I got it out of curiosity having played all the Gears and XComs, and I’m blown away by how different it plays from the latter. More actions, executions giving even more AP, shooting doesn’t end your turn, over watch stacking/distance, catching units in crossfire, the emphasis on getting close... I can’t believe it managed to catch the Gears feel and simultaneously not copy XCOM. It’s way better than I expected, I’d even say it’s straight up great.
Even if it was an XCOM clone, I’d have bought the shit out of it because XCOM is great. The thing this game has over XCOM though are much better graphics.

Learned a few new things with this video. I didn't even think about recruiting then taking the mods off them then deleting them. I guess I'm thinking about XCOM rules where you have to pay something for the recruits. I just figured out how to bounce grenades 2 days ago. Wish I found this video earlier. Great video!
Nice mix of tips! Two things I'd add is that grenades kill very reliably, but also instantly instead of putting units in the stagger state, so consider whether you need finishers for a complex turn before using grenades. Also, deprioritize finishers on the rescue missions where you only have 2 characters. Since it costs usually 2 actions to perform a finisher, finishers are only useful if you have at least 3 units. Otherwise it's an action point deficit that can leave your finishing unit exposed.
Great guide - been playing the game on insane difficulty and yet there were a couple of really nice tips. Especially using enemy overwatch to shoot their own units and bouncing the grenades.
I already finished the game on normal and just started a new game on experienced and I wasn't expecting to learn much from a 10 minute tips video but I watched it just in case. I was wrong--I picked up about 5 good tips.
The Soundtrack is pretty decent so far - fantastic nod to Silvestri's Predator theme in the short pre-battle scene before Chap 1 Miss 2 ! Just got playing this on the OneX (I know, PC people, I know - I once spent $5k on a custom system....I do miss PC gaming and promise to do better !)and I like the exploration of the Tactics concept beyond what X-Com offered, that's a big reason why this game is a good one: Good example Gears (so far) and a good example of a Tactics title.
I downloaded this to play in my series X and I haven’t played yet but I’ve been watching play through videos and some other tips and everything. This actually is the first video I have seen that discusses the grenades and being able to bounce them off the environment though. Nobody I’ve watched discussed that, but it seems obvious now that I’ve watched this video. The other one I’ve never seen until this video was how to get the enemy to trigger your overwatch like you did using the Vanguard I think! That is big in this game, I’m surprised I haven’t even seen it done in a lay through videos even! So thanks for that. Appreciate all your effort putting this together dude. Not that you’ll see this post as long as it’s been available. Still should be said though. Thanks again. Can’t wait to get play this game!
Definitely agree with your tips! Been hyped for this since the day it was announced and it does not disappoint! I love this genre but tactics games rarely ever look this good. The character customization feature really shows this off. My only compliant is that aside from rotation and 2 levels of zoom, camera is locked. It’d be nice to be able to zoom to a standard Gears third person view to line up shots. I hope this sells well enough to get a bigger and better sequel.
Grenade Tip - If you are close to an Emergence Hole that hasn't opened, you can plant a grenade on it & retreat. On the enemy turn, it will be immediately destroyed without spawning in Locust.
Omg this game is fun af! I never thought a style like this would be so fun! And these tips are amazing! I'm a novice on these styled games but played and beat every gears on insane...im thinking of the insane difficulty for this.... Im scared af. I heard you can be one shot to downed in a hit and basically have to perfect no damage/luck runs. 🤔😅I don't wanna.
hey guys, if you notice something like stim grenades are a waste of game design then do yourself a favor and open up the game files. find the item you wish to change and then edit the file by turning it into a txt file or opening it thru a software which reconizes the extension (for gears its microsoft excel worksheet to open the files)... i changed my stim grenades from 100 to 1000 hp across the board, and now they are reasonable to actaully use over frag grenades on my supports.. i found you can modify the guns of the enimies and yourself as well like the pistol can be changed to fire 100000 rounds per burts lol
Grenades also knock people back so on a higher difficulty when you throw a grenade it doesn't always one shot but it can trigger everybody's overwatches
I wonder is there an indication which cover you cannot jump over (maybe all which are on elevation?), and which corners you cannot set overwatch from (only sideways)?
no indication for it per se but you can only jump over half cover and cover that has less then 1 1/2 unit of height on the other side (if you treat half cover as "half a unit of heigh" you should get what I mean.) you seem to be able to only drop 1 1/2 unit down at least from all the palces I was able to actually jump down from. seems like the heavy gear they carry is actually heavy at least SOMETIMES
Hello. I have a question about the xp winning system. What can I do to earn more xp? Where can I get information about how many xp I earned for each mob I killed?
Intermediate or experienced are both fine ways to start. Both felt pretty well balanced and difficult. Bosses on experienced might feel a little more daunting and need to be restarted numerous times tho.
the one thing I highly disagree with is the whole triggering your own overwatch tips as why go in to overwatch when you could have just shot them instead. for example if you were going to use the intimidate anyways, why not just trigger that first then they're staggered out of cover and not overwatching anymore. and then you shoot them straight up. the only time I think it would be better to do it the way you suggested is if the person overwatching has talents and passives that enhance their overwatch damage. then it would make sense to set up the overwatch first then stagger them out of cover. the main reason I think this is a bad practice is because if say you set up your overwatches but you calculated your range poorly or your disrupting shot missed, then you're not going to trigger the overwatch and the enemy may end up having a unit who is not being overwatched and interrupt your unit. either way, if you're going to overwatch, it should be because thats your last action as a team.
I get your point, but triggering overwatches as described in the video does have a use case. Overwatch is based on you predicting where the enemy might go, and if you're correct, you damage them. But you might not be correct. So forcing an enemy unit to take damage from your overwatch, thus weakening their squad for their turn, could make sense. I had to think about this for a bit so perhaps I have missed something?
The last tip isnt quite right. Just dismissing potential recruits takes their equipment from them and puts it in your pool, so you dont need to mess around recruiting then deleting :)
I never could defeat the final boss. And I think it was the first time in all my years of gaming where I just had to give on the final boss. It was so frustrating any annoying. They kept sending in reinforcements. Obviously I now hate this game. And would never play a Gears Tactics 2. The whole game was so good until the final boss.
sadly, nothing in here I didnt already know myself, especially the intimidate + overwatch skill helped me out alot because many of my units had "patrol" as an ability on their weapon anyway which made it even more useful to use overwatch instead of standart shots (btw, this way you can get around the "stuck to overwatch" because if they return to their cover when all overwatch shots are gone they will get regular moves when you execute [which I did use alot with the kills I got wrong those overwatch shots on my turn])

I thought it was just an Xcom clone, however it has unique mechanics of its own. I'm genuinely interested now.

My best tip would be damaging brutes until they beserk which will allow you to easily kill them with a bayonet charge or chainsaw

Stim grenades can HEAL enemy, you will get an achievement.
