- Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday welcomed African leaders who arrived in St Petersburg for a Russia-Africa forum, as the Kremlin seeks more allies amid the special military operation in Ukraine.
Putin has billed the two-day summit as a major event that would help bolster ties with a continent of 1.3 billion people that is increasingly assertive on the global stage.
It’s the second Russia-Africa summit since 2019.

Russian politicians and diplomats don't often speak foreign languages in official events (it's considered to be a slight violation of diplomatic protocol and a bit disrespectful towards interpreters), except in special cases or less formal/public surroundings.
