• Eric Johnson - Rock Me...
I consider Eric the “finest” guitarist on the planet - just seems the best way to describe him. And he’s great about giving the other instruments space and allowing them to shine, too.
I listen to a lot of dark heavy music, but I always have a place in my heart of Johnson's music cause I find it so calming and uplifting, and the guitar playing is so impressive too. His music reminds me of a video montage of driving at night in the rain in an 80's movie... not sure why my mind goes there, but it does. (Edit: FYI, I made this comment halfway through the video before you mentioned that this reminded you of driving through the dessert or at night, that is should be in a movie...).
Glad you reacted to this! It's one of my favorite Eric performances because of how well the solos are crafted. The studio version of this is on Eric's album Collage.
This is an old BB King song. Check out the version on the 1968 Jeff Beck Group album Truth, where he calls his version "Rock My Plimsoul". He added a pretty catchy riff. Robin Trower does a good version too.
Eric uses Marshall Fender and Peavey amps which he switchs to give different tones

Yes that is Roscoe Beck, he is a texas badass with soul.
Yes it is Roscoe Beck. I saw Roscoe with Eric many times, and then he went on to play bass for the Dixie Chicks for many years. The last time I saw Eric right before the pandemic was in January 2020, and Roscoe Beck was with him again.

Pat Travers' version of this is my personal favorite...from the "Crash and Burn" LP (an outstanding album by the way). Ya'll would dig the song "Crash and Burn," and "Snortin Whiskey and Drinkin Cocaine." Great stuff...
Eric is a master! Its an old blues tune made popular by BB King. Check out Hendrix's version at Monterey Pop. Omg he smokes. Have you reacted to Eric Johnson's live version of Cliffs of Dover? That's in my top 10 all time guitar performances. Curt G?? Edit: just saw it, never mind!
