but why didn't people who hated the voice take away that they could tune it to be any voice they want and any attitude they want. We can all have Jarvis, Teddy from the movie A.I, HER or listening to the robot impression it does. Glados! This is just beyond fun for me, I can't wait. I get why they showed the voice being flirty, laughing and such because they wanted to demo this voice understands emotion and can convey emotion. That's hard to do in a few minute demo that reaches everyone. So I take nothing from the demo about what the final service will be. Just that we have a range of options like we've never had before.
There are going to be some very funny sexy female voices getting turned into the exact opposite by angry wives and girlfriends and the opposite for angry husbands and boyfriends. But I live on my own so I'm getting the voice I want and it will not be HER. I like the pushback/joke/insults that Jarvis can bring but we didn't see how well the A.I can do that. I suspect we'll have to have these voices dialed down and perhaps people will bring out packs we can apply prompt preferences to get certain characters/voices. OpenAI has full API access so third parties can go wild with this.

I'm an introvert too and I have tried talking to GPT and it's great. But, it's pointless. you're talking to a robot which isn't getting anywhere and over time, it'll just make you feel alone for sure.

Conversation and interaction is going to be an inevitable part of AI. You can do it right, but it’s still going to happen and trying to ignore it is unrealistic.
Making it say"um" and "haa" is pointless and a waste a processor time and memory.
I would like Siri to be able to work across multiple apps to accomplish a task or create a new shortcut by requesting an action verbally. For example,
“hey siri, change my wallpaper to a new photo collage of my wife.”
“Hey siri, when I connect to this speaker, start playing my radio station from now on.”
“Hey siri, make a widget showing how much money I have spent on fast food each month on my Home Screen.”
“Hey Siri, can you quiz me on the pdf I read yesterday to make sure I understand the main points?”

Part of the demo was them asking the ai to be more emotional. If you don’t like the voice’s inflection, ask it to sound robotic. It’s almost as if the scriptwriter here didn’t watch the entirety of both keynotes.

Disagree. Filler words are a crucial part of our language, and just as they allow us time to think of the next word, they allow LLMs like GTP and Gemini to answer without waiting for the whole answer to generate and then say it all in one go, which would be more annoying.
Like it or not, a lot of people are going to want their voice assistant to have some personality (or maybe even a lot of personality). I think a totally reasonable middle ground would be to give the users control over that aspect. I think some already do.
ChatGPT also has multiple mens and androgynous voices, saying that the 'flirty bimbo' is the AI we're all getting is wildly incorrect

Look, as much as I respect people whose opinions are it’s creepy to have AI sound human, it has to happen eventually, simply because especially if we’re gonna put these things in robot bodies and be in the workforce, like how annoying would it be if every single one of your coworkers never engaged in small talk, never cracked jokes, and always remained dull, doesn’t sound very fun to me

I did only one thing with Siri and that to create a remind via typing to Siri e.g. "Remind to print docs when I get back home" and then I use to type "Bye" to close the Siri prompt. Now, if I type "Bye" after setting a reminder, it deletes it. It's my old habit and I keep forgetting to not type "Bye" but "ok". Anyways, it's annoying...
After watching a number of sci-fi shows I have to say the AI I found I love the most was the one on Rocinante on The Expanse. You say what you wanted and the ship did it.
A bit ranty… you can tone down the flirtatiousness, just ask the AI to tone it down. You can also change the voice. They made it so you can customize it to your taste. The point was to showcase that AI can be conversational.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with Google’s approach to a voice assistant. First of all, she seems friendly. And secondly, if you want people to stop fearing the mindless AI apocalypse, that’s exactly what you need to be doing. What a big deal about nothing.
I agree with your assessment here. Maybe Apple will allow you to pick the type of person you want to listen to at the very least. If I want a "No Nonsense buisness person, male or female" I can choose that. I also think it should be "Subject sensitive" - If I want an esplaination on how to repair a TV I sure don't want a chatty Kathy. If I want to know how to tell a funny joke, I expect to get a comedian to show me. The Ai should figure out what the subject matter is. I should be able to set Seri up the way I want. That way no one will get a voice they don't want to here. However, the last voice I want to hear is the emulation of my Mother in law...lol
