amazing. I just have to practice more to get back into it and relearn more limb independence.
NEED TO DO “WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS”
Callbacks galore in this song. Not just from this album but from their previous 2 as well. When the rain gathers (Rain), the last chorus (The night does not belong to God). It is the perfect Finale song. the end of a 3-album journey. It does start with "Just run it back give me five whole minutes". This is a recap of everything and saying that doesn't give it enough justice. The power in this song hits you in the gut and is one of their songs that I can play on repeat.
They're such an interesting band to me.
Everyone feels that sense of Euphoria in the last part of the song.
All their discography tells a single story. Like episodes of a TV series, you need to listen to them in order.
To me this song is a breaking the 4th wall, a thank you to the fans.
100% you should do a fulltime dicography, and yes songs are connected.
Really think “Dark Signs” by Sleep Token would be totally something you would personally enjoy
Also you need to know the “Lore” of the band… Vessel is the cleric of an Eldritch God and he channels his Goddess
As usual your spot, all 3 albums are one story with the last song on each one being an epilogue. Please keep reacting to each song separately though your lyrical insights are really appreciated
Yes you do ACTUALLY NEED to listen from ep one and forward it’s a complete story
This song is the conclusion of the story
You are the only reactor that I will watch the same video multiple times.
all of their songs from album one to album three are connected as well as self referential
The first EP's and singles throught to these three albums are a theatrical journey from beginning to end. Sleep seduces Vessel through his dreams to a promise of a love that he wants but which he will never achiieve. He conveys all this emotions through these songs ending with Euclid, a call back and redemption for Vessell to becoming someone new in the realisation that the night only belongs to Sleep. The end of Eulchid haunts back to the first track of the first album Sundowning - The Night Does Not Belong To God. Everybody can interpret it differently. I do believe in future times thses trilogy of Albums will be looked on as a creative masterpiece.
YES!! It's a giant story! A lot of the music feels like gospel, the lore is the lead singer was contacted through a dream by an ancient deity, and if they spread its knowledge it would give Vessel what he wanted. So the story starts in the EPs ( and before) but it's also very Jungian, with dream interpretation, masks, alchemy, and transcendence and transformation. It's absolutely beautiful. Have you listened to " the night does not belong to God"?
Its beautifully written. Like its easily the best concept album/trilogy I've experienced in a LONG time
You mentioned the gospel feel, ii (the drummer) has noted his biggest influence is gospel.
Gospel drumming style is a huge influence on II's playing.
The Canopy reference (along with the Blacklit reference in Ascensionism) are massively important in the whole context of ST. Let's just leave it there. If you know, you know. But Vessel is definitely leaving clues. It all leads to allusions to the relationship that has been a thread throughout ST's oeuvre as far back as Nazareth and when the BOUGH breaks). A complex and moving narrative of love found, lost and maybe acceptance of disintegration.
The last part of this song is a callback to the first song on their first album, The Night Does Not Belong to God🖤 it goes full circle 💫
I 🖤 them sm
This one is deeply intertwined w The Night Does Not Belong to God.
References to Vessels old band..BACKLIT CANOPY !!
Yessssss
