    Stock was badass, FBO even better, FBO + bigger turbo changed my life, and tomorrow I’ll be dropping her off to get my motor built. For those Mazdaspeed3/MPS owners: keep to it because it only gets funner.

    Running mine full stock. just replaced vvt as a whole kit with new timing chain,gears and guides just to play it safe. vvt was maxed out when opened up.Timing chain ticking made my ear say time to do some preventative work... purrs like brand new now. Listen to your motor!

    Excellent video, really stepping up your content! Interesting video concept and well executed.
    Also minor thing from an armchair casual video editor, maybe add a de-crecendo or like a volume gradient to the music when you are jumping to a different scene for a smoother transition.

    So i got 2 speeds, gen1 tuned by previous owner and stock gen2.
    Gen1 - 335hp
    Gen2 - 260hp
    Both on the same dyno.
    Gen1 - runs on pilot sports 4 - lets say i need to replace them next season
    Gen2 - runs on dunlop maxx - brand new this season
    I done some tests with draggy, done some streetracing and a lot, a lot of track days.
    Gen1 is faster 100-200kmh - 4 to 5 seconds but those are not the condition i drive em.
    0-60mph Gen2 is faster 0.5sec avarage but sometimes even more then 1 second as gen1 fights for traction a lot :)
    Now i got the limiter taken off in gen1 for 1st and 2ng gear which is for me personally a fail.
    When it comes to track days, with that limiter off i need to operate the gas pedal with prescision which i dont like.
    As if i push it too hard, the car start burning the tires and big understeer.
    In Gen2 i can WOT at every corner and still have control over the car. Its hard to explain but i dont like driving the tuned speed3.
    I got some struts, coils, its full exhaust, brakes, mounts, bigger IC, bpv, fuel pump, bigger turbo and a safe program to run on.
    As a daily its too hard, too loud and in traffic cannot do WOT's as car is so loud and burns rubber :)
    As a drag car its too slow for nowadays, it was never a good sprinter due to fwd but at higher speeds its still slow compared to tuned 2.0tsi from VAG, which are all runing 400hp with fast DSG. No point in trying to match em. Also its an FWD car there is no point for more power, its getting wasted (unless u go above 60mph)
    On a track day... i mean not only its has this understeer tendency but also always something fails after hardcore driving.
    Something leaks, some plastic things fall off, some sensor dies etc. Always something with this car.
    So its sits mostly in the garage and i plan to return it to stock one day.
    That leaves me to the conclusion that : Mazdaspeed3 stock is better then tuned one.
    What i have done to GEN2 in terms of modifying it is :
    - bigger IC
    - engine mounts
    - strut bars
    - sport brakes
    - catback exhaust
    So basically a stock car, it runs on stock program.
    Its a good daily, it sounds good but is not loud. Whole city dosnt have to know im coming :)
    Its idiot proof very fun car to drive, you can always save yourself if your know what ur doing. I got stock turbo and i tell you this, its better. Now when i see bigger turbo plus fmic i can only feel how shity this car has to be. The lag on it must be crazy, im already complaining on bigger turbo lag and i got just upgraded tmic in the gen1. Cannot even imagine putting fmic on this one and going to my track which is very technical, not so many long runs, mostly fast corners 2nd/3rd gear.
    I did a full trackday with GEN2 in big heat, just changed the fluids and tires and its good to go cannot say that about the tuned one, always something.
    Also keep in mind that tuning is a waste of money, you will only decrease the value of the car.
    I cannot imagine buying your car with the front bumper cut in half for some cheap fake carbon chinesee BS that dosnt work for any purpose but "good looks" i mean if you dont like the car that your turning it into modern Civic typerR with all those spoilers on top of spoilers, why not get the Typer in the first place? :D
    Keep it stock

    • @Rastamanjungle
      @Rastamanjungle Před 3 lety

      btw. this sunday track day i was sluaghtered by toyota yaris GR and Honda TypeR the previous one with some minor addons
      The moment you switch from MS3 to one of those, you can feel that MS3 is a compromise. Its a daily car with some front wheel power and eazy to drive (when you install strut bar engine mount etc in MS3 it starts to oversteer at higher speeds during cornering - very easy to control by the gas pedal alone)
      But when you switch you can sense that Toyota and Honda are sports car, more refined no metter how much tuning you do it will never by a sports car.
      Honda is undrivable for me as a daily its too hard
      Toyota is undrivable for me as a daily its too small
      If id be into tuning i would pick a better car with potential : RWD or AWD, in FWD is just a waste of cash.
      You will grown into this at the moment you switch cars to something with RWD or AWD.

    • @Rastamanjungle
      @Rastamanjungle Před 3 lety

      When timing my MS3 gen1 and gen2 on the track i got better time in the GEN2 as i have driven it so long its like part of me on the track.
      Now with the Gen1 which is tuned, i drive it and when i feel like i feel it now to do the timeattack, it fookin does fail on me.
      Last time the power steering fluid just died on me. So i dont have a good time for gen1 on the track, but from driving it i dont like it :)
      Too laggy too much power going to waste :)
      Cheers got some free time killing it on ur videos thumbs up

    • @jonathankendall4865
      @jonathankendall4865 Před 3 lety

      Wont be much help because I've only had mine for 2 months. I purchased with 209k which I thought was really risky. So far I've had no issues besides buying and installing the stock OEM sway bar, because first owner had an aftermarket one that didnt fit properly and wore out bushings (overall $300 fix). I absolutely love it and have no regrets buying it. But I'll say be super careful to do the research on the condition & prior owners. Mine was only 1 owner who kept it garage kept and basically babied it. (That said he did have it tuned and reverted back to stock before selling. But even with the prior mods I have had no issues as a result). 300k is really high, I would only suggest if it was kept immaculate and you intend on keeping every piece of maintenance up to date. Even still you may run into larger repairs/replacements like clutch or turbo replacement. I'd say hold off until you can find one closer to 200k or below. But they're super rare so I wish you luck!

I did 8 or 10 launches in my and connecting rod went flying. This is a good engine but needs a lot of love.
