Sydney Harbour Kingfish nearly snapped my rod!

  • In this episode, I head down to a local Sydney Harbour pier to do get amongst the start of season Yellowtail Kingfish action. During the start of season the Kingfish tend to be a lot larger in size however they are less numbers and are generally more fussy eaters whilst holding deeper in the water column through most of the day. The footage was compiled through 2 morning sessions a week apart. Fishing time was approximately 2.5 hours each morning. I have also found some old footage from last season which I added in the end for some bonus material. Hope you enjoy! P.S. How did grandma go hooking up to that BIG Kingfish?

    Hey Mick, long time Sydney fisho but have never targeted kingies. What rod do you recommend for this kind of fishing? I noticed there is a big distance between the water and the pier so Im looking for a good casting rod with decent casting for metals, seems like you a telescopic net is a must at that location?
    Edit: i noticed most guys bait fish here

    • @FishingwithMarkiMark
      @FishingwithMarkiMark  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey mate, my apologies. CZcams put this in the "held for review" thinking it was spam. Really depends on the location but for Sydney Wharf/Piers need something 9"6-10" so you can pump up the fish and get them on surface before they get to the pylons underneath. Something PE5-6 (50-60lb) will be able to deadlift the fish up onto the wharf anything under the 95cm mark, anything bigger can use a Pier Landing net from Hookem, or we sometimes walk them to the steps and get a buddy to go down and grab the fish. Hope that helps.

      Sure will mate, that's perfect. Always recommend a 8"-10" rod off the piers, much easier to pump/wind the fish and keep him away from the pylons. The shorter rods, bring them right to the pylons :(

It's very situational also - I can catch kings off my beach on bream gear, but my luck would decrease off the wharfs of sydney etc. give me some more info my bro and happy to help you out :)
