  • CLIVE, DANNY AND THEIR BAND OF MERRY MEN GET READY FOR A LARGER-THAN-LIFE PANTOMIME ADVENTURE!
A new legend will be born at Newcastle Theatre Royal this Christmas with the arrival of the spectacular 2010 pantomime Robin Hood the Pantomime Adventure (30 November '10 -- 15 January '11) -- a sheriff-busting, arrow-shooting, tights-wearing, hog-roasting extravaganza of pantomime fun, set to be bigger and more colourful than any panto before it!
Coronation Street star Tupele Dorgu, who played Kelly Crabtree in the popular soap will star as the alluring Sorceress, accompanied by the heroes of pantomime themselves multi-award-winning duo Danny Adams and Clive Webb, who are back due to overwhelming public demand and playing Robin Hood and Friar Tuck respectively.
Lancashire-born Tupele (33) rose to fame playing the role of brash and bolshie seamstress Kelly Crabtree in Coronation Street, and has also had roles in Loose Women, Casualty and Merseybeat. She left Coronation Street in March this year after six years in order to return to her first love, the stage. She has performed in many musicals including the West End Production of Mamma Mia.
Tupele, Clive and Danny will be joined by panto villain extraordinaire Steve Arnott as The Sheriff and another ex-Coronation Street star, Phil Corbitt as The Henchman, who hails from Cullercoats and has a wealth of experience on screen and national stage.
No Theatre Royal panto would be complete without Newcastle's own legendary and beautifully attired panto dame Chris Hayward who will delight audiences once again in his 26th panto appearance, this time in the role of Nurse Rita. Also back again following his hugely successful stage debut last year is Churchill, the famous nodding dog from the TV commercials.
The show will feature brand-new, amazing 3D technology, and as well as other special effects audiences can expect a close encounter with an incredible flying dragon!
Produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world's largest pantomime producer, Robin Hood - the Pantomime Adventure is staged by the same team that has presented the last six record-breaking pantomimes at Newcastle Theatre Royal.
As the Sunderland Empire has cancelled its panto this year, Theatre Royal is set to consolidate its position as home to the biggest panto in the North East. Over 52,000 tickets have now been sold (a ten per cent increase on Cinderella at the same point last year) and it is on target to retain its crown as the fastest selling pantomime in the UK.
This will be the sixth Theatre Royal pantomime written and produced by Wallsend-born West End producer Michael Harrison, following hot on the heels of last year's record-breaking pantomime Cinderella, which was the fastest selling pantomime in Theatre Royal history and infact in the whole country, and opened its seven week run with sales in excess of £1 million.
Michael most recently made news in the city with his sensational production of the hit musical Chess, choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood, which premièred at the Theatre Royal in August and received rave reviews.
Michael, who is Managing Director of Qdos Pantomimes, said:
"We are thrilled to be back in Newcastle with another exceptional cast, featuring names both familiar and new. We are delighted to welcome Tupele, who will make a fantastic and very charismatic Sorceress opposite the slapstick antics of Clive and Danny. With 3D back this year too, Robin Hood is set to be another unmissable Theatre Royal pantomime and is on target to be the most successful pantomime ever staged at the Theatre!"
Tupele said: "I'm really excited to be joining the Theatre Royal pantomime this year -- it's a great role in a show which is now fully established as among the best pantos in the country. I can't wait to begin rehearsals!"
Robin Hood -- the Pantomime Adventure appears at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 30 November 2010 - Saturday 15 January 2011. Tickets are priced at £10.00 - £27.00 and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 11 21 21 or select your own seat and book online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk.
